Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/2027-upcoming-games-release-schedule/
2027 is shaping up to be another big year for new video games, as the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S continue to get plenty of games despite their massively increased prices, and Nintendo's Switch 2 has been, slowly but surely, getting a great lineup of exclusives. Whether you're waiting for a new soulslike or the big new AAA first-person shooter, 2027 very likely has something you can look forward to playing.
To break it all down as we move into 2027, GameSpot has outlined all the upcoming games for the year by month. Those games given a broader "2027" window are all included at the bottom of this page, as well, and as games continue to get final dates (or are announced for a 2027 window), they'll continue to be added to the list. For more, you can read up on all the games released in 2026 to see any you missed.

Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/2026-upcoming-games-release-schedule/1100-6534941/
2026 has begun, and it looks to be a very exciting year for video games. In addition to being the first full year for the Switch 2--we'll surely hear about even more games for the system as we move further into the year--2026 will also see the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is widely anticipated as one of the biggest entertainment launches of all time, if it doesn't get yet another delay. We'll see plenty of other sequels to popular franchises, as well as a number of brand-new games across everything from console to mobile.
In order for you to keep track of everything coming in 2026, GameSpot has broken down the entire year by month, showing games with final release dates as well as games given a nebulous "2026" window. As more games are announced, they'll be added to this list, and those given final dates will be shifted into the relevant sections. For more, check out all the games released in 2025.

Title: Silent Hill-Like Uses Phones To Parry, Because Even Anime Girls Know Tech Is A Weapon
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 21:14:28 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/silent-hill-like-uses-phones-to-parry-because-even-anime-girls-know-tech-is-a-weapon/
The survival-horror genre was born about 30 years ago, when people were scared of long shadows in Resident Evil's mansion, or of Silent Hill's medical gauzy fog -- but we've since moved on to more insidious enemies. There are data breaches from Meta, AI-generated restaurant menus that make burritos look like they've been shot with a gun, and other evidence that technology is constantly distorting and desecrating our lives. Upcoming Silent Hill-ish horror game Signal Veil understands the weight of that, so its protagonist uses a little flip phone as her weapon.
Aki, who could pass as another vapid anime schoolgirl if it weren't for the sleepy bruises under her eyes, looks terrified to be alone in a new trailer revealed during Insider Gaming's 28 Games Later Horror Showcase. But, even when she's being pursued by a fleshy monstrosity, she isn't really by herself -- she has her mom's dainty, vintage cell phone, which players can use to physically attack enemies in a unique combat system.
Developer Time Hunters tells Insider Gaming in an interview, "We grew up loving classic horror games like Resident Evil, but for Signal Veil we wanted to lean much more into psychological horror." So, as the Silent Hill franchise's crackling radio did for many of its main characters, Aki's cell phone shivers and hisses whenever it detects a monster. The sound is enough to make you, the player, paranoid, but Signal Veil's sanity system takes fear further by giving Aki's fraying mind gameplay consequences.
"As her mental state deteriorates, the way she fights becomes more desperate, aggressive, and messy," Signal Veil developers say. Her teeny cell phone can knock enemies' heads around, or even use its camera flash to stun enemies and leave them open to a parry.
"We really like games with parry systems, so at some point we thought, 'What if you could use the phone to parry an enemy?'" devs say. "It was one of those ideas that sounded strange at first, but once we tried it, we loved it." After all, technology is a weapon -- if it can hurt us, it should be able to save us, too.
Signal Veil doesn't yet have a release date, but it's available to wishlist on Steam.
Title: How Silent Hill: Townfall’s “Creepy Game Boy” Weaponizes Nostalgia For The Better
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 21:00:17 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-silent-hill-townfalls-creepy-game-boy-weaponizes-nostalgia-for-the-better/
.
I have a complicated relationship with the 1990s, an era remembered for its hazy pre-HD tech and early signs of broader connectivity without the mentally taxing standard of an always-online world. Lately, I've found the aesthetics of that era calling to me in the books I read, the shows I watch, and even in my social media feeds that regularly spit out "remember when?" reels that dredge up imagery of classrooms and malls that I never actually set foot in yet feel familiar. Instagram seems to think I'm simply nostalgic for this stuff, not understanding that I actually find it very eerie, snapshots of a childhood I can hardly recall for complicated reasons. And yet, I'm mesmerized by it.
Most recently, I felt that same pull in Screen Burn's Silent Hill: Townfall.
Whereas games like Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 were set roughly in their respective modern days and are today revered as dreary time capsules, Townfall resurrects similar vibes, in turn revealing which parts stick out most to the team performing that necromancy.
In a recent conversation with the studio's co-founder and Townfall's writer, Jon McKellan, he told me how Screen Burn sought to weaponize a particular type of nostalgia through the game's handheld CRTV device, and why the 1990s remain the ideal backdrop for a horror story.
GameSpot: When Silent Hill: Townfall was first revealed, I wondered if it would be primarily a "gizmo" kind of game, like Stories Untold. Observation has a lot of physical interaction like that, too. What is it the team likes about that sort of thing in games?
Jon McKellan: I think with horror, having something recognisable and tangible just sort of grounds you in the world a little bit more. People might not ever have owned one, but we all can understand the sensation of holding a little screen in our hands that shows us scary things! I’ve always loved analogue video aesthetics, and it’s been a big part of my own art style through my career, so the idea of making an entire core mechanic/device around that aesthetic and experience felt like a great fit, especially when riffing off the static and radio features of previous Silent Hill titles.
Was there ever a version of Silent Hill: Townfall that was only going to be that (I'd actually expected something like Killer Frequency), or was it built from the ground up with first-person exploration and combat in mind, too?
We always had combat and exploration in mind. One of the earliest conversations I can recall on this project was Graeme and [I] discussing the idea of allowing the player to get up, walk around, explore, and deal with threats while solving those puzzles. It felt like the next big step in the experiences we at Screen Burn were building--to finally face a threat that was more visceral and immediate than we had ever had before in our previous titles.
How did the team land on the physical design and form factor of the device? It kind of reminds me of a haunted Game Boy.
I think we did actually refer to it as a "Creepy Game Boy" at one point in concept phases! We looked at a lot of different versions of pocket TVs from the '80s and '90s, and it was a case of trying to find the right shape, size, and style to feel weighty and old-fashioned in the characters’ hands, while giving us a big enough screen size on it to be useful in gameplay.
Some of the original Sony Watchman designs, for example, were very tall with small screens, and that kind of thing wouldn’t work on landscape compositions like a video game in first person, so we took all the best ideas, shapes, colour treatments, and so on from various different models and designed our own from scratch.
What came first: the '90s setting or the CRTV gadget itself? How did one then inform the other?
It all really came together at the same time early on. We knew we wanted to do something new with the concept of the classic Silent Hill radio, as it was a very obvious "Screen Burn" thing for us to play with.
At the same time, when I was exploring concepts for the story, the '90s setting fit for so many different reasons: the state of the world at that time, in places like St. Amelia especially, the rare availability of guns, and the fact that technology was starting to take off without actually being too useful at the time. We had email, internet, and pocket screens, but none were so useful they would get you out of a jam. There was no GPS on your phone, or even things like digitally tuning signals--it had to feel analogue, so it all just meshed together really well with the CRTV concept.
Was the CRTV nearly something very different, or perhaps even a traditional Silent Hill radio?
The very first sketches were in fact just a radio, yeah, and the idea was that you could simply tune into frequencies rather than passively receive static from enemies or the occasional voice. It felt very basic though and didn’t add much to gameplay, but tuning on the fly made sense. As soon as we latched on to the concept of it being a TV and having a screen that could be used for all sorts of game design uses, story development, and puzzle clues, the opportunities just immediately opened up for it, and there was no turning back.
How did you land on its specific functionality, and how it allows for tracking several enemies after scanning for them, but also really only one at a time in a "live" sense, albeit also through walls the way it does? It feels like it must've gone through some revisions before you landed on something you really liked.
There was a lot of experimentation for sure! We had tried lots of different versions of the mechanic surrounding enemies, from each ‘type’ of enemy on its own frequency, but multiple on the same one, to not showing their position visually and only showing you video of what type of enemy it was, and so on.
The great thing was that it was really fast to iterate and explore ideas, so we threw a lot of things at it to see what would work in different situations. How would it work with multiple enemies? How frustrating could it be to tune back and forth? What happens in areas with verticality? The last main addition was the quick tune, where once you had tuned into an enemy, you could quickly skip back and forth with the D-pad, making it much easier to track multiple enemies as you move around some more complex spaces.
Is there anything particularly Scottish about the CRTV's design? When playing Silent Hill: Townfall, I felt like I learned about the country's electricity system with that keycard-in-the-closet section.
There’s nothing in particular about the CRTV that is Scottish per se; it’s just something that fits that era particularly well. Not everyone would have one--especially not in a working-class island town!--but you maybe knew someone who did, or always wanted one if you were browsing an Argos catalogue in the '90s. It’s just like a portable cassette player--has a connection with that time and place, I guess.
Townfall's CRTV is used for stealth, puzzles, and story in different ways.
Do you or anyone on the team still collect things like this today? I'm 37, so I'm really into '90s nostalgia right now, and things like Backrooms and Silent Hill: Townfall have warped my Instagram algorithm to show me a lot of that stuff, though I don't own any of it myself.
Oh, we have a collection! Pretty much every bit of content you see on the CRTV in-game was actually played through a collection of different real pocket TVs or broadcast monitors. I run the signals from the game engine into these screens, and then generally distort the signal with static, magnets, and deliberately loose cables, and sort of "play" the interference and static like an instrument, varying its intensity or abruptness in time with dialogue or key moments.
I’d have a camera setup pointing at the screen, covered in sheets and filters to remove reflections, and film the "performance" of these scenes. This way, I’d pick up the real static and distortion, not faking it in software. It would also pick up different pixel grids for each type of screen--a 480p broadcast monitor versus a small LCD pocket TV would give you different pixel densities and layouts, which I would use depending on the scene or use case.
So over the years I’ve built up a collection of half-broken TVs and monitors, and still use them in production to this day. It’s one of the most fun parts of the job, and I could talk about it for hours!
I'm assuming you agree with me here, and please feel free to disagree if not, but what is it about the '90s that feels so right for horror?
I think it’s back to that cusp of technology thing. You can use old PCs to read basic emails, or receive signals that break up convincingly in a cinematic way. The more you move into the 2000s and the digital era comes in, the more you lose some of that. When digital TV breaks up, it usually just stops, which is no fun visually!
The main thing I think, though, is that texture, static, and tangible form factor all ground the player. You can be in an unbelievable situation in a dreamscape, and still feel scared because the thing in your hand is relatable in some way. You can imagine feeling that in your hand subconsciously, so I think that just lowers the barrier to immersion a little. We talk a lot internally about "weaponising nostalgia"--taking that familiar thing that you connect with in an “Oh, I remember this!” way and then making it tell you horrible things!
Silent Hill: Townfall is out now on PC and PS5. In GameSpot's Silent Hill: Townfall review, I spoke of how the game completes the series' comeback with a third consecutive great entry.

Aniimo codes give you bonus level-up materials and other currency, including glimmer. It might not have a traditional gacha system, but these freebies come in handy anyway. For one thing, you need a lot of level-up materials once you start raising your aniimo army. Plus you can use Glimmer in the in-game shop to buy useful items or the currency you can exchange for Sparkling Cubes to use on eggs. If none of that takes your fancy, you can always just keep it for later, too.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave works just fine as a standalone game you can enjoy without any knowledge of Three Houses. But it's also crammed with details and connections that tie the two closely together, including some pretty big revelations that expand on some of Three Houses' more vague worldbuilding elements. Nintendo's done little to highlight these connections, to the point where quite a few people still aren't sure if Fortune's Weave is a prequel or sequel. So we've listed some of the bigger connections below.

Also this week, 007 First Light receives a path-tracing update on GeForce NOW, alongside a smashing limited-time Deluxe Edition sale on Steam and Epic Games Store.
Gaijin Network’s fractured-multiverse action game Active Matter and Annapurna Interactive’s acclaimed space mystery Outer Wilds are also among 11 new titles joining the cloud this week.
Explore Idyll With the Cutest Companions
The path to Idyll begins now. Aniimo is a free-to-play, open-world creature-catching role-playing game where every creature encountered can become a companion. Glide, dive and burrow across Idyll, then return to a personal RV to build a warm, interactive Homeland alongside Aniimo companions. Stream Aniimo on a Steam Deck, in the newly supported Firefox browser and across any other supported devices — without waiting through its 45GB download or making room in local storage. There’s always room in the Homeland for one more Aniimo.
Choose Your Path
Licensed to render.
In the critically acclaimed, multimillion-selling 007 First Light, follow James Bond as a young, resourceful and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover a reimagined origin story of the world’s most famous spy. Incorporating IO Interactive’s signature stealth gameplay with world-class Bond action, players can embark on missions in breathtaking locations around the globe, drive iconic vehicles and dive into a cinematic adventure in pursuit of a rogue agent who’s always one step ahead.
Path tracing has now been added to 007 First Light, introducing extra-detailed lighting, shadows and reflections, making its levels and set pieces even more cinematic, immersive and realistic. And NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction ensures the fidelity, clarity and accuracy of these additions are at their absolute best.
Ultimate members can stream with GeForce RTX 5080-class performance, with up to 5K high dynamic range and cinematic-quality streaming. DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Frame Generation accelerate frame rates and enhance image quality.
A limited-time opportunity awaits: the 007 First Light Deluxe Edition is on sale on Steam from Sept. 15-29 and on Epic Games Store from Sept. 3-18. The mission is on sale. The getaway car is in the cloud.
Matter of Time
Gaijin’s Active Matter, a realistic military shooter set in a fractured multiverse, has launched on GeForce NOW. As an operative stuck in a time loop, join dangerous raids for loot or intense player vs. player battles.
Fight against rivals from other timelines, survive physics-breaking anomalies and try to stay alive. Harvest active matter, gather loot and extract to a safe place before the whole zone ceases to exist.
Ultimate members can take on each raid with GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud, delivering high frame rates, advanced graphics features and low latency across supported devices. The zone won’t wait — and neither does the next loop.
Let’s Get Loopy
Every loop holds another secret.
Outer Wilds joins the GeForce NOW library this week. As the newest recruit of Outer Wilds Ventures, search for answers across a strange, ever-changing solar system trapped in an endless time loop. Gamers can trace mysterious signals, decipher alien writing and discover hidden locations before an underground city is swallowed by sand or a planet crumbles beneath their feet.
There’s even more to stream this week:

Title: Boots on the Ground: ‘WARDOGS’ Goes All Out on GeForce NOW at Early-Access Launch
Date: Thu, 10 Sep 2026 13:00:18 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-wardogs/
Gear up: The latest PC games and major updates are ready to play on GeForce NOW this week. WARDOGS drops onto the cloud at early-access launch, alongside the Valheim 1.0 Deep North update and Bus Simulator 27 — part of nine new titles joining the cloud.
The newest PC releases can demand serious hardware, storage space and upgrade budgets. GeForce NOW puts GeForce RTX-powered performance in the cloud, so members can jump into the newest titles across supported devices without needing expensive PC upgrades to keep up.
From a 100-player tactical firefight to a frozen Viking frontier and a growing bus empire, every adventure is ready when members are — no downloads or storage management required.
Who Let the ‘WARDOGS’ Out?
Take on the Control Zone: WARDOGS launches on GeForce NOW today, bringing BULKHEAD’s large-scale tactical first-person shooter to the cloud at early-access launch.
Up to 100 players across three teams battle to control randomized zones in a large-scale military sandbox, where tactical gunplay, combined-arms combat, building and destruction can change the course of a match.
There’s no single route to victory. Outfit a loadout, coordinate a squad, fortify a strategic position or take the fight to the enemy in vehicles. Every team play action earns cash, giving players more ways to invest in gear and vehicles that can turn the tide.
Ultimate members can stream the fight with GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud for a tactical advantage. Pick up the battle across supported devices without waiting on a huge game install or clearing local storage first.
Ice, Ice in the Deep North, Baby
Sharpen the axes and raise the shields – Valheim has left early access with its 1.0 update, letting members stream the final biome in Iron Gate’s Viking survival saga through Steam and Xbox Store.
Set sail for the Deep North, a frozen frontier filled with new enemies to face, weapons to craft and strongholds to build before the cold closes in. The 1.0 launch also arrives alongside new platform versions with full crossplay support, making it easier to rally the clan.
Whether returning to a long-running world on a PC or Mac or beginning a fresh voyage on a Steam Deck or Amazon Fire TV Stick, members can head to the Deep North across supported devices without waiting for downloads.
The Wheels on the Bus Go ‘Round in the Cloud
The route to the top starts here.
Hop into the driver’s seat. Bus Simulator 27 is now streaming from GeForce NOW.
Drive a fleet of more than 45 officially licensed buses from 13 manufacturers through Felicia Bay, a sunny region with two cities, 20 districts and a full day-and-night cycle. Build routes, manage timetables and grow a successful bus company in Story, Career or Sandbox mode.
And there’s even more to stream from the GeForce NOW library this week:
Bus Simulator 27 (New release on Steam, Sept. 8)
Halloween: The Game (New release on Steam, Sept. 8)
Honeycomb: The World Beyond (New release on Steam, Sept. 8)
Wanderburg (New release on Steam, Sept. 8)
Shroom and Gloom (New release on Steam, Sept. 10)
Train Sim World 7 – Advanced Access (New release on Steam, Sept. 10)
WARDOGS (New release on Steam, Sept. 10)
Welcome to Elderfield (New release on Steam, Sept. 10)
Death Stranding Director’s Cut (Epic Games Store)
Dates listed above reflect when games are released on their respective stores. GeForce NOW availability may vary, as games are onboarded after release and added throughout the week. Keep an eye on GeForce NOW channels and GFN Thursdays for availability updates on announced titles.
One GFN community member recently returned after six years, saying NVIDIA DLSS 5 technology renewed their interest in GeForce NOW cloud gaming. Ready to try it out, too? Title: ‘NBA 2K27’ With NVIDIA DLSS 5 Leads 28 New Games Coming to GeForce NOW
Date: Thu, 03 Sep 2026 13:00:35 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-september-2026-games-list/
September is here with 28 more games streaming on GeForce NOW this month, led by a slam dunk: NBA 2K27 with the NVIDIA DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering feature.
Through NVIDIA’s close collaboration with Visual Concepts and 2K, DLSS 5 brings a new level of lifelike lighting and material detail to the court — tuned by developers to support the game’s authentic broadcast-style presentation.
Members can also walk the line between human and vampire in Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker and step into genma-haunted Kyoto in Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword — part of the 10 games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
Take the Court With DLSS 5
Showcase your moves.
NVIDIA, Visual Concepts and 2K have brought DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering to NBA 2K27, delivering a new level of sports realism for players streaming from the cloud at launch.
DLSS 5 enhances and tunes lighting and materials to make the action feel even more lifelike — from how light catches hair and skin to the detail preserved in the facial geometry of real-world athletes — achieving new levels of authenticity.
GeForce NOW Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions can stream NBA 2K27 across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more. DLSS 5 is available when streaming from a GeForce RTX 5080-powered rig in the cloud.
Tip off without waiting for downloads or managing storage, and experience NBA 2K27 from the cloud with the visual fidelity of DLSS 5.
Walk the Line Between Day and Night
Human by day. Vampire by night.
Rebel Wolves’ newly launched The Blood of Dawnwalker is streaming from GeForce NOW. The open-world, dark-fantasy action role-playing game transports players to 14th-century Europe, where war, plague and rising vampire powers have reshaped history.
Play as Coen, a young Dawnwalker fighting to save his family while caught between his humanity and cursed vampiric strength. His abilities — and the choices available to him — change between day and night, shaping how players explore, fight and uncover the secrets of the world around them.
Sink teeth into the fresh adventure from nearly any supported device, with Ultimate members tapping into GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Skip the installs and let GeForce NOW handle the heavy lifting, leaving more time to take a bite out of everything Coen’s new world has to offer.
Skip the Downloads and Sharpen the Sword
Pick up the Oni Gauntlet.
Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword arrives on GeForce NOW at launch, giving members a way to jump straight into the series’ return instantly from the cloud.
Fight across a twisted vision of Edo-period Kyoto as a lone samurai wielding the mystical Oni Gauntlet. Master precise swordplay, unleash powerful abilities and absorb the souls of fallen enemies while battling relentless Genma beneath mysterious clouds of Malice.
Ultimate members can stream every clash with GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs, the newly supported Firefox browser and more. Cut to the chase by skipping any downloads and storage management and step into battle.

Title: AI upscaling is coming to PS5
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 16:00:09 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/ai-upscaling-is-coming-to-ps5/
Since the launch of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on PS5 Pro, players and developers have asked whether similar image-quality improvements could be brought to the PS5 console. PSSR analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses AI to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to PS5 impossible.
Today, we’re excited to announce Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR): a new performance tier of AI upscaling. Born from Project Amethyst, our AI graphics collaboration with AMD, this quick new evolution of PSSR is built on two key innovations:
A streamlined neural network architecture
A hand-tuned implementation that maximizes performance on PS5
With these, we are bringing the benefits of AI-guided upscaling to PS5. While PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro, QSSR provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5.
The first titles to use this innovative new library are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Both are being patched today to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5.
Here’s what Insomniac Games and Sucker Punch Productions have to share about the benefits of this new technology:
Play Video
“Our team at Insomniac works hard to make sure each of our games is a showcase of PlayStation hardware, and we’re excited for Marvel’s Wolverine to be one of the first titles to bring this new QSSR technology to players.
QSSR adds more pixel-level clarity and stability to our environments, bringing out extra detail amidst the busy streets of Madripoor, the dense alleyways of Shinjuku, and many other areas across Logan’s epic journey. It’s a perfect companion to the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine, and it brings a great taste of the PS5 Pro experience to our players on PS5.
Personally, I love seeing how the PlayStation tech teams continually improve the PS5 platform, and I’m excited for more games to make use of QSSR in the future!”
– Mike Fitzgerald, Head of Technology / Insomniac Games
Play Video
“At Sucker Punch, we’re excited to bring QSSR to Ghost of Yōtei players so that they can experience the world we’ve created with even more clarity and detail. QSSR excels at resolving the fine details in our characters and environments and does so with a level of temporal stability that hasn’t been possible on the PS5 console until now. We’ve long wished that all PS5 players could experience the incredible image quality that PSSR brings to PS5 Pro, and QSSR is a positive step towards that goal!”
– Jasmin Patry, Lead Rendering Engineer / Sucker Punch Productions
QSSR will be offered broadly to all PlayStation developers, and we look forward to seeing these improvements in many more titles going forward!
Title: Martial arts meet fluid platforming in Elta: Defy All Gods, with a free PS5 demo out today
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 15:00:44 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/martial-arts-meet-fluid-platforming-in-elta-defy-all-gods-with-a-free-ps5-demo-out-today/
Take the punchy, fast-paced combat of a brawler, the tight platforming and exploration of a search-action game, and a cute dragon companion (who’s also the millennia-old god you worship), and blend everything together with a dash of anime flair. That is the recipe for Elta: Defy All Gods, our upcoming game here at Afterburner Studios, launching February 2nd, 2027.
Dive in with us as we explain how our action-platformer brings back the best from the classics while making it a fresh experience, what inspired us, and why you should jump into the free demo on PlayStation 5 today.
Play Video
A new take on action-platformers
Action-platformers have had a resurgence of interest in the last few years, providing an interesting mix of combat, exploration, and story, but few have tried blending explosive hand-to-hand fights with labyrinthian, non-linear exploration. Elta: Defy All Gods provides just that: impactful melee action, mixing martial arts and magic, broken up by flowing aerial platforming and discovery across three winding sci-fi worlds. The challenge lies in mastering both combat and navigation; juggling enemies in dynamic encounters across sprawling worlds that won’t always hold your hand.
The best way to explain our unique take on the genre is to coin a new term. We like to call Elta: Defy All Gods a “brawlervania”. Brawler enthusiasts will enjoy three martial art stances, each with their own skill trees, alongside magic systems to unleash built-up energy in massive attacks. Platforming players, on the other hand, will get a growing set of movement abilities with classic moves, such as the double jump, dash, wall run, and grapple. That’s not all though; Elta, your dragon, will be key, by giving you new unique abilities to hit harder and reach previously inaccessible locations.
The inspirations behind Elta: Defy All Gods
Veteran players will definitely catch nods to series we grew up with, like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, God of War, Darksiders, and Jak and Daxter. We take a lot of pride in honoring these classics, but we wanted to do more than just rehash them. To carve out our own identity within that familiar formula, we traded traditional weapon-based hacking and slashing for fluid, hand-to-hand martial arts. By weaving your dragon companion’s abilities right into your fights and platforming acrobatics, we hope to bring something fresh to the table. To find that specific energy, we also sought creative inspiration outside of the gaming realm entirely.
Moving to TV screens, shōnen anime, and especially Dragon Ball Z, have been a massive inspiration for us, echoing the power fantasy you can experience playing the warrior monk Victus. With such a heavy focus on melee combat, we also turned to Hong Kong martial arts movies, ranging from the Ip Man saga to Shaw Brothers’ classics. These influences have been wrapped in a painterly art direction that makes each vista look like living concept art. The sense of power you get while playing echoes the sense of scale you feel when taking in each landscape.
Reaching high ambitions as an indie team
Despite the big-budget games listed above, we are not a large studio by any means. With three co-founders and a dozen core members, delivering on this game’s promise has been a real challenge for us at Afterburner Studios. It’s one that required us to lean heavily on our background in indie development. We’ve taken lessons from our previous game into Elta, finding clever ways to achieve bigger things with our small-sized team. While we’ve stayed true to our vision of a modernized take on classic mechanics, Elta has gone through constant iteration over the course of the last five years to allow us to deliver the best versions of this game to players – both in world, gameplay and tone.
This was also made possible through a partnership with Focus Entertainment, the folks behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. By lending us their design, production, and QA experience, they allowed us to expand our vision and tackle a dream project – one that would only be possible with their support. Instead of getting slowed down by our ambitions, this fruitful partnership allowed us to double down on what we do best: crafting satisfying game feel.
Game feel as our main priority
At every stage of development, we’ve gotten the same feedback: this is a game that must be felt, controller in hand, rather than just watched. All our mechanics, in both combat and platforming, have been tuned to be as satisfying as possible. By using the haptics of the DualSense controller, landing punches and hitting platforms has a real tactile weight, resulting in a more immersive experience for PlayStation players. Ultimately, we want to create an action-packed adventure that puts fun first and continues to defy your expectations for what a small indie team can pull off.
And you don’t need to wait to try it out for yourself: our free demo is available today on PS5, allowing you to experience the very beginning of Elta: Defy All Gods. Retrieve the lost dragon-god you worship, brawl corrupted enemies in intense melee combat, and explore Lerna, a glacial world filled with hidden secrets, ancient ruins, and industrial remnants. The full game releases on February 2, 2027, and if you pre-order, you can get the Vanguard Armor, a special cosmetic skin for Victus.
Find Elta, face off against the gods and start the journey to bring salvation to your people with the free demo, available today on PlayStation 5.
Title: Return to Fabletown with The Wolf Among Us Remastered, out October 29
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 13:00:49 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/return-to-fabletown-with-the-wolf-among-us-remastered-out-october-29/
Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches October 29. To get ready for Bigby Wolf’s enhanced tale we sat down with Telltale’s Matt Saia, the game director of The Wolf Among Us Remastered, and VP of Creative at Telltale, to talk about returning to Fabletown.
The Wolf Among Us is one of Telltale’s most beloved series. Do you remember the first time you played it? What resonated most and stayed with you since?
Matt Saia: I came to it as a fan of Telltale having played The Walking Dead and Back to the Future. Wolf had a killer look and a werewolf in it, that was enough to get me in the door. From the first scene, the story, the contrast of these fables characters in the 1980s, and the neon noir style had me hooked. Their stories touched human emotions and stuck with me forever.
What was the goal with remastering The Wolf Among Us?
We wanted to honor the Telltale legacy. This is a classic title, and it needed a respectful update. We avoided touching the story, the directorial choices, and the overall art style, those are sacred to us. The goal is to introduce new players to Wolf in the best way possible and create a fun experience for returning players by packing it with updated art and behind the scenes features. Ultimately, it was a love letter to fans. We’re all fans and we took time to make sure it is the best version of The Wolf Among Us that stays true to the original.
Telltale added Noir Mode to The Wolf Among Us Remastered. What do you think this brings to the game?
Coincidentally, I was the person who added Shadows Mode to Telltale’s Batman series. We’ve treated it differently in Remastered. Unlike Batman, where we had highlights of color we’ve kept Wolf with a pure noir film vibe. The tone feels different when it’s black and white. I love the colors of the main game but, in Noir Mode, the shadows feel a little darker.
Play Video
Let’s talk about some of the technical improvements. How was it working with the original Telltale engine?
The old Telltale engine is quirky but cool. We started by moving it up to the latest engine used in the Batman series. Next, we created new shaders for things like shiny bottles, and inverted lines on moving objects like the ghost ship.
The biggest challenge was lighting. It wasn’t something we intended to do but we realized anything we changed in any scene required that we redo the lighting. By the end, every scene in the game was relit. One of the biggest testaments to how good we got with the old engine is we built the entire Summer Games Fest trailer in engine.
How about the Character art?
Our choice was to elevate the game that everybody loved. The remastered characters have amazing detail but when you look at Bigby, he looks like Bigby. I think that’s the balance beam you walk; we wanted people to say “That’s the Bigby I remember”, but if you go back and look at the original, the remastered one is unmistakably more refined.
Every single character went through concept to high-end model to final in-game model. All the textures and models are new and multiple times more detailed than the original game. If you did a simple up-rez, all you’re really doing is taking the curves and lines that are already there and making them smoother.
Our process provoked more aggressive choices with how you treat the characters without losing who they are because you’re taking them from scratch. It was a big lift, but worth it.
Is there anything from this remastering process that exceeded your expectations?
The werewolf. I think everybody wanted to change him in a big way, and we did. He is ferocious, so much more feral and powerful than the original but still true to The Wolf Among Us.
Is there anything else you’d like people to know?
It was amazing to revisit Fabletown. The team was incredible. We love every dusty apartment and lit cigarette and, more importantly, the characters and story they tell. To me, that’s what makes a great remaster; when you know people poured their soul into it.
We want existing fans to show up and know they are in good hands. For new fans, it’s an opportunity to be captivated by a fully-realized version of this amazing universe just as we all were. To everyone out there, thank you for sticking with Telltale and believing in us.
The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches October 29 and is available to wishlist now.
Title: Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches 2027, Ember Lab shares story overview
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 11:59:54 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/kena-scars-of-kosmora-launches-2027-ember-lab-shares-story-overview/
Since our announcement trailer in February, we’ve been heads down bringing Kena: Scars of Kosmora to the finish line. It’s been exciting to see all the anticipation and passion from fans. We can’t wait to share a new installment of Kena’s story with you!
At the same time, we want to deliver a top-notch game that exceeds the quality we achieved with our 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits, and at a much bigger scale. To do that we need just a bit more time. Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver. In the meantime, we wanted to share more about the world you’ll get to explore soon!
Like our first game, Kena: Scars of Kosmora is a character-focused linear adventure but with a broader and deeper scope than Bridge of Spirits. The world has much to offer for players who decide to venture out off the beaten path.
Scars – Shadows of the past
Before the events that unfold in Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Kena long studied as a Spirit Guide – equal parts warrior and spiritual healer. When the dead can’t move on peacefully, dangerous manifestations of their pain infect the environment. Spirit Guides fight back this Corruption to get to the heart of the issue.
Despite her progress, Kena is beginning to see her limits. She’s helped spirits of the dead, but has yet to really explore what Spirit Guiding looks like for the living. Even deeper, she has always helped other people deal with their pain, but not always focused on her own… Her childhood friend Orfio believes the mysterious island of Kosmora holds the answers they’ve both been looking for. Kena sets out to meet him, hoping to discover more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide.
The ancient Spirit Guides of Kosmora developed their own unique approach involving the four elements and Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived across Kosmora, each with a guiding Element that fueled its society – before a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them.
Since that time, the spiritual symbolism of the elements has faded into Kosmora’s distant past. The guiding elements still play a large role in how each surviving culture lives, but the longer that ancient wisdom remains buried, danger grows… Kosmora’s complex Spirit Guide temples are a big part of the game. These dungeon experiences will challenge players’ skills and pay off with transformative rewards that propel Kena’s adventure.
Kosmora – Living cultures
But Kosmora isn’t only about the past. The island is home to multiple living cultures with their own histories, values, and struggles. Kena’s mission to uncover how Kosmora’s past collides with characters in each region, requiring her to apply her experience and adapt to evolving situations and new personalities.

Exploring the regions of Kosmora on foot would take some time, but you may have noticed that Kena has a new way of getting around this larger world. Her crystalline canine companion is tied directly into gameplay and the origin of the mysterious island.
This ancient spirit not only serves as an exciting mount, but aids Kena in combat, both mounted and on foot, as well as solving Alchemystic puzzles. Together, our Spirit Guide and her new ally set out to heal Kena’s scars, as well as the scars that cut right to the root of Kosmora.
We hope you’re just as excited to jump into Kena’s next adventure as we are to share it with you. We’ve been working hard to fill it with the wonder, charm, and challenge fans have come to expect. We appreciate your patience and support as we take the time for Scars of Kosmora to be the evolution of Kena’s journey and experience we want to deliver.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora releases in 2027 on PS5 (physical & digital) and PC (digital). Wishlist today.

Title: RetroSpace offers a huge sci-fi playground for inquisitive space janitors, but I'm not that System Shocked by the tools at your disposal

In my time as a videogame partaker, I have crawled through approximately three billion airvents. I may well have crawled through more vents than you've had hot dinners. As such, any videogame that can get me excited about loosening a barred hatch and hauling my heavy ass into a square tunnel is doing something right.
The Wild Gentlemen's new sci-fi immersive sim RetroSpace gives pretty fair vent. It hides them all over. You'll walk along a dilapidated, meandering corridor and your eye will be caught by a certain combination of shadows, flirtatiously screened by pipes. 'Can I fit behind there?' You ask yourself, and lo, you have revealed a shortcut to the head engineer's office. Elsewhere, switches peek from behind stacks of luggable crates, and bent guard-rails draw your eye to a footwide ledge leading around the next pillar.
In general, RetroSpace does a nice job of squirrelling secrets into even the smallest chambers, and if the secret is very often a "rocket doughnut" or other inventory-clogging flotsam, sensing the prize and snuffling after it is a thrill. I hope the thrill will intensify as RetroSpace goes on, perhaps leaving a few of its obvious influences behind.

Title: Control Resonant's New Game++ update also squashes some of my least favourite bugs, including the one where magic doors change my trousers

Trippy hack 'n' slash sequel (and, for the benefit of anyone planning for this year’s Advent Calendar guessing game in the RPS Discord, my current second-favouritest game of 2026) Control Resonant has a big old update out today. As declassified by Remedy, it not only adds the pledged New Game++ mode for plus-deficient game replayers, but makes absolutely bloody loads of smaller bug fixes and quality of life tweaks.

Title: I'm not sure the "AI" in my chair's lumbar support actually counts as AI, but it has been smart enough to fix up my spine

AI is everywhere, exhausting to keep up with, and increasingly perceived as harmful to games. But that’s mostly generative AI; the more limited, less media-scraping and energy-hungry breeds of artificial intelligence can still play a harmless, maybe even useful role, especially on the hardware side. Even if it finds itself in some unexpected places, as is the case with HBADA’s X7 chair.
While AI-powered lumbar support sounds like the kind of gimmicky nonsense that’s become all too common in 2026, I’ve been using an X7 for a week, and it’s... surprisingly effective? To the point where it’s literally changed my spine for the better, helping to deal with my recurring back pain and posture issues. It’s been a very pleasant surprise.

Title: Capcom aren't just running out of Resident Evil games to remake - they're banking on it, with a mysterious "crossover" planned when the timelines collide
Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 12:40:00 +0000

Capcom have done a brisk trade in Resident Evil remakes this past decade. They've gone back to formula with Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4, not just bumping up the resolution and revarnishing the cutscenes, but writing new variations on the old survival horror fables. There's a Resident Evil: Code Veronica regurgitation due in 2027, and a Resident Evil 0 resurrection allegedly to follow in 2028.
The problems with this strategy are perhaps expressed by my previous sentence's struggle to come up with extra synonyms for "remake": sooner or later, Capcom are going to run out of original games they can credibly overhaul. Including the forthcoming or rumoured projects, they've only got Resident Evils 5 and 6 left now before they hit the "modern era" inaugurated by Resident Evil 7, the game that introduced the fancy RE Engine used by the remakes.
