Title: Best Items To Get Early In Mortal Shell 2 Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 14:54:14 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/mortal-shell-2-best-items-to-get-early/ Are you thinking about the best items to get early in Mortal Shell 2? There are plenty of goodies to be found all over the ruined lands of Fallgrim. These include melee weapons, sidearms, and consumables. Some, like Tarstones, also help you greatly as they add new effects to your equipped gear. Our guide has all the details that you need as you explore some nearby locales. Best early-game items in Mortal Shell 2 Before we get started, we do recommend a couple of articles that you can check out. The first is our beacons and maps guide, which gives you a lay of the land while you’re roaming around. The second is our Fainweald exploration guide, which is a step-by-step outline of the places that you need to check out upon arriving in the region. Marsh Peals Marsh Pearls are items that you should get early in Mortal Shell 2. You can obtain at least four from an NPC named Gorf just by handing over a single Weltcap. Just keep talking to Gorf and resetting the world via the nearby beacon, all while exhausting his dialogue responses. Each Marsh Pearl can be sold for 2,000 coins. That’s an easy 8,000 coins very early in the campaign. With all that gold, you can buy a bunch of goodies, as well as spend some on weapon and sidearm upgrades. The Marsh Pearls from Gorf net you quite a lot of gold. Leech effect Tarstones Tarstones with the leech status effect grant bonus health. It might not seem much until you realize that stacks persist even if your character perishes, as long as the weapon with that Tarstone isn’t equipped at that time. The first Tarstone that you want to get is the Parasitic Stone, which is in the Martyr’s Tomb dungeon. It’s just slightly south of the Great Arbiter of Flesh miniboss. The second Tarstone is called the Unwieldy Stone, which can be purchased from Merrick in Marrow Keep for 2,000 coins. The leech effect from Tarstones (left) continuously stacks with each enemy you slay (right). Troubadour’s Lute The Troubadour’s Lute, which comes from the One-Legged Wolf Tavern, is one of the best early-game items in Mortal Shell 2. That’s because, unlike other sidearms in the game, it can actually inflict the confusion status effect on enemies. If your target is unable to resist confusion, it will attack its old buddies for a few seconds. By extension, multiple hostiles that are confused would, naturally, just end up killing each other while you stare in disbelief. Note 1: The tavern where you find the Troubadour’s Lute is also where you can unlock the Gragu shell, provided that you’re able to complete Gragu’s task. Note 2: The Troubadour's Lute can be used to play various theme music. Get ready to cause some confusion with the Troubadour's Lute. Grisha Remnant The Grisha Remnant is another item that you need to get early in Mortal Shell 2. There are several of these found in the game world. In fact, by the time we concluded the campaign, we already had seven. As for the earliest one that you can get, well, it’s actually in the Flooded Village, the same place where you obtain the Forgotten Crossbow. There’s a Grisha that’s trapped in a pit. If you manage to kill it, you receive its remains as a prize. So, what exactly makes the Grisha Remnant a must-have item? It’s due to its passive effect, which grants a chance to summon a Grisha spirit. The description says this is an “on-hit” effect, but it’s more of an “on-swing” proc. That means there’s a pretty good chance that a Grisha pops up during tense battles, slamming and pouncing on your foes until they’re beaten to a pulp. Summon a Grisha to bulldoze your opponents. Justiciar’s Stone and Gloombound Stone Both the Justiciar’s Stone (gold boost) and Gloombound Stone (gloom boost) are integral Tarstones in the long run. This is primarily due to how much they increase your resource acquisition as you defeat enemies. The Jusiticar’s Stone is in eastern Fainweald, in a cavern just past the Broodshell Swarm encounter. The Gloombound Stone, meanwhile, is in the Stones of Remembrance graveyard just a short distance away. Amass more gold with the Justiciar's Stone. Axatana We consider the Axatana as one of the best weapons in Mortal Shell 2, which is why you should get it early. That said, it’s going to be a long trek: From the Outskirts of Mammon beacon, keep going south and jump across the massive chasm by way of the bone gates. At the opposite side, in the fortress known as Castigator’s Keep, continue going south while avoiding the enemies. These include a couple of annoying Ballista-Head creatures. At the courtyard with the Synaptic Vessel, start heading eastward to the snowy rock outcropping. Keep using the bone gates to jump across the gaps. Eventually, you’ll reach the Forgotten Tower. Shoot the bell underneath the bridge to fully repair the structure. Alternatively, use the other bone gate to make it across. Press the switch next to the metal door and defeat the Dagger Sester, then claim your reward. It's going to be a long trek (left) just to get the Axatana (right), but it's well worth the effort. The Axatana has extremely fast attack animations. Not only does it deal a lot of damage, but the speed itself helps immensely with debuff application. That does it for our guide on the best early-game items in Mortal Shell 2. Don’t forget to check our beginner’s guide if you need help while starting out. Oh, and we also have articles about all weapon locations and all shell locations if you’re excited to venture across the regions of Fainweald and Mammon.
Title: Where To Go First In Mortal Shell 2 Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 14:49:28 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/mortal-shell-2-where-to-go-first/ Do you want to know where you should go first in Mortal Shell 2? The lands of Fallgrim, now broken up into multiple regions, remain vast. Setting out on a trek isn’t for the faint of heart given all the challenges along the way. Fortunately, our guide here will walk you through what you can expect within the first few hours of playing the campaign proper--i.e. after the prologue. In This Article Where to go first in FainwealdWidow’s Overlook and Glimpse from pre-cleansed beaconsRevered Gland and Gloombound FlameA quick trek to the south: The Martyr’s Tomb, region map, and Tiel shellHeading to the north: Part 1 - Gorf and gold-farmingHeading to the north: Part 2 - The Proxima shell and another region mapA few odds and ends: Ova, Tarstones, and unlocking fast travel Where to go first in Fainweald Let’s say you’ve already completed Mortal Shell 2’s prologue. That means you’ve checked out everything in Marrow Keep--which acts as your main hub--and you’ve just ridden the elevator to the top of the tower. The side that leads to the Ruins of Mammon region is blocked by corrupted growths, and you don’t want to go there yet anyway. Instead, you should look at the teleporter gate that’s cleared, one that’s overlooking the Fainweald region. That is where you need to go first in Mortal Shell 2. Note: We recommend checking our fast travel beacons and region maps guide so you have an idea about the beacons that you should tag and the maps that you should collect. A map showing some early-game points-of-interest. Widow’s Overlook and Glimpse from pre-cleansed beacons The only beacon that’s active in Fainweald is called Widow’s Overlook. Once you land there like a meteor, enter it to find a Glimpse in the inner chamber. The Glimpse resource is used via the Shellkeeper NPC in Marrow Keep. This improves your bonds with the shells that you unlock. Doing so allows you to select amazing perks, including boosts to active abilities and status effect immunity. The first pre-cleansed beacon that you reach (left) has a Glimpse, the resource needed to increase shell bonds (right). Revered Gland and Gloombound Flame From the Widow’s Overlook beacon, turn around to see a muddy area guarded by the Great Arbiter of Flesh miniboss. You can fight this fella if you’re up to the task, or you can just avoid him and quickly grab some loot: Gloombound Flame - Bring this to the top of the Marrow Keep tower and light the lantern. This lets you change the game’s difficulty. Revered Gland - Use it via a beacon to increase the number of Mether’s Pulse--i.e. healing flask--charges. The Great Arbiter of Flesh is guarding two important items. A quick trek to the south: The Martyr’s Tomb, region map, and Tiel shell From the Great Arbiter of Flesh’s area, keep following the path to the south to spot the following: Fainweald map - Use the air current to get to the top of the rock formation. Tiel shell - Found buried in a shallow grave. This ought to be the first shell that you unlock. You should then utilize Tiel's stealth-based abilities. As an aside, near the miniboss' area, there’s a ruin with a staircase that leads to a dungeon called Martyr’s Tomb. Defeat the enemies down below to claim the Obsidian Lathe and the Parasitic Stone. The former is used for Tarforge upgrades, and the latter is a Tarstone that grants the leech effect--i.e. a temporary increase to your HP--when you kill hostiles. Simply shoot the device above the metal grate to exit the room. Get Tiel immediately (left) and start checking out dungeons (right). Heading to the north: Part 1 - Gorf and gold-farming Now that you have the Tiel shell, where should you go next in Mortal Shell 2? Well, we recommend going on a quick trek to the north this time. Just past the Widow’s Overlook beacon, you’ll see a combat trial. Feel free to eliminate the enemies there to receive the Retribution Stone, which increases riposte damage. From the trial altar, swing to the right to stumble upon a giant frog NPC named Gorf--because, you know, that’s “frog” backward. Anyway, if you give 1x Weltcap to this fella, he’ll hand over a Marsh Pearl. It’s an item that can be sold to a vendor for 2,000x coin. Return to the beacon to reset the world and talk to Gorf again to receive yet another Marsh Pearl. Keep doing this until you have four of the items, which will then cause Gorf to give you a Poisoned Dagger as part of his quest. Note: By now, you should have enough coins to buy the Revered Gland and Synaptic Vessel items from Merrick in Marrow Keep. At this point, you’ll have 5x flask charges with a slight boost to the healed amount. Gorf's true love will cure him of all his ailments. Heading to the north: Part 2 - The Proxima shell and another region map You’re not done yet, though. Just past the trial altar, there’s a rope bridge at the left-hand side. This leads to the second map for the Fainweald region. Next, if you take the other rope bridge--i.e. the one closer to Gorf's location--you’ll come across the Blackridge Pass beacon. Just beyond that, there’s a clearing where Cultists and Treants are fighting. The sloping path to the left has a Spider-Leech enemy guarding a lone beacon. Run past it and enter the structure. Inside, you’ll be able to unlock the Proxima shell. Check the Blackridge Cliffs area (left) to find the Proxima shell (right). A few odds and ends: Ova, Tarstones, and unlocking fast travel So, you’ve got two shells, a couple of beacons and maps, and some upgrades already. Where should you go next in Mortal Shell 2? Now, at this stage, it would be a good idea to grab some additional loot and Ova--i.e. glowing eggs that are required for campaign progression. Blackridge Pass beacon - Cleanse the beacon’s dungeon to obtain 650x coin, 1x Glimpse, and 1x Ovum. Mushroom Village beacon - Cleanse the beacon’s dungeon to obtain the Emberseed Stone, 1x Glimpse, and 1x Ovum. Mushroom Village Gate beacon - Keep heading to the southeastern part of Fainweald to tag this beacon. Then, cleanse its dungeon to obtain the Volatile Fragment, 1x Glimpse, and 3x Ova. Cleansing the Mushroom Village Gate beacon grants you access to the Corrupted Gate major dungeon known as the Glutted Mire. You may also pick up some additional Glimpse near the gateway. Even better, since you’ve picked up at least 5x extra Ova, you can return to Marrow Keep’s ova chamber to siphon the eggs. This unlocks the Mether’s Breath power. With it, you’ll be able to remove corrupted growths in overworld areas. Likewise, you’ll be able to fast travel to the beacons that you’ve tagged. Collect and siphon enough Ova to unlock fast travel. That does it for our guide on where to go first in Mortal Shell 2. From here, you can go ahead and delve into more dungeons, complete the rest of Gorf's quest, check out the Flooded Village, or enter the aforementioned Corrupted Gate. If you need more help for the initial hours of the campaign, you can read our best early-game items guide and beginner's guide. We also have a shell locations guide and weapons/sidearms locations guide to help you as you duke it out against terrifying foes.
Title: Canceled Star Wars RPG Magellan Looked Like A Star Wars Take On Borderlands Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 14:25:04 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/canceled-star-wars-rpg-magellan-looked-like-a-star-wars-take-on-borderlands/ There's no shortage of Star Wars games in development right now, but one game set in a galaxy far (far!) away that you won't be playing is an AAA action-RPG set in that sci-fi series. Developed under the codename Magellan--it's worth noting that Zynga has never officially confirmed this project--the project would have allowed players to pick up a lightsaber and play as a Jedi, or, if they wanted to be cool, a Mandalorian. According to official development materials seen and uploaded by MP1st, Magellan was in development at Echtra Games, but the studio was shut down last year by its owner, Zynga. NaturalMotion was also assisting on the game's production, which reportedly kicked off in 2021. Some footage shared by a former Echtra Games developer shows off a third-person ARPG with plenty of shoot-and-loot gameplay, featuring two character classes: Jedi and Mandalorian. Jedi have their signature lightsabers and the ability to use the Force, while Mandalorians can use their jetpacks to get around, flamethrowers, and ranged weaponry. https://bsky.app/profile/mp1st.bsky.social/post/3mta2kmdefc2u Both classes could use gadgets like electric grenades, and the core gameplay loop seemed to revolve around obtaining "Booster Gear" from enemies and opening reward chests. An "NPC Bond System" would also have allowed players to build relationships with NPCs when they weren't fighting Stormtroopers and droids. Magellan was originally targeting a PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S release, but work on the project ceased, and Magellan joined a long list of canceled Star Wars games, like Star Wars 1313, Visceral's Project Ragtag, and a Republic Commando sequel. While Magellan is currently one with the Force, the wait for new Star Wars games is paying off with the release of the XCOM-like Zero Company on August 27 and Star Wars: Galactic Racer on October 6. This year's D23 also had plenty of reveals for the wider Star Wars franchise, including a new look at Ahsoka's second season, the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie starring Ryan Gosling, and the recent release of The Ninth Jedi, a standalone spinoff of the Star Wars: Visions anthology. Title: Kingdom Hearts 4 Delay, You Say? No Way, Series Co-Creator States Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 13:43:21 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/kingdom-hearts-4-delay-you-say-no-way-series-co-creator-states/ Over the weekend, Disney's D23 expo not only revealed that Kingdom Hearts 4 will feature Pixar's Coco, but also that the action-RPG is set to arrive in late 2027. Now, it's been a long time since we've seen a new mainline installment in the Square Enix series--already over seven years at this point. So people are expressing skepticism about the release window, but franchise co-creator Tetsuya Nomura is promising Kingdom Hearts 4 will come out next year. VGC reports that Nomura, who's co-directing Kingdom Hearts 4, appeared on stage Saturday at D23 to discuss the new title. "We announced that the game is going to be coming late 2027, and I saw online that some people were saying, 'Oh, you know, maybe the actual release date might still get pushed back,'" Nomura said through a translator. "I just wanted to set the record straight: That is not happening." Along with the release window, the world of Coco looks to have a major presence in Kingdom Hearts 4. In fact, Sora is even seen fighting alongside Hector in the new trailer for the RPG (seen above). It was also confirmed that Donald and Goofy will be playable characters for the first time ever in the franchise. Kingdom Hearts 4 was originally announced over four years ago for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, during the franchise's 20th anniversary in 2022. In June, the game was announced for Switch 2. Kingdom Hearts is one of Disney's nine gaming franchises to generate over $1 billion. Hilariously enough, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner has no memory of giving the first game his approval almost a quarter of a century ago. The Best Way To Play Kingdom Hearts View Images
Title: Disney Is Bringing Fortnite Into Its Real-World Star Wars Rides Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 13:29:57 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/disney-is-bringing-fortnite-into-its-real-world-star-wars-rides/ Disney invested more than $1.5 billion into Epic Games to help create synergies between Fortnite and the company's lucrative theme park business, and now how that integration works is coming to light. As revealed at Disney's D23 event this weekend, Fortnite is integrating with the Smuggler's Run ride at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. For anyone just catching up, Smugglers Run is an interactive motion simulator attraction that has six people piling into the Millennium Falcon as they work together to collect crates for the fan-favorite pirate, Hondo. With this new Fortnite collaboration, those crates will now unlock content in the game. Here's how it works. Connected to this, Fortnite is adding a new Fortnite island called Smugglers Gambit, which takes place around Mersa Veta Station on the planet Ord Ryla. "You’ll team up with friends, take on co-op missions, battle pirates and Imperial remnants, encounter dangerous wildlife, unlock new gear, and build your reputation across the Outer Rim," reads a line from the description. "And because this is Hondo we’re talking about, there are plenty of opportunities for things to go wonderfully right… or spectacularly wrong." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7__yYz8kg4o People need to connect their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts for this to work. This integration is already live, having launched on Sunday, August 16 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. One of the first perks is the Forsworn Trooper Outfit, which you can see in the image above. Disney's CEO, Josh D'Amaro, is a big believer in video games and was personally spearheading the company's investment and collaboration with Epic Games. Beyond this new partnership, D'Amaro has said one day people may be able to buy Disney Cruise Line tickets inside Fortnite or watch a Disney movie. Additionally, Disney is said to be working on an Arc Raiders-style game to be released in Fortnite.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/ Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all. With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.  When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. From A+ to AAA Gaming  This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming. With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks. The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead. The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own. A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too. Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices. Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way. Everyone, at Their Stations Needlers never looked so sharp. Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.” Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play. Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan. From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission. Title: Hands-on report: Marvel’s Wolverine Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 15:00:03 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/13/hands-on-report-marvels-wolverine/ It’s been a big week for fans of Marvel’s Wolverine, starting with the announcement of sharp-looking PS5 hardware and accessories. Now, with just over a month away until its September 15 launch, Insomniac is sharing a deep dive on the game’s story, combat, and exploration thanks to an extensive hands-on session with the game.   Our two-hour session kicked off with the game’s opening mission in the wilds of Telambang, where Wolverine has reunited with Team X to carry out a critical mission infiltrating the facility of anti-mutant industrialist Bolivar Trask. After slicing our way to a daring rescue, we jumped ahead in the game to a bombastic boss fight and a taste of Madripoor’s Lowtown. Between brutal barrages, stealthy scouting, and a range of rage-filled takedowns, we got to cut to the bone of the game’s story, flesh out Wolverine’s allies and foes, and uncover a piece of his buried past.   Taking on Trask  From the game’s opening moments flashing back to a feral, mangy-haired, and memory-wiped Wolverine, every sequence tested the balance between his rage and humanity. The first mission reunites him with Team X, a mutant task force formed by Nathaniel Essex to help protect mutants. Wolverine had stepped away from the group, something that has rankled his teammates, a wry Mystique and ever-savage Sabretooth.   Their mission takes them from the hidden facility of billionaire Bolivar Trask to the seedy backstreets of Madripoor, presenting Wolverine with the grim reality of what mutants in this world are facing. With mutants largely unknown by society, Trask has been spending his billions abducting, studying, and cruelly disposing of mutants with little regard for his victims in a quest to maintain human superiority. As the nefarious reality of the facility’s purpose becomes clearer, the horror Wolverine feels quickly pools into an unbridled rage. That rage drives him forward through throngs of Reaver enemies and a run in with Omega Red to eventually free Essex, who has been held captive by Trask.   Essex is the one who found Wolverine years before in that feral state, and formed Team X to protect mutants and build a world where mutants can be open. Between Essex and Trask, Wolverine is faced with the lengths some will go to protect the future of their kind, and will challenge him to face what kind of person he wants to be in this future.   Sink your claws in  Between storylines and set pieces, my biggest takeaway from my time with Marvel’s Wolverine was that it feels dang good to sink those claws in. Wolverine doesn’t just attack enemies, he catapults himself at them, targeting and launching himself from across the room to stun or barrage. Every combat encounter becomes a furious flurry, where my adrenaline feels directly tied to Wolverine’s increasing rage.  While a simple parry and barrage can get the job done, Wolverine can unlock a number of Special Techniques, skills that can be upgraded and mapped to the directional buttons for an extra flair in a fight. In my playthrough, I could cleave through a group surrounding me with Tornado Spin, or interrupt enemy attacks with Knee Breaker. Players can also unlock Adaptations, which upgrade long-term effects and skills like Logan’s health and rage meter.  That rage will come in handy. Successful combos build up Wolverine’s rage meter, which rises through three Rage Tiers to dramatically alter his fighting style. As Wolverine enters Rage Tier 2, his combos become more powerful and he unlocks Last Stand, which allows him to use his rage to heal his body if fully downed. But things really go over the edge when Wolverine’s meter fills to Rage Tier 3. His attacks become significantly more powerful, while brutal critical strikes become available. His vision seems to close in, his breathing getting louder and more primal as he darts between enemies, slicing and dicing with ease. Those critical strikes can lead to some dangerously fun takedowns, like snatching a member of The Hand’s katana or bow to slam back into them.   Sometimes, Wolverine needs a more methodical approach. He can use his Enhanced Senses to track and takedown enemies more stealthily. Trask also has Ability Inhibitors at his disposal that block Wolverine and his teammates from using their abilities. In these moments, he must work past the pain and fight without healing, focusing on taking enemies down with classic combat moves and destroying the Inhibitors before it’s too late.  It took all the skills I had gathered so far to take on the looming Sentinel Prototype towards the end of my preview. Built by Trask to detect and destroy mutants, this fight took all of Wolverine’s patience and strategy, dodging or parrying the Sentinel’s powerful attacks, while waiting for the perfect moments to strike. This sequence was thrilling both to use Wolverine’s abilities to their fullest potential, and to watch as he worked in tandem with Mystique and Sabretooth. By the time I was busting through the Sentinel’s head victorious, I had a wild grin on my face and felt amped and ready to take on anyone.   More to explore  Luckily after that fight, there was still more to explore. In Madripoor, surrounded by allies new and old, we took a moment of respite in Princess Bar (run by Tyger). Here we got to interact with newly acquired ally Jean Grey, and the mutant teens she has been protecting. Though they are still a mystery to one another, Jean and Wolverine’s connection is immediate. It’s with her that he can admit that his anger sometimes scares him and that he wants to be better.  I enjoyed that Wolverine also makes time here for his teammates Mystique and Sabretooth. Mystique stays focused and on mission during combat, shifting through identities when needed. Here in Princess Bar, she can just be herself, and encourages Wolverine to do the same through a friendly but vulnerable game of Never Have I Ever. Sabretooth spends most of the game’s opening antagonizing Wolverine and calling him a runt, which is fair enough given he stands about as tall as Sabretooth’s navel. But it’s clear their relationship runs deeper, and Sabretooth feels spurned by Wolverine’s original exit from the group.   While exploring the streets of Lowtown, I could take the time to check out some of Wolverine’s other looks and claw types, which ranged from a classic undershirt and jeans outfit to a Weapon X helmeted style. While walking around the Princess Bar, Wolverine’s Enhanced Senses could pick up on conversation or music that could guide him to specific rooms, or trail a teammate’s scent to find where they’ve run off to. Exploring each room sometimes led to a conversation, or finding easter eggs, like Mystique’s wedding pictures, or an IOU written on an ace of spades card from one Remy LeBeau.   Take the time to explore each new location, as Wolverine can discover hidden crates with raw upgrade materials or collectable whisky bottles. Logan can also stumble across Nightmare Doors, which transport him to a dreamlike cabin to take part in a Nightmare Trial. These timed speed trials reimagine different locations from the game into a vertical fever dream, where he can race to the end to unlock a forgotten memory from his past.   Players can sink their claws into Wolverine’s story and tap into his rage when Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15 on PS5 consoles.

Title: Mortal Shell 2 review: A monumental heavy metal sequel with the spirit of a '90s PC game Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 14:33:22 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/mortal-shell-2-review-a-monumental-heavy-metal-sequel-with-the-spirit-of-a-90s-pc-game A few hours into your sojourn across Mortal Shell 2's harsh realm of Fainweald, you might stumble upon a tavern called The One Legged Wolf. In a monstrous land inhabited by pasty-faced brigands who refer to you as "brev" right before shanking you, this watering hole exudes novelty. Here, said thugs congregate to make merry and listen to the strums of the shirtless lute-player on stage. Even if you do as I did, and accidentally massacre the guy with a shot from your sidearm, nobody minds. The One Legged Wolf is a weird, memorable place where folk are free to do their own thing. In many ways, The One Legged Wolf is emblematic of Mortal Shell 2, a sequel that stands out from the pack by melding the modern dark fantasy Soulslike with a willingness to ditch genre formula, a cheeky sense of humour, and the DNA of a PC-only game from yesteryear. The result is a goth cousin of more mainstream fare like Elden Ring, not to mention a phenomenal effort that outclasses its predecessor in a manner that we probably haven't seen since The Witcher III. Title: Sraëka Lillian's one-a-week RPG "sketches" are a lovely series of experiments with hoary old conventions from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 13:39:43 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/sraeka-lillians-one-a-week-rpg-sketches-are-a-lovely-series-of-experiments-with-hoary-old-conventions-from-final-fantasy-and-dragon-quest There's a running joke in the world of THEA-TAH that Shakespeare's Hamlet is a play made up entirely of quotations. I often get the same feeling when I play a fantasy RPG, and especially a fantasy RPG created with toolkits such as EasyRPG or RPG Maker that come with their own freely reusable assets, resulting in a slew of homebrew RPGs that can seem interchangeable, on the surface. Title: Witcher 3 cut quest restoration mod The WAR Project is finding a new voice for its fresh Vernon Roche lines, following alleged "severe incident of gross misconduct" Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 11:33:24 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/witcher-3-cut-quest-restoration-mod-the-war-project-is-finding-a-new-voice-for-its-fresh-vernon-roche-lines-following-alleged-severe-incident-of-gross-misconduct The creators of massive in-development The Witcher 3 mod The WAR Project are recasting their version of Temerian commander Vernon Roche, citing "a severe incident of gross misconduct" allegedly committed by the person they'd initially given the role. Said person is no longer involved with the mod and those working on it say they don't think this incident "will impact [their] current schedule significantly". Read more
Title: This week in PC games: survival horror in a waterlogged city, kaiju chaos in a destructible city, and old school GTA vibes in an isometric insurgency simulator Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 11:19:50 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/this-week-in-pc-games-survival-horror-in-a-waterlogged-city-kaiju-chaos-in-a-destructible-city-and-old-school-gta-vibes-in-an-isometric-insurgency-simulator Videogames. We're not even into the hell month of September – where every major developer besides Rockstar seems to be releasing their big games of the year – and we're looking at a packed week.
