Title: GTA 6 Is Completely Changing How You Steal Cars Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 21:00:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-how-to-steal-cars/ Carjacking in Grand Theft Auto games has been, as the title denotes, a staple of the series. Up until now, it's largely been the same. While there have been more details and animations added over the years, the premise has remained that you'll walk up to a car, press Y or Triangle, throw the driver out, get in and drive away. If the car was parked, you'd execute the same button press to smash the window and steal it. With GTA 6, carjacking is getting a complete overhaul. Here, we've got all of the information we know so far on how to steal cars in GTA 6. There are two ways to steal a car: taking one that's stationary, or taking one that someone's driving around in. However, there are more details that make GTA 6 feel more like true simulation gameplay now. How to steal a parked car As we saw in the GTA 6 extended look gameplay, when Jason approached a car, he had multiple options to choose from. The first option is a slim jim--a classic tool used to break into older vehicles. It slides down the window frame to adjust the lock, and in GTA 6, it seems like this is done via a lockpicking minigame. However, based on what we've heard so far, that won't work for every car. Depending on the year and model of the vehicle, you might not be able to use a slim jim. However, newer and more expensive cars might not work with this method. On top of that, there are trackers, meaning that the police can track your location when you steal a car. This changes the whole carjacking aspect of Grand Theft Auto. Normally, if you'd steal a car, you might catch some heat; maybe a nearby police officer sees you and follows you, but it's pretty easy to get away cleanly. This time, that isn't the case. If you do want to get away cleanly, you need an item to disable the tracking device. It seems like that item, along with the slim jim, is not something you start out with, meaning you'll need to progress through the story or complete side objectives to obtain them. Another interesting thing about the tracker is that apparently if you drive fast enough, the cops won't be able to track you. That adds an extra element of tension, because if you slow down and try to play it safe, they'll know exactly where you are and you'll need to get moving right away. Stealing cars isn't as straightforward as it used to be. How to steal occupied vehicles In some cases, driven vehicles aren't locked, so you'll be able to just walk up and open the door. It seems like there's a quick time minigame to complete, which will wrestle the driver out of the car, and then you can drive away. If there is a passenger, they will also try to prevent you from stealing the car. However, just because you steal a car doesn't mean the cops can't track you--the tracker is still there and you will need to find a way to disable it. Vehicle security and impound lots How do you know what kind of security a given car on the street has? The app Waink allows you to scan vehicles, and it'll tell you the security systems on board as well as how much it'll cost to register it as your own vehicle. One other interesting detail about registered vehicles that was in one of TGG's videos is that if you ditch one of your own cars while you are wanted, the police will set up a perimeter around your car so that if you return to it, in theory, they will be waiting for you. If you wait too long, they will impound it. This leads to some interesting gameplay implications. Perhaps you'll have to sneak into the impound lot to retrieve it, or if you have the money, you could show up and pay the fee before driving off. There's certainly something deeper going on with the Grand Theft Auto mechanics we've known for years. Supposedly, when you start the game you won't have access to a lot of these tools. You won't be able to instantly steal cars; you'll have to progress to that point. It seems like better vehicles will slowly be introduced throughout the game. You'll have to pre-plan your robberies a little more. If you want better vehicles, you'll have to work for them, whether that's through stealing or more legitimate means. This also leads to interesting repercussions when it comes to robberies and other activities. You'll want a fast getaway car--previously, you could just acquire the nearest suitable one, but in GTA 6 you'll have to plan ahead. If a nearby car is parked, you might not have the equipment to stealthily steal it. Even if you do, maybe you don't have the gear to remove the tracker, which will bring more heat on you. This means that robberies need to be pre-planned. Perhaps Jason or Lucia will be on watch with a vehicle, so the other character can run out, hop in, and drive away. Maybe you'll choose a vehicle as your getaway car early on, steal it, park it nearby, and then complete the robbery knowing you have a method of escape. GTA 6 is bringing about many more changes for the series. While many thought Jason and Lucia would be in a romantic relationship, it turns out that's not actually necessary. The game has also removed the need to button mash to sprint--something I've been desperate for.

Title: I’m Begging You To Stop Obsessing Over Player Numbers And Just Enjoy Games Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 20:53:08 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/im-begging-you-to-stop-obsessing-over-player-numbers-and-just-enjoy-games/ Horror fans are confused. Every time a licensed multiplayer horror game gets brought up, two things tend to happen: commenters wonder if it can dethrone Dead by Daylight, and they speculate that the game will shut down quickly. It's happening again today, as I've recently published my Halloween review. Comments on YouTube and in Discord servers are already repeating the sentiments I've seen for many years now. "Probably be dead in six months to a year because no one can live aside DBD." "It will be dead within a month like the rest." "The real question is, will it go the way of Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, and Texas Chain Saw, and not touch Dead by Daylight?" I view this response as a kind of mass hallucination. This obsession over a game's health and future prospects is a widespread problem in a number of genres right now, but it's been especially irksome in the multiplayer horror space, where people rely on points that may feel true but don't prove accurate upon closer inspection. I've played nearly every licensed multiplayer horror game, like those named above and others, like Killer Klowns and Predator: Hunting Grounds. For the past decade, Hollywood licensors have been increasingly interested in adapting their intellectual properties to games, and with each new one revealed, there's an expectation among players and onlookers that they will die off, failing to topple the titan of the genre, Dead by Daylight. It's true that Dead by Daylight remains in a league of its own in terms of its community size. What I find absurd, though, is that these other games are seeking to usurp Behaviour Interactive's decade-long success story. Not one of these games seems to have aspirations or expectations of replacing DBD. Ultimately, they're very different things, and these other adaptations are only looking to earn their place alongside DBD. Halloween is the latest multiplayer horror game to be held up to the unfair DBD standard. In some important ways, Dead by Daylight is closer to Fortnite than it is Friday the 13th or Halloween. To date, DBD has brought more than 40 killers, many of them from licensed horror movies and shows, to its one-size-fits-all framework. Except in cases of limited-time modes, DBD is always about four players sneaking around dozens of different maps, repairing generators, avoiding being hooked, and escaping off the map before the killer ends them. It's a fun game I literally play every night, but it doesn't offer a bespoke experience. Whether you're playing as Ghostface, Leatherface, Pinhead, or Chucky, your job is to prevent survivors from fixing generators and opening the exit doors.  It makes for a great, highly competitive gameplay loop, but it doesn't make sense in any of these killers' original universes. Freddy Krueger is obsessed with invading the dreams of Springwood kids. Outside of DBD, he's never been seen guarding generators to prevent Steve from Stranger Things and Detective Tapp from Saw from powering the exit doors. Again, it's a wonderful game, but the thing it lacks most is authenticity for any one slasher or other horror franchise. It's never the point for games like Texas Chain Saw Massacre to try and take the crown from DBD. What these other games want to do is capture the spirit of their source material. That's a goal that can, and does, coexist with DBD quite peacefully. It's true that some players who enjoy games like this only have enough time in a day to play one, and maybe on many days for many players, that's DBD. But so far, hardly any of the other licensed asymmetrical multiplayer horror games have had grand designs as live-service games. They get cosmetics and updates, sure, but most don't include things like daily or weekly check-in incentives, and when they have, they're more lax than DBD's full suite of live-service mechanics. They don't want to be your forever-game the way DBD does. They're different tastes, and I love the variety they collectively offer. As prevalent and wrong-headed as that "DBD killer" narrative is, it's really secondary to the "dead game" narrative. Players like to predict that each one of these new licensed horror games will die off quickly, "like the rest," they say. But the truth is, history isn't on these doomsayers' side. Games like Texas Chain Saw Massacre don't try to beat DBD; they just want to live alongside it. Friday the 13th died because of a legal drama that saw its rights change hands, and any ongoing deals based on it, such as IllFonic and Gun's multiplayer game, were forced to end. Suffice it to say, though this could happen again in theory, it would seem to be a rare case, perhaps never to be repeated. If that legal battle had never happened, I expect Jason would still be alive today. In nearly every other case, games of this sort are doing fine. Not everything has to be the biggest game in the world. I worry players have become so obsessed with Steam player counts that they've stood in the way of their own fun. You can hop into a round of Killer Klowns, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, or Predator right now. While some are no longer adding new content, they're all in good shape, and I still enjoy rotating through them regularly.  Players especially like to call out Texas Chain Saw Massacre as some sort of cautionary tale, saying that the developers failed to deliver on content promises, even though all they ever promised was to support the game with new updates as long as it made financial sense for the studios involved. That lasted about two years, which seems fine to me. If I paid $30 for a game and had a blast for two years, I'd call that getting my money's worth.  The pushback against that seems born from the idea that every multiplayer game must now be both massive and ever-changing. Can't games just be fun for a while anymore? I don't want to see them go offline; don't get me wrong. But so long as they stay playable, why must they keep offering new things to do? It's like regular players now take their cues from the venture capitalists infecting every fandom with never-ending expectations to grow and prosper more than they did last week, last month, last year. It makes me want to scream: We have a bunch of fun video games based on some of the best horror movies ever made!  I do admit, not every example supports my argument. I know of two horror games that went offline and were delisted: Evil Dead and Puppet Master. In the case of the former, I'd only note that I found it to be the least enjoyable of all those I've played. That doesn't mean I wanted it to be delisted, and the teams behind that decision, Saber and Boss Team, deserve criticism for taking it away like that.  Evil Dead is a rare example of a multiplayer horror game closing down unceremoniously. As for Puppet Master, I almost have to excuse that one. I'm neck-deep in this genre, and I nearly never knew it existed, only spotting it on Steam a short while before it got taken down. It seems it wasn't even on the map of players like me. I certainly wish I got to play it, and that others could do so whenever they wanted to, but to me these are exceptions to the rule.  On the whole, horror multiplayer games are doing well. It feels like we've hardly scratched the surface of what other games can spring up from this trend--please, somebody make my Scream game with social deduction, whodunnit leanings. For now, Halloween is the latest of them, and yet another really fun one. I wish horror fans could experience these for what they are, rather than fold each of them into a bigger conversation about their financial prospects. I am literally Michael Myers, and I'm having a great time. That alone is worth celebrating.
Title: Where To Find Lacra In The Blood Of Dawnwalker Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 20:30:59 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/where-to-find-lacra-in-the-blood-of-dawnwalker/ Are you looking for Lacra in The Blood of Dawnwalker? This fiendish vrakhiri--a potentially romanceable character at that--has been stalking her prey all over Vale Sangora. If you know the right people to ask, you might just learn of her whereabouts. A Friend Like This - Where to find Lacra in Svartrau City The quest where you find Lacra in The Blood of Dawnwalker is called A Friend Like This. It’s not available right from the get-go. Instead, you have to put in a bit of effort by heading to Svartrau City. There, you’ll meet a benign vrakhiri named Vicho, who wants your help in solving a murder. You can learn about the details in our A Study in Crimson guide. After killing Doctor Simeon, Vicho will mention another vampire that’s roaming around the capital. A map showing the locations that you need to investigate. From the streets to the rooftops If you check the journal entry for A Friend Like This, you’ll see that there are three spots in the northern part of the city that you need to check. Walk along the streets near the city’s gates and activate Focus Mode. You’ll see glowing objects, such as blood spatters, destroyed barrels, and fallen tiles. Keep following your lead until you spot roof tiles that have been damaged. If it’s nighttime/you’re in vampire form, simply Shadowstep/Planeshift onto the roof. Traverse the buildings, all while using your Focus ability to search for more tiles. Eventually, you’ll reach a small house in a walled-off section of the city. Follow the clues (left) until you reach Lacra's hideout (right). Lacra boss fight Your first meeting with Lacra in The Blood of Dawnwalker is actually a boss battle. Once you step inside the building, you’ll have a short conversation with Lacra, before she turns hostile. Be careful when fighting her since she has quick strikes with her claws. She can also transform into a wolf, leaping at you for a deadly bite. Note: If you attempt to use Voracious Bite on Lacra, she’ll just elbow you in the face. You have to use other vampiric healing methods to stay alive. Lacra will shred you with her sharp claws. The uriashi interrogation After the bout, talk to Lacra once more until she addresses the uriashi in the room. You can spare the poor fella if you’d like: “Gladly, but we’ll actually talk.” “What happened? Tell me your side of the story.” “You have my word.” “I promise.” “You’re not killing him.” Talk to Lacra for the next part of her quest arc. This concludes The Blood of Dawnwalker A Friend Like This quest. After this part, you’ll be able to travel to the hidden uriash village to the southwest. We discuss it in our Song of the Mountain guide. Oh, and don’t forget that Coen can romance Lacra as well.

Title: GeForce NOW Gives Gamers More Ways to Play at Gamescom 2026 Date: Thu, 27 Aug 2026 13:00:33 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-gamescom-2026/ NVIDIA’s Gamescom announcements are revealing what’s next for GeForce NOW, with new ways to play, more supported devices and platforms, and even more big PC games headed to the cloud. New NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 technology controls give members more ways to fine-tune gameplay, while expanded support for new Steam devices, GOG single sign-on, Firefox browser support and more Amazon Fire TV devices continue broadening where and how GeForce RTX-powered PC gaming can be enjoyed. Gamescom is also bringing a blockbuster lineup of PC games to GeForce NOW. CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, The Blood of Dawnwalker and STAR WARS Zero Company are all coming to the cloud at launch.  For a limited time, members can also get CONTROL Resonant with the purchase of a 12-month GeForce NOW Ultimate membership. The Gamescom extras don’t stop there. To celebrate, GeForce NOW is giving away more than 40 prizes in our Community Giveaway — including gaming hardware and GeForce NOW Ultimate memberships. There’s even more fun to come. Check out the list of 13 games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. Next-Level Cloud Gaming More ways to choose how to play. This fall, GeForce NOW is introducing new NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 controls in the cloud, giving Ultimate members more choice over how supported games look and perform, even without the latest hardware. Powered by NVIDIA RTX graphics, each control offers something different: DLSS Super Resolution sharpens image quality, while Dynamic Frame Generation delivers lower latency and stutter for smoother streaming, and Ray Reconstruction enhances ray-traced visuals. Together, these technologies make it easier to tune supported games for image quality, responsiveness or a preferred balance between the two.  Stay tuned to GFN Thursdays for details about best practices for enabling DLSS 4.5 overrides and how Dynamic Frame Generation can help Ultimate members enable more graphic settings while still getting smooth streaming. Stream full steam ahead with the Steam ecosystem. GeForce NOW is also adding community-requested support for Steam Machine with Steam Controller later this fall, and later for Windows and macOS, delivering more ways to play and making it even easier for longtime Steam players to jump into the cloud using familiar hardware. The additions build on existing Steam Deck support and expand compatibility across the Steam ecosystem. Get your GOG on with one click into the library. Launching GOG games just got even easier. With GOG single sign-on now available on GeForce NOW, members can securely link their account once, automatically sync supported games and launch them without having to sign in to GOG again — all with a single click. With fewer steps between opening the app, skipping any downloads and jumping into gameplay, it’s another way GeForce NOW continues streamlining access to PC gaming libraries, making it easier to play the GOG library of games on TV platforms since gamers are automatically logged into their GOG accounts. Find popular titles, like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, in the app in the dedicated GOG row. Or search and filter for GOG games, then jump into supported titles from almost anywhere — all streamed from the cloud. Check back on GFN Thursdays for the latest games joining the GeForce NOW library, including newly supported games streaming from GOG. Outfox nearly any device with GeForce RTX gaming. Plus, GeForce NOW is now officially supported on Firefox, expanding browser access across all major Windows browsers. Members can jump into supported PC games directly from Firefox without downloading a dedicated app. Ultimate members can enjoy GeForce RTX-powered gaming at up to 1440p and 120 frames per second. Simply download the latest version of Firefox and visit play.geforcenow.com to get started. The cloud handles downloads, installs and updates, keeping local storage free while games stay ready to play in the cloud.  Bring the fire to living rooms with GeForce NOW. GeForce NOW is expanding support to additional Amazon Fire TV devices. GeForce NOW first launched on Fire TV devices earlier this year, and will soon expand to the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, a 4K streaming stick that’s ready to game right out of the box. Streaming from the cloud means supported PC games are ready to play using a compatible controller, making it easy to enjoy GeForce NOW on the biggest screen in the house with even more options to play from the comfort of the couch.  And that’s not all the awesomeness from Amazon. Later this year, Fire TV users will be able to purchase GeForce NOW memberships directly through Amazon, creating a more seamless path from device setup to gameplay. These new features will arrive alongside some of the biggest games coming to the cloud throughout the year. Get Ready for Launch Five newly announced and highly anticipated games are coming to GeForce NOW at launch: CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, The Blood of Dawnwalker and STAR WARS Zero Company.  Better yet, members can lock in one of them early: For a limited time, purchase a 12-month GeForce NOW Ultimate membership and receive CONTROL Resonant at launch at no additional cost, and be first to experience Faden’s next chapter. The offer is available Tuesday, Aug. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27. Ultimate members can stream the full lineup with GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud, including NVIDIA DLSS 4, ray tracing, NVIDIA Reflex and Cinematic Quality Streaming technologies, with up to 5K high dynamic range on supported devices.  Whether diving into new worlds or returning to iconic franchises, GeForce NOW lets members skip expensive hardware upgrades, massive installs and storage management so they can jump straight into the action the moment each game launches. Title: Leading Publishers Bring Blockbuster PC Games and Technology to NVIDIA RTX Spark Date: Tue, 25 Aug 2026 15:30:48 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/gamescom-rtx-spark-pc-games-technology/ NVIDIA is bringing the next wave of RTX gaming to the Gamescom conference running this week in Cologne, Germany, with support for new games, anti-cheat technologies and increased visual quality.  Electronic Arts, Embark and Ubisoft are among the latest game publishers and developers bringing their blockbuster titles to NVIDIA RTX Spark ahead of its launch this fall. They join the publishers that announced RTX Spark support at COMPUTEX in May, including KRAFTON, NetEase, Riot Games and XBOX.  NVIDIA is working closely with game developers and ecosystem partners to ensure today’s top PC games — including EA’s EA SPORTS F1 25 and Apex Legends, Ubisoft’s Anno 117: Pax Romana and Embark Studios’ ARC Raiders and THE FINALS — run seamlessly on RTX Spark devices. “We’re excited to bring Anno 117: Pax Romana to a new generation of RTX-powered PCs,” said Stéphane Jankowski, Ubisoft executive producer of Anno 117 : Pax Romana. “Our teams build the game to be seen wide: full districts, long sightlines, thousands of details at once. Seeing RTX Spark hold that level of fidelity from a single chip is genuinely impressive.” RTX Spark reinvents personal computing, bringing personal AI agents, advanced content creation and high-performance gaming together in a platform engineered from the ground up for the next wave of Windows PCs. For gamers, RTX Spark combines Windows devices with NVIDIA RTX technologies, including DLSS and Reflex.  Bringing Anti-Cheat to RTX Spark Supporting modern PC gaming goes beyond running the game itself. Many of today’s biggest online games rely on sophisticated anti-cheat technologies, to enable fair play across the multiple platforms these games run on.   NVIDIA has been working with EA to bring native EA Javelin Anticheat support to RTX Spark, including for EA’s biggest multiplayer games, such as EA SPORTS F1 25. RTX Spark launches this fall.  RTX Delivers Next-Generation Gaming RTX Spark is just one part of NVIDIA’s lineup of gaming announcements at Gamescom, including: DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction is available now, featuring NVIDIA’s latest second-generation transformer model to deliver even higher image quality in ray- and path-traced content. It replaces traditional denoisers with an NVIDIA supercomputer-trained AI network to reconstruct higher-quality pixels in the parts of a ray-traced frame where rays were not sampled. Path tracing comes to CONTROL Resonant and 007 First Light to deliver new levels of visual fidelity.  NVIDIA ACE technologies are coming to Aniimo in early 2027, letting players naturally interact with their creatures. Gears of War: E-Day includes RTX Mega Geometry integration, advancing image quality on GeForce RTX GPUs, alongside ray tracing and DLSS 4.5. RTX Remix keeps remastering PC classics, with a major Painkiller RTX mod update available now and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind RTX coming soon. GeForce NOW gives members more ways to play with new DLSS 4.5 controls, expanded support for Steam Machine and other devices and platforms, plus blockbuster PC games including CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day and more coming to the cloud at launch. Title: Class Is in Session: GeForce NOW Levels Up Linux, Chromebooks and More Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 13:00:33 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-linux-native-app/ GeForce NOW is giving cloud gaming an extra-credit upgrade just in time for back-to-school season. The native Linux app for GeForce NOW is officially out of beta. GeForce NOW is also delivering new cloud optimizations that make Frame Generation feel even more responsive while streaming. On top of that, Performance members will see higher frame rates in demanding games thanks to a CPU performance adjustment.  Plus, learn how GeForce NOW can add high-performance GeForce RTX gaming to the Chromebooks students already rely on for school – and how eligible new owners can take advantage of Chromebook Fast Pass. It all adds up to more ways to move from assignments to adventures across nearly any device. The only homework left is to decide what to play. This week, nine new games join the GeForce NOW library. The Cloud Gets Extra Credit GeForce NOW keeps getting better. The native Linux app for GeForce NOW has officially graduated from beta. Built on months of community feedback, the release focuses on performance, stability and polish while continuing to support Ubuntu 24.04 and later. A new Flatpack repository makes getting started and receiving future updates even easier. Visit the download page for more information and instructions. The cloud handles the rendering, so Linux gamers can tap into the latest GeForce RTX performance while staying on their preferred setup — without local hardware upgrades, compatibility headaches or complicated workarounds. Smooth gameplay makes the grade. GeForce NOW has also optimized DLSS Frame Generation in the cloud, reducing latency and making games feel more responsive. The improvements are especially noticeable when streaming at 60 or 120 frames per second in 1440p and 4K, helping every mouse movement and camera pan feel more immediate. Performance members will also enjoy additional server software optimizations to improve frame rates in select CPU-intensive games, helping demanding titles run more smoothly while delivering an even better gameplay experience. The cloud-side upgrade happens automatically, with nothing for members to install or configure, and at no additional cost. From Class Mode to Game Mode Class dismissed. Game on. Chromebooks already in backpacks can double as a PC gaming powerhouse, with GeForce NOW giving everyday school setups extra credit.  Chromebooks handling lectures, group projects and browser tabs can transform into high-performance GeForce RTX gaming PCs in just a few clicks. When class is out, open a supported browser or app and stream more than 2,000 supported PC games from existing libraries, with the cloud handling the heavy lifting. The same flexibility extends to Macs, Surface devices, everyday laptops, Steam Deck and mobile devices. Plus, eligible new Chromebook and Chromebook+ owners can claim a year of GeForce NOW at no cost with Chromebook Fast Pass, with priority access and no ads.  Study. Stream PC games. Same device.  Ready for the Weekend Follow the chain of command, streaming from the cloud. Title: Rhapsody in Scarlet announced for PS5 Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 14:33:39 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/09/03/rhapsody-in-scarlet-announced-for-ps5/ We’re thrilled to have revealed Rhapsody in Scarlet, a brand-new action game for PlayStation 5, during today’s State of Play and State of Play Japan. Set in the jazz-filled streets of 1920s New York, Rhapsody in Scarlet is an action game where players can enjoy exhilarating combos by wielding magic and beasts. Behind the city’s dazzling skyscrapers and lively streets, an unseen conflict rages among those who practice magic in secret. Players take on the role of Ellie, a young magus who finds herself swept up in events that will shape her destiny. First, please take a look at the first trailer revealed during State of Play. Play Video Thrilling combo-driven Acation with magic and beasts Many action games nowadays focus on weapon-based close-quarters combat, but with Rhapsody in Scarlet, we wanted to create something different, allowing players to build highly customizable combos and harness the unique possibilities of magic. One of the defining features of Rhapsody in Scarlet is its dynamic action, which sees Ellie wield magic while commanding beast companions in battle. The stylish combat blends close- and long-range attacks, area-of-effect spells, and beast techniques into highly customizable combos. Finding combos that fit your playstyle and adapting them to different enemies and situations is one of the game’s core appeals. A story trailer that brings the story and characters into focus In addition to its exhilarating action, Rhapsody in Scarlet also places a strong emphasis on its story, woven together by a cast of distinctive characters. For more, please take a look at the story trailer revealed during State of Play Japan:  Play Video A Young Magus commanding beasts is drawn into the fate of the world The story is set in 1920s New York. Ellie, a young magus who has come to the city that never sleeps to pursue a career as a jazz singer, becomes entangled in the schemes of a mysterious mafia organization following a certain incident. There, she meets Ilya, leader of the Seekers, a magus organization. Though the two have completely opposite values and clash repeatedly, they gradually deepen their bond as they continue fighting together. Before long, they find themselves confronting a fate that threatens to shake the balance of the world. Ellie Myers Voiced by Cherami Leigh (English) / Akari Kito (Japanese) Our story’s protagonist, Ellie is a young magus who came to New York to pursue a career as a jazz singer. Fighting alongside her beast companion, Sköll, she channels the powers of beasts and magic to unleash combined attacks. Valuing freedom above all else, Ellie refuses to be bound by rules or authority. With her unconventional thinking and unwavering determination, she confronts a world-shaking conspiracy and the destiny that awaits her. Ilya Jones Voiced by Hannah Grace (English) / Saori Onishi (Japanese) The young leader of the Seekers, a magus organization, Ilya was raised under the tutelage of Harold, her father and the head of the Sorcellerie Quarter. An exceptionally talented magus, she possesses both remarkable skill and a strong sense of responsibility. Valuing order above all else, she frequently clashes with the free-spirited Ellie. However, through many battles they fight side by side, the two gradually come to understand one another. Jazz-filled 1920s New York In Rhapsody in Scarlet, we have worked to recreate the atmosphere of 1920s New York as much as possible, from its architecture and fashion to its cars and Prohibition-era speakeasies. The 1920s were a time of remarkable energy and change, marked by the rapid spread of automobiles and radios, as well as the growing presence of women in society. To faithfully recreate the vibrant atmosphere of New York during this era, we carried out on-site research and gathered a wide range of historical references. At the same time, we introduced fantasy elements such as Beasts, magic, and the magical district they inhabit, creating a distinctive world where historical reality and fantasy come together as one. By incorporating jazz inspired by the sounds of the 1920s, we have also created a unique experience, where swing-filled sound and action come together as one. Wishlist starting today Exhilarating action powered by magic and beasts, a distinctive world set in 1920s New York, and a story centered on Ellie and Ilya await in Rhapsody in Scarlet. We will have more to share in the future, so please be sure to add the game to your wishlist and stay tuned for upcoming updates. The game will also be featured in Konami Press Start, a streaming program that will air on Konami’s official YouTube channel on September 3 at 8am PT / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST, September 4 at 12am JST , so be sure to check it out as well.
Title: Fate/Extra Record launches Jan 28 2027 on PS5 & PS4 Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 14:04:38 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/09/03/fate-extra-record-launches-jan-28-2027-on-ps5-ps4/ During today’s State of Play, we announced that Fate/Extra Record, developed by Type-Moon, will be releasing worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027! We know everyone’s been patiently waiting to learn more about this return to the Fate universe, so we’ve shared a thrilling new trailer jam-packed with the latest footage detailing this fresh telling of the “Moon Holy Grail War.” Play Video The Fate series began with Type-Moon’s PC game Fate/stay night, released in 2004. Since then, the franchise has expanded beyond games across a wide range of media, including manga adaptations, novelizations, and anime. At the heart of the series is a modern battle fantasy, where legendary heroes from the past, known as Servants, are summoned by Masters to fight for the Holy Grail, an all-powerful artifact said to grant any wish. Together, Masters and Servants enter a deadly conflict where they must battle until only one remains. As of August 2026, the Fate series spans more than 100 titles across games, anime, novels, manga, apps, and other media. Originally released in Japan in July 2010, Fate/Extra was the series’ first RPG. Fate/Extra Record revisits this pivotal entry in the Fate franchise, completely rebuilding it for modern platforms. Not only has the story been expanded, character graphics have been renewed, and the presentation has been updated for the modern era, but a new strategic deck-building Command Card battle system has been introduced to elevate the gameplay, too. We believe this makes Fate/Extra Record accessible and easy to play for newcomers, while offering a fresh experience for fans of the original game. The Holy Grail War After humanity discovered a supercomputer hidden on the moon, everything changed. Known as the Moon Cell Automaton, this powerful computer created the Holy Grail, an omnipotent machine capable of granting any wish. Thus began the Holy Grail War, a tournament taking place in SE.RA.PH, a digital world constructed by the Moon Cell Automaton. It’s there that 128 combatants, or Masters, are pitted against each other in hopes of being the ultimate victor. At each of their sides stands a Servant, a hero drawn from human history, who will help them fight to claim the Holy Grail and fulfill their wish.  At the center of it all is you, a Master with no memory of how you found yourself in the middle of this conflict. Your only chance of survival is to contract a Servant and join this brutal war. Navigating the War Gather Information on your enemy: The key to victory is finding out the identity of the enemy Servant. The Servant’s True Name is a crucial piece of information as it will be tied to their combat style and weakness. Gather information and uncover their true identity! Explore the Arena: To qualify for the Decisive Battle, you must explore sections of the Arena. By overcoming traps and enemies on each floor, your Servant will grow stronger. The Final Battle: A one-on-one battle between two Servants commanded by their Masters. The losing Master will forfeit not only the tournament, but their life. The Holy Grail War continues until there is only one participant remaining. Battle System Fate/Extra Record’s battle system has been completely overhauled from the original game. Now, combat plays out through the use of customizable decks in Command Card Battles. It’s up to you to build your deck with a variety of different Commands, bringing an added layer of strategy to each encounter. Choosing the Best Actions from Your Hand: There are three kinds of Commands: Attack types that inflict damage on the enemy, Guard types that add to your shield to decrease damage taken, and Skill types that have their own unique abilities. Commands will differ depending on your Servant and thus require different tactics for each combat style. Your Deck is the Key to Battle: New Commands can be obtained through treasure boxes in the Arena and defeating powerful foes. Each Servant’s Combat Style: Players can choose one of three Servants to fight alongside them in the Moon Holy Grail War. Each Servant possesses unique abilities and strengths, so learning how to make the most of their individual talents can give you an edge in battle. Discover what sets each Servant apart and experience their distinct fighting styles for yourself! Along with standard digital editions on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, we’ll also have a Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the Fate/Extra Record digital edition, numerous cosmetic costumes, an in-game arranged music pack from the original Fate/Extra, and the digital versions of the art book and soundtrack that are included in the physical Limited Edition. We can’t wait for you all to enjoy Fate/Extra Record, reborn!

Title: Constantly reshape the world beneath your feet in the reality-bending "puzzle-first" Uncanyon, the next game from the devs behind the trippy Maquette Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 21:50:42 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/constantly-reshape-the-world-beneath-your-feet-in-the-reality-bending-puzzle-first-uncanyon-the-next-game-from-the-devs-behind-the-trippy-maquette A problem that games have, I find, is that it's quite hard for them to inspire a sense of wonder. The kind of thing that old movies, before CGI, that would make you think, "how did they do that?" But games are all CGI, spiritually anyway, so it's a bit harder for the craft itself to truly wow in terms of not being able to comprehend how something works. However! I felt that today when I saw the reveal trailer for Uncanyon, a puzzle game from the devs behind Maquette set in the seam between unparallel realities where the very shape of the world is constantly in flux. Title: While us lot in the West might like Dragon's Dogma 2's friction, Japan doesn't quite agree, and its producers say balancing that has been a real challenge Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 19:03:31 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/while-us-lot-in-the-west-might-like-dragons-dogma-2s-friction-japan-doesnt-quite-agree-and-its-producers-say-balancing-that-has-been-a-real-challenge Both the original and Dragon's Dogma 2 are not games for everyone. Not in the Dark Souls, uber challenging sort of way necessarily, just in that they do not hold your hand, right down to not even having a lock-on feature in combat. There's a long list of other aspects that provide friction, interesting friction, that make the games so beloved. At least, they're beloved in the West, because folks over in the RPG's home country of Japan have a different perspective, a difference its devs find difficult to balance. Read more
Title: Experiencing some day one Blood of Dawnwalker issues? Its devs know, and have some temporary solutions to help get you bloodsucking Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 17:05:46 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/experiencing-some-day-one-blood-of-dawnwalker-issues-its-devs-know-and-have-some-temporary-solutions-to-help-get-you-bloodsucking It's The Blood of Dawnwalker release day! The debut game of Rebel Wolves and the first new game from director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz since The Witcher 3. A day of what should be celebrations for many, I'm sure, instead a day of "oh, huh, this isn't running so well on PC, is it?" This is fairly common for big releases these days, but the devs do come with some temporary suggestions for the variety of issues they're aware of. Read more
Title: Onimusha: Way of the Sword is best when it's silly, and despite some gloomy open world slogging, sometimes even remembers it Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 17:00:23 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/onimusha-way-of-the-sword-is-best-when-its-silly-and-despite-some-gloomy-open-world-slogging-sometimes-even-remembers-it The opening minutes of Onimusha: Way of the Sword are glorious, in the sense that they’re utterly shambolic. Wandering ronin Musashi wakes up under a bridge, belts a wrong-footingly British "WOT?!" at some starving urchins eyeing up his rice ball, then proceeds to be chased around a muddy village by what feels like two thousand martial arts students, only occasionally stopping to boot a wooden plank into their faces or scoop up an imperilled dog. It’s goofy and brash and genuinely funny, in a way that immediately looks to elevate it among the field of po-faced fantasy slashers as effectively as any well-honed parry mechanic. Why in the following hours, then, does Way of the Sword make only occasional attempts to match this intro’s energy? Read more
