Title: CoD: Modern Warfare 4 Beta May Include A New Warzone Map
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 14:43:44 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cod-modern-warfare-4-beta-may-include-a-new-warzone-map/
Modern Warfare 4's first beta session arrives next week to let players get hands-on time with this year's new game. Call of Duty betas typically only include multiplayer content, but the official social media account is hinting at a potential Warzone Resurgence map for beta testing as well.
The latest episode of Infinity Ward's "From The Ward" docuseries was geared toward the new Kill Block multiplayer map shown at Fanatics Fest, but fans have spotted a teaser for an upcoming Warzone Resurgence map with the codename "Zodiac." As players questioned online when this map could potentially get announced, an official Call of Duty account replied by saying, "Find out in....beta?"
https://twitter.com/CallofDutyCM/status/2086980684346806348
This tease doesn't give us a lot of details, but new Call of Duty games typically integrate a new Warzone map and content with the first seasonal update, which usually arrives a month or two after the game's launch. We'll likely get more information about this mysterious Zodiac map and the future of Warzone on August 21 with Call of Duty: Next, which is Activision's annual event to showcase upcoming games.
There will be a few opportunities to play the Modern Warfare 4 beta, with the first beta session going live on August 21 directly after the Call of Duty: Next presentation. The initial content confirmed for the Modern Warfare 4 beta includes various multiplayer maps and game modes. Players will also be able to unlock up to 19 different weapons during the beta, giving them a feel for the arsenal that will be available with the launch of Modern Warfare 4. If Warzone is included in the beta, this will be a first for Call of Duty's battle royale.
In addition to multiplayer content, Modern Warfare 4 also launches with a full campaign and the return of Infinity Ward's DMZ extraction mode from the Modern Warfare 2 reboot.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.

Title: Star Wars Zero Company Is Good But Seems To Play Things Too Safe
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 14:00:00 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-zero-company-is-good-but-seems-to-play-things-too-safe/
I'm a bit bummed that I don't like Star Wars Zero Company more than I do. The upcoming turn-based-tactics game is set during my absolute favorite moment in the Star Wars' timeline, The Clone Wars, and games that are just like it--like XCOM: Chimera Squad and Marvel's Midnight Suns--are some of my most-played games in recent years. If pressed, I'd tell you that Zero Company is a good game (or at least, the four hours of it I've played are good). But of what I've seen so far, there's nothing about the game that makes it really stand out from its peers. Zero Company seems to play things too safe, sticking to a tried-and-true formula that works.
Zero Company has you play as Hawks, a former military officer who is now leading the titular squad, a group of operatives who engage in all types of missions for credits. In missions, you command Hawks and several teammates (typically three others) through turn-based battles, directing how each operator uses their three action points per turn to move through a firefight and shoot enemy soldiers. Squadmates possess unique abilities that allow them to specialize in specific combat roles as well, and all share a pool of cumulating points that can be spent at any time to unleash a character's specific powerful attack, like firing a rocket launcher.
If you've played an XCOM game, you already know what you're signing up for. Zero Company plays pretty much exactly like one, which is no surprise since the Bit Reactor team is founded and composed of folks who worked on the XCOM games. Now, I like XCOM. I've enjoyed playing the XCOM games. If we were to get another XCOM game, I'd want it to play like XCOM. But even with all that said, I do wish that Zero Company felt a bit more than just XCOM with Star Wars painted over it. The game is its own thing--it should feel like its own thing.
And to reiterate: Of what I've played, Zero Company is good. But I look at other games that are similar to XCOM, like Midnight Suns, and I'm disappointed Zero Company doesn't do more to distinguish itself from what came before. Midnight Suns, for example, ditched using a percentage chance to hit enemies to instead rely on a system of deck-building and knocking enemies into other characters and environmental hazards. It maintained that sense of randomness and strategy that is crucial to the XCOM games, but carved its own identity to feel like a distinct experience. From what I've seen of Zero Company, it doesn't do anything to separate itself from the pack. It entirely relies upon what is already known to be good. Which is fine! I do realize that my disappointment is entirely based on my own hopes and expectations.
It's also entirely possible that I just did not have a chance to see whatever evolution to the tactics-game formula Zero Company will make. Even after playing the game for four hours, I was still getting tutorials, unlocking more mechanics and features, and recruiting more characters. So even though I played the game for quite a while, it still felt like I was in the tutorial section. Once the main story gets past all the set-up, it's possible some mechanic or feature will be introduced that transforms the experience in a way I've yet to see in a tactics game.
"Having worked on both XCOM games, [there's] a little bit of a legacy," Bit Reactor co-founder, CEO, and creative director Greg Foertsch told me. "And so, coming at it from more of an artist's approach, it's kind of like you have a short memory. Like the last thing I painted is the last thing I painted, and the next thing I paint, I hope to be better. And so, halfway through [the next thing], you might question it, but you know that every time you pick up a paintbrush that the next thing you do is going to be better than the last thing. So for [Zero Company], yeah, there's some familiar stuff and it's great, but it's just as great to push the genre forward."
"From somebody who didn't work on XCOM or a tactical strategy game before--this is my first tactical strategy game--there's the lineage of the dev team and what they know [to consider], and it makes sense to use the muscles you've trained and to follow up with a pattern that people want," Bit Reactor narrative director Aaron Contreras added.
"[And] then you also look at what's happening in the tactical strategy space and what you want to adapt and bring in some flavors from stuff that's happened outside of what you've done in the past since it's fresh. And you look at the limitations of what you're able to do between time and budget and ask, 'What is the team strong at? What is this group of people able to do? What didn't we get a chance to do on the last game that we did in this genre?'"
According to Foertsch and Contreras, the Star Wars element is the "x factor" of Zero Company. That's the element that's going to help the game stand out from the likes of XCOM, as the theming of Star Wars' narrative will emphasize certain aspects of Zero Company's design that were deemphasized in XCOM and titles like it.
And to be fair, I do think the setting, story, and characters could be where Zero Company surprises me the most. While the gameplay feels quite familiar to other tactics games four hours in, I was surprised by just how much Zero Company puts an emphasis on story and characters.
Between missions, you'll return to your team's hub and as Hawks, you can walk around and talk to your squadmates, as well as listen in to their conversations between each other. It has a very returning-to-Garreg-Mach-Monastery or hanging-in-the-Abbey feel, like in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Midnight Suns, respectively.
"I think the hub came from Greg's design to have the third-person explorable sequences in specific missions," Contreras said. "So we had that mode in and we were going to support it, and then if you have that, you already have everything you need to move around a hub [area] in third person."
In my time with the game, not every character grabbed my attention, but two or three did interest me enough to keep coming back to over and over between missions. Your squadmates have their own feelings toward Hawks, which can improve by doing missions for them or by agreeing with their moral stance on an issue during points in the game where you have to make decisions. They can also change between each other depending on how often you team them up or command them to aid each other in battle.
"That's a way we can give you an experience that isn't common in tactical strategy," Contreras continued. "And then from a narrative perspective, we have a bond system--which came from the design team, like that was an existing [feature], a notion that what makes Zero Company a unit and our own unique thing--that we're really pushing. In the design of the game, the relationships between these different heroes, these operators, makes the team mechanically stronger."
"So [since] that's very important to the mechanics of the game, you want to realize that in the hub space as well, so that as a player with permadeath, you're bonding with all these characters, [and] when they die or they grow, all those things are feeding each other."
"It feels right for this game and it feels like a new way to transition that's very different from how a lot of these games in the past approach a series of systems that they try to wrap stories around," Foertsch added. "We've woven a story all through the systems and vice versa in some cases, so it feels much more holistic and connected than I think our previous work."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWSqVggKhFY
I didn't see much of that in my time with that game, but that system of interconnectivity is what I'm most interested in seeing. While the game sees the squad fighting on the side of the Galactic Republic against the Separatist Alliance, the make-up of the squad includes former Republic soldiers, ex-Seperatist loyalists, and criminals and bounty hunters who don't care about either side. There's even a noblewoman who is simply aiding the squad in an effort to reclaim control of a planet that once belonged to her family. Zero Company could tackle one of the most politically charged moments in Star Wars lore in a way we haven't really seen in Star Wars video games before, but have seen in the books and TV shows. It really all comes down to the writing for the conversations between squadmates, and how well the changing relationships between characters could affect the overall narrative.
And, of course, it matters how well the story can still be told with permadeath on the table. Squad-based games with excellent character-driven stories usually work because there's no way for the members of the squad to die until the end. Unless you specifically turn permadeath off, every character in Zero Company can die, save for Hawks. I don't mind that at all. The challenge of keeping a squad alive from beginning to end is usually a thrill in these games, and makes the pain of every lost operator hit even harder. But what I'm worried about is the story. If Zero Company does deliver a good, character-driven story, does it still do so if some of the main characters die early? Because the randomly generated characters that you can recruit don't seem to have enough of a personality to fit into any narrative holes that the death of an authored operator would create.
"Hawks' story has a strong arc," Contreras said. "Whoever your Hawks is, they sort of go on this journey through to the end of it that's relatively consistent from playthrough to playthrough. Where we put the emphasis for Zero Company into choice and consequences is in the composition of your team. It's the fantasy of 'What does your team look like at the end of that journey? Did you build up these relationships? Did you take your Clone Trooper and your Umbaran--cats and dogs [even] when working together--and did you make them buddies, or did you let them stay at odds? Did you only roll with Astromec [droids]? Did you lean one way or another politically? How did your choices during Dilemmas go?' That's where a lot of the variety happens over the course of the game, [as well as] how your team ends up at the end of it."
We really won't have that long to wait to see how the game ultimately shakes out. Star Wars Zero Company is scheduled to launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on August 27.
Title: How Students Can Get GTA 6 For $64
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 13:22:12 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-students-can-get-gta-6-for-64/
Rockstar's GTA 6 is priced at $80 for the standard edition, but if you're a student who shops at Target and you meet certain eligibility requirements, you can potentially get the game for a nice discount.
Target Circle Students members can save 20% on the game's code-in-the-box version, bringing it down to $64 before taxes. Buying the game now via preordering also gets you perks like the Vintage Vice City Pack and a free month of GTA+. The deal was spotted by Wario64.
Target Circle is free. But to get the deal, you need to verify that you are actually a student, which involves submitting a school-issued document confirming enrollment.
Do that, and you should be eligible for the Target Circle Student offer on GTA 6 for either PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6's $100 edition is not available in stores, so if you want that version, you have to pay full price for a digital copy.
Get GTA 6 at Target
GTA 6's $80 price point is fair for what's being offered, Take-Two has said. It's $10 more than the going rate for other AAA games, but one stock analyst believes Rockstar going with $80 may help encourage other developers to follow suit. It's also not the first high-profile $80 game, as Nintendo charges $80 for Mario Kart World.
For comparison, GTA 5’s base edition launched in 2013 at $60. That same amount of money in 2026 dollars would be more than $85 due to inflation.
GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It's expected to be 2026's biggest hit and one of the most successful games ever.
Title: Saber Interactive’s New Taxi Game Is Beefing With Randy Pitchford
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 12:57:57 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/saber-interactives-new-taxi-game-is-beefing-with-randy-pitchford/
Last week's announcement of the Uber-like Ride Stimulator might have flown under your radar, but in case you missed it, you also missed out on a not-so-subtle dig at Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. According to Saber Interactive boss Matt Karch, the company is publishing the game. The reveal trailer for the game does indeed include a dig at Pitchford's infamous flash drive incident and his passion for stage magic.
At one point in the trailer, you can see a car license plate with "USB DRV" on it, alongside a reference to the US state of Texas. A voiceover in the trailer also mentions having met "the randiest of passengers" and taking passengers to a "castle" in town. Karch confirmed that these are all digs at Pitchford and the Texas-based Gearbox, referencing how the studio allegedly fired a few shots at its former owner, Embracer Group, in Borderlands 4.
Rideshare Stimulator
Saber Interactive was also previously owned by Embracer Group, but the two parted ways after a group of private investors purchased the game developer in 2024. Karch, who previously served on the board of directors at Embracer, has been a staunch supporter of the embattled company since his exit.
"The dig is because Randy took shots at Embracer in Borderlands 4," Karch said to Game File. "Without Embracer, Randy is performing magic tricks at birthday parties for a living. It’s amazing to me how fast people forget those who went above and beyond for them."
Embracer Group acquired Gearbox in 2021, but they later sold it to Take-Two Interactive in 2024 for $460 million. When Gearbox released Borderlands 4 in 2025, players could find a small rundown town called Embracer's Bluff, which was thought to be the studio poking fun at its former owner. While the developer never confirmed this, Embracer's Bluff did include jokes thought to be at Embracer's expense. The "castle" reference likely alludes to Pitchford's 2022 purchase of Hollywood's Magic Castle, while the USB drive refers to the thumb drive that Pitchford lost at a restaurant several years ago.
Not only did the USB drive reportedly contain confidential information, but it also allegedly had "barely legal pornography" on it. While Pitchford has been a controversial figure as the public face of Gearbox Entertainment, he still has supporters.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick commented last year on how much he respects Pitchford's personality and passion, even suggesting that some of Pitchford's capers might be done on purpose.

Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 14:00:12 GMT
Link: https://www.polygon.com/star-wars-zero-company-preview/
You play as Hawks, leader of a ragtag band called Zero Company. It's a group of misfits (what other kind of group could there be in a Star Wars story?) that takes on odd jobs across the galaxy for pay. That would be great, except clients aren't rolling in money amid the Clone Wars, when Zero Company takes place. So Hawks and co. find themselves in a tight spot — which is how they end up covertly working with the Galactic Republic.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW
Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/
Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all.
With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.
When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
From A+ to AAA Gaming
This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming.
With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks.
The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead.
The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own.
A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too.
Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices.
Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way.
Everyone, at Their Stations
Needlers never looked so sharp.
Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.”
Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play.
Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan.
From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission.
Let’s Play Today

Lock in and load up the cloud. GFN Thursday brings fresh updates and new adventures, all ready to play without waiting for downloads.
Set sail in Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame and charge in Battlefield 6 Season 4 both launching major content for members this week.
Then revisit Capcom legends like Breath of Fire IV, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved Advanced Access and discover nine titles arriving on GeForce NOW.
The Curse Calls
Prepare to brave the unforgiving waters of Wraeclast. Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame launches Friday, July 24, sending Exiles into the perilous Frozen Seas.
Guided by formidable corsair captain Valerie and her cursed navigator Vesper, gamers must piece together scattered treasure charts, board the legendary vessel — the Sovereign — and chart a course into the abyss. Descend into the depths using Allflame Lanterns to uncover valuable relics while surviving the dangers lurking beneath the waves.
The update introduces sweeping changes, including a complete rework of sockets and links. The Scion also gains the all-new Luminary Ascendancy, the Mercenaries of Trarthus return alongside mysterious Atlas Anomalies, and the preexisting Abyss, Legion and Talisman mechanics receive revitalized gameplay and exclusive rewards.
GeForce NOW members can dive in the moment it launches across their devices, no downloads needed. Learn more about the latest additions on the Path of Exile website.
Rise Through the Ranks
The next operation begins.
Battlefield 6 takes the fight further with Season 4, bringing new battlegrounds, expanded progression and new ways to play.
Take to the land, air and sea with the massive Tsuru Reef and the return of the fan-favorite Wake Island, coming in phase two. Both feature aircraft carriers with operational flight decks, new naval vehicles and a dynamic wave system that helps move every match. The update also introduces Custom Lobbies and Spectator Mode, delivering more ways to play.
From large-scale multiplayer battles to intense vehicle combat, GeForce NOW lets members deploy across nearly any device. Ultimate members can stream with GeForce RTX 5080-powered performance across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more.
Whether returning to the frontlines or enlisting for the first time, members can leap into the latest Battlefield update the moment it arrives on GeForce NOW — without waiting for patches.
Dragons and Dinosaurs — on Any Device
Classic adventures, now in the cloud.
Three iconic Capcom adventures arrive on GeForce NOW this week, ready for longtime fans to revisit and new players to discover.
Journey through the rich fantasy world of Breath of Fire IV, a role-playing game following the intertwining stories of Ryu and Fou-Lu. Master an array of skills and magic to unlock strategic victories in battle and go head to head with unique enemies using powerful Dragon Transformations.
Raw instinct takes over in Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, the survival-horror series that combines pulse-pounding action, resource management and thrilling dinosaur encounters. Pursued by a relentless prehistoric terror, players fight to survive from the facility to the world of the Cretaceous Period.
Whether reliving unforgettable moments or discovering these legendary titles for the first time, gamers on GeForce NOW can experience gaming history on supported devices like Chromebooks, Fire TV and Steam Deck — no legacy hardware required.
Spartans — Start Early
Spartans don’t have to wait. Players who prepurchase the Premium Edition of Halo: Campaign Evolved can suit up for Advanced Access before the game’s global launch on Tuesday, July 28.
Start the weekend with all the new games arriving on GeForce NOW:
ZeroSpace (New release on Steam, available July 20)
The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian (New release on Steam, available July 20)
The Planet Crafter (New release on Xbox, available on Game Pass July 21)

Dinoblade (New release on Steam, available on July 23)

Title: GeForce NOW Turns Up the Heat With New GeForce RTX 5080-Powered Toronto Server
Date: Thu, 09 Jul 2026 13:00:55 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-toronto-expansion/
This GFN Thursday brings more games, more power and more ways to play on GeForce NOW.
The cloud gaming service is expanding with a new GeForce RTX 5080-powered server in Toronto, bringing dedicated high performance in the cloud closer to members across the region.
NTE: Neverness to Everness also gets an update in the cloud, making it even easier to jump into the latest content from the supernatural adventure without a single download or more storage space needed. It leads the way for GeForce NOW bringing native touch control to the game, coming soon.
There’s even more to explore with three new games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
Take It to the Next Level in Toronto
The forecast is looking cloudy in Canada.
A new GeForce RTX 5080-powered GeForce NOW server is coming to Toronto, expanding service in the region and bringing dedicated cloud gaming performance closer to local members. The new server will roll out within days, giving more players access to top-tier cloud gaming across Canada.
Ultimate members can stream across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce RTX 5080-class power in the cloud. Enjoy up to 4K resolution and beyond on supported ultrawide displays, up to 120 frames per second, plus NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies.
Bring on the ‘999 Nights’
Reality bends — on any device.
Step into the surreal world of NTE: Neverness to Everness with the NTE Version 1.2 “999 Nights” update.
This version introduces a massive gameplay evolution, plunging players into an immersive, tabletop-inspired fantasy role-playing game on the Warren Continent — a new permanent game mode featuring its own dedicated progression system.
This narrative and mechanical expansion is elevated by the debut of two powerful characters, Shinku and Iroi, alongside an unprecedented fashion upgrade featuring a sweeping collection of 19 new character outfits.
To top it off, exploration gets a high-octane upgrade with Draco, a revolutionary new motorcycle vehicle, making this version an absolute playground for combat strategy, stylish customization and high-speed urban traversal.
Plus, GeForce NOW will soon be rolling out native touch controls to NTE: Neverness to Everness, which will make it even easier to explore the city’s mysteries from supported mobile devices.
Look for the game in the GeForce NOW app to seamlessly jump between devices and continue the adventure — no downloads, storage space or expensive additional hardware required.
Embark on Expanded Adventures
The journey continues in Granblue Fantasy: Relink with the Endless Ragnarok expansion. Known for its dynamic combat, diverse roster of Skyfarers and thrilling online co-op, Relink returns with fresh story content as mysterious beings known as the Ragnalia threaten the Zegagrande Skydom. Strange gateways, powerful new foes — including the mighty Beelzebub — and fresh challenges await across the skies.
The expansion also introduces additional ways to play, including summon abilities that add another layer of combat strategy, co-op quest tiers and a solo mode filled with unpredictable encounters. Master traits offer more opportunities to customize favorite characters, giving both longtime Skyfarers and newcomers plenty of reasons to take flight.
Jump into the latest action with the following games to play this week:
Esports Manager 2026 (New release on Steam, available July 6)
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (New release on Steam and Ubisoft Connect, available July 9)
Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok Demo (Steam)
As GeForce NOW continues to expand, so does the community discovering cloud gaming.
One new Ultimate member summed up their first impressions:
“Finally caved and got GFN Ultimate… and wow.”
Another longtime PC gamer shared how GeForce NOW completely changed their perspective after years of skepticism, calling it “a good alternative” for casual players and encouraging others to “try the one month and upgrade to the yearly before the sale ends.”

Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/11/first-look-at-marvels-wolverine-limited-edition-ps5-console-bundle-and-accessories/
Last month, the team at Insomniac Games and Marvel Games shared lots of new details and reveals at San Diego Comic-Con for Marvel’s Wolverine. Inspired by Insomniac’s Battle Reborn suit and claws, the PS5 Digital Edition – Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle will be available globally and channels Logan’s unmistakable intensity through a bold yellow finish. The design brings in Wolverine’s exposed claw marks and lets players peek under the hood of the PS5 Digital Edition and see what’s underneath. The DualSense wireless controller also features furious slashes inspired by his famous claws, giving players a striking way to bring the game into the palm of their hands.
The DualSense Wireless Controller – Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition will also be available for standalone purchase globally.
It was important for us to capture the primal energy of Wolverine in this new look for the PS5 console, and it has been fantastic collaborating with Insomniac Games and Marvel Games on the design. We worked alongside Jock, the Scottish graphic artist who contributed to the key art for Marvel’s Wolverine and whose work across comics helped inspire the bold, graphic tone of this limited edition design:
“I wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console bundle and accessories. I still draw all my artwork traditionally, so the opportunity to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I’m stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, bringing Wolverine to life in a completely unique way. ”
– Jock, Graphic Artist
“His [Jock] illustrative works have the energy and dynamics needed to capture the kinetic and violent nature of our hero. One whose primary interaction with the world is with unbreakable Adamantium claws. Jock’s illustrations are grounded and raw and perfectly personify Wolverine.”
– Marcus Smith, Insomniac Games

Title: No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games celebrates 10-year anniversary
Date: Mon, 10 Aug 2026 15:00:33 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/10/no-mans-sky-developer-hello-games-celebrates-10-year-anniversary/
I feel surprisingly emotional today. Ten years ago, on 9th August 2016, PlayStation Travellers across the universe set foot on their first alien planet in No Man’s Sky.
The first words from their exosuit rang out in their helmet: “Hazard protection active”.
Perhaps you were there ten years ago, or perhaps you joined later. All around the universe, other Travellers have woken up on countless other planets, light years apart from each other. They took their first steps on their first planet and brought a new unexplored universe into existence together.Since then, millions of players have made No Man’s Sky their home, built insane bases, built communities, made friends, and created custom ships that look like everything from Spongebob Squarepants to entire Cathedrals.
Play Video
Over the last decade, the No Man’s Sky players have joined us in another type of journey as we grew, expanded and deepened what No Man’s Sky could be. With now 40 major updates, all free, we have expanded our sandbox universe with base-building, exocraft, settlements, mechs, pets, living ships, expeditions and rebuilt the universe several times over. On PlayStation we introduced support for PSVR, then PS5, and then PSVR2. Allowing players to immerse themselves in the universe in much deeper ways.
PlayStation Travellers have been there since the dawn of this new universe; it’s kind of our Big Bang moment! Since then, tens of millions of Travellers have spent hundreds of millions of hours exploring and sharing their discoveries and the universe is more vibrant now than it ever has been. Voyagers released last year saw more players than we’ve had since launch… and still, all these years later players have explored less than 1% of the planets in No Man’s Sky.In a similar way our small team feels we have a lot left to explore in what No Man’s Sky can be. In the background we are busy cooking on our next game Light No Fire, and big things for the future of No Man’s Sky. More will follow! Our journey continues.

Title: Celebrate 30 years of Quake with a brand-new episode, available today
Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 18:15:30 +0000

In 1996, id Software smashed through to another dimension – in one sense of the word, pioneering first-person shooters in the third dimension with the release of Quake, and in another, hurtling players feet-first into Quake’s otherworldly realm – a place beyond our reality where kinetic combat and a moody eldritch setting took FPS players to new heights.
30 years later, Quake has inspired countless hours played and frags tallied locally or online in Deathmatch, not to mention real-world connections and a major role in the rise of FPS esports with QuakeCon, North America’s largest LAN party (also celebrating the big 3-0 this year!). To ring in the 30th anniversary of Quake, just in time for the 30th anniversary of QuakeCon, MachineGames, in collaboration with id Software, return to bring you a brand-new episode for the iconic FPS:

Available today as a free update for Quake on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Dawn of the Machine features a full 19-map campaign accompanied by a brand-new soundtrack and Deathmatch map.
Dawn of the Machine is a celebration of Quake’s history and influence on the developers at MachineGames and id Software. Following the team’s work on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants DLC, Lead Level Designer Andrew Yoder at MachineGames approached the studio’s Game Director Jerk Gusfafsson about an expansion for Quake. Gustafsson, Yoder and the rest of the team that worked on similar projects – dubbed internally as Quake Club – set forth three major goals for what would become Dawn of the Machine.
First and foremost, of course, was celebrating Quake’s 30th anniversary. “We wanted to create something that felt authentic to the spirit of the original game: Horror! Action! Madness!” says Yoder. As such, players will face deadly twists on familiar entries from Quake bestiary such as the Rocket Ogre, Demo Dog, and Blood Shambler, rising to the challenge with new weapon variants like ricochet-blasting Laser Cannon and the lightning-infused Super Axe for classic, fast-paced Quake carnage.
The second goal the team pursued was giving veteran Quake players a new experience. Previous Quake episodes released by MachineGames alongside id Software, such as Call of the Machine and Dimension of the Machine, featured a traditional hub structure which reset the player’s progression between major areas. Instead, Dawn of the Machine has players battle through a continuous episode with continuous progression, which according to Yoder provided the team with “a challenge, requiring much more coordination and iteration to create.”
To set the stage for its design, Dawn of the Machine has players back in the boots of Quake’s battle-hardened protagonist Ranger as he escapes an illusory dimension where time folds back onto itself. As the looping cycle of time progresses, so too will players as they discover ways to break the loop, uncover upgrades to their health and ammunition supplies and eventually take down The Nightmare Machine, the source of Ranger’s planar prison. “Nothing you see can be trusted,” says Yoder, “but there is a path to break through the illusion, defeat the schemes of the outer gods and escape.”
An early boss battle concept (left), plus early level plans (right) for what would become The Matriarch of Decay. Both underwent significant iteration during the production of Dawn of the Machine.
The third goal in developing Dawn of the Machine was allowing the multifaceted and multitalented team at MachineGames and id Software to exercise their skills collaboratively on a smaller project compared to a modern AAA video game project. Some members of the Quake Club have made their own maps since the game’s release in ‘96 while others, including Yoder, have joined in more recently, making Quake Club a place for anyone on the team to contribute something to the project.
“Quake Club has always been an opportunity for the team to learn and have fun,” says Yoder, adding that high-quality modding tools and Quake’s relative visual simplicity to the photorealism of modern day AAA titles allow team members to pitch in their expertise, even for tasks normally outside their area of specialization.
As one example, Dawn of the Machine’s new soundtrack came about from an offer from Christian Plogfors, Advanced Level Designer at MachineGames. In addition to contributing two levels to the episode, Plogfors created a soundtrack with a dark, ambient tone expertly suited to the trippy, ethereal world of the expansion. “Christian proceeded to make a fantastic set of tracks that give the episode its own identity,” says Yoder. “The whole episode is so much stronger thanks to his contribution, stepping outside his normal role and bringing his other skills and passions to serve the project.”
Reflecting on 30 years of Quake, Yoders says the opportunity to make Dawn of the Machine has been a privilege. “The team here owes a lot to Quake and its legacy,” he says, “Quake Club and our work wouldn’t exist without the wider Quake community and our friends at id Software.”

Title: "Time will tell": Bit Reactor talk queerness in Star Wars: Zero Company and whether they'll keep working with Saudi-owned EA

In Bit Reactor's XCOM-style tactics RPG Star Wars: Zero Company, you play a custom character called Hawks who is referred to using they/them pronouns. With my armchair producer hat on, I suspect this is partly just a way to avoid recording several sets of voice lines for different player pronoun choices. But Zero Company as a whole does support expressions of gender that differ from heteronormative male and female archetypes – or at least, which differ enough to make me, a cisgender writer, curious about expressions of queerness and transness elsewhere in Star Wars.
While creating a character for the beta, I wondered about how notions of gender might differ across the humanoid species depicted in the game, including Mirialans, Devaronians and Togrutas. In the end, I created a Devaronian character with green hair and copious freckles, whom I would gingerly designate as "Trying Their Best".

Title: Knytt, one of 2006's most charming indie platformers, has a surprise Steam re-release - and it’s still free

2006 saw, among such other major events as analogue TV being switched off in Luxembourg, the release of Knytt: a breezy freeware platformer in which you spend a nice couple of hours gathering up parts for your crashed spaceship. While not entirely devoid of light peril, so tranquil and airily atmospheric was Knytt’s run-and-jumpery that someone once asked, among these very pages, whether you could consider it a walking simulator.
Solo dev Nifflas has long since moved on, but Knytt itself has just been reborn as Knytt Classic: a "pixel-perfect port" for modern hardware, developed by Wolfhound makers Bit Kid and freshly launched on Steam. Still for free, of course, and with Nifflas’ blessing.

Title: Mortal Shell 2 will let you lower its difficulty by making executions refill your health, or up the challenge by turning off the sun

While Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 doesn't feature traditional difficulty modes, developers
Cold Symmetry have included a set of special items that let you tweak the challenge to your liking.
As someone who just got back from a three-day cycle trip with friends who coasted up the hills on bikes fitted with fancy 12-speed rear cassettes loaded with extra, larger gear cogs, while I huffed and puffed on my 11-speed, this is an approach to difficulty I both recognise and envy.

Title: Stop Killing Games join lawsuit against the PlayStation Store's "Sony Tax," in latest venture beyond game preservation
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 10:42:49 +0000

"It’s time to sue Sony," game preservation advocates Stop Killing Games have declared, as the group throws its weight behind a Dutch lawsuit targeting the PlayStation Store’s alleged monopoly and "Sony Tax" on digital games.
While the case originated back in 2024, as part of an effort by Dutch consumer group Stichting Massaschade & Consument, the core complaint – that Sony wields monopoly power by only making digital PlayStation games available through its own store – has been compounded by the recent reveal that Sony plans to ditch physical games entirely in 2028, effectively cutting out its only source of competition. Allegedly. For Stop Killing Games, it’s also the latest in a string of non-preservation-specific causes the organisation have amplified, possibly indicating a widened advocacy mandate after failing its key goal of securing new European Commission legislation to keep discontinued games playable offline.

Title: Shipping ore between the asteroid mining stations of Profits 2167 would be much easier if it weren't for the darn space bug infestation

After a 90-second electrical fault left me stuck for two hours at Wilmslow station this weekend, I could be fooled into thinking trains are delicate fickle things. However, PROFITS 2167: Planetary Resource Optimization & Freight Infrastructure Technician Simulator is here to set me straight. The game puts you in the driver's seat on a train rattling along the tracks of a deep space mining operation. A mining operation under assault from thousands of space bugs.
Avanti West Coast might struggle on hot days (and cold days, and wet days, and windy days…), but when you're behind the wheel of Profits 2167's locomotive, you'll have to plough straight through the swarming insect masses.
