Title: Fortnite’s New Gaming Battle Pass Only Has One Gaming Collab Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 21:24:52 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/fortnites-new-gaming-battle-pass-only-has-one-gaming-collab/ The official Fortnite Twitter account appeared to unveil the battle pass lineup for its upcoming retro-gaming-themed season on Monday morning. But, even though the season trailer teased several new collab skins from other video games--like Crash Bandicoot and Mega Man--it looks the Chapter 7 Season 4 battle pass will have Sonic the Hedgehog as its only collab skin when the new season kicks off on Thursday. It is possible, and maybe even likely, that Epic Games is holding something. The current battle pass, for Chapter 7 Season 3, included a Simpsons-fied version of John Wick that remained secret until the back half of the season. Even if that ends up being the case, it's very unusual for Epic to promote a new season of Fortnite primarily using collaboration skins that won't be on the battle pass. The only previous time Epic did something like this was for 2025's Star Wars mini-season, but that season's pass still included three Star Wars character skins. Aside from Sonic himself, the Chapter 7 Season 4 key art includes teases for Dr. Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Joker from Persona, a deer from a Roblox game, Pac-Man, and Spyro the Dragon. Since Spyro and Pac-Man are likely sidekicks, it's still possible one or both could be included in the pass. You should expect plenty of other new collabs to pop up as well, especially with Fortnitemares taking place during the season. All that whining aside, the Chapter 7 Season 4 battle pass still has some real gems on it. Aside from Sonic, the highlights are Wrixel and Mali. Mali is a fighting game character who has a pixelated style that makes her look like she was ripped straight out of Virtua Fighter. And Wrixel is a block person, a la Minecraft or Roblox, who can be customized in the styles for several Fortnite characters, like Jonesy. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, dubbed Override, begins on Thursday, August 20.
Title: An Exclusive Castlevania Game Is Shutting Down Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 20:48:15 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/an-exclusive-castlevania-game-is-shutting-down/ The Apple Arcade-exclusive Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls won't be playable for much longer, developer Konami has announced. In a post on social media and the game's official website, Konami confirmed Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will be removed from Apple's gaming subscription service on August 20. Despite Konami stating the game has "continued to be supported by many players," it will also shut down permanently and no longer be playable on September 3.  "We would like to express our gratitude to all of our players for their enthusiastic support throughout the years," Konami said. "The entire development and operations team sincerely thanks you for being part of this journey." https://twitter.com/Konami/status/2089398860447695213?s=20 Konami didn't give any real reason for the decision. Originally released in 2019, Grimoire of Souls was removed from mobile storefronts and then re-released as an Apple Arcade exclusive in September 2021 with a number of improvements, including the removal of various microtransactions. At the time of its release, Grimoire of Souls was the first new Castlevania game since 2014's Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2. Its story concluded back in 2022 with an update that provided new revelations related to Dracula's defeat in 1990's Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. Despite being on mobile, Grimoire of Souls is in many ways a traditional 2D Castlevania game, featuring character designs from longtime franchise artist Ayami Kojima and music from Michiru Yamane. Many franchise fan-favorites, including Alucard and Simon Belmont, are playable characters, and the game even supports multiplayer co-op.  One look at the comments about the game's shutdown on X or its launch trailer on YouTube shows there is definitely an appetite for Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls to be ported to consoles or PC. Whether its removal from Apple Arcade means Konami may eventually sell it on other platforms remains to be seen. Thankfully, Castlevania fans don't have to wait long for a new entry in the series. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, from the makers of the critically acclaimed Dead Cells and The Rogue Prince of Persia, is coming this December. Despite the developer's roguelite pedigree, Belmont's Curse will be a Castlevania game in the classic style, according to Konami.

All this week, we'll be publishing assorted features looking at how we got here--why are consoles so expensive, what goes into game pricing--and ways in which you can play more while spending less, be it through mods, libraries, or games that just don't cost an arm and a leg. Check back with this page as we publish more all throughout the week! Why Are Video Game Consoles So Expensive These Days (And Games Historically Cheap)? The Best Games Under $10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FatSqS3VYY
Title: The Best Games Under $10 Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 20:00:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-best-games-under-10/ Gaming has never been more expensive. We're here to investigate why, and help you play more while spending less. Welcome to GameSpot Cheap Week. In today's age, it's important to make the most of your money. In gaming especially, the transition to more expensive titles and console price increases are pricing many out of enjoying the medium entirely. Thankfully, there are a bunch of excellent games that you can grab for pennies, and you don't need to wait for a sale to roll around to do so. In fact, some of the games on this list are permanently free--and no, that doesn't mean they're riddled with microtransactions or locked DLC. Here are the best games you can get for $10 or less. To The Moon Price: $9.99 Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 To The Moon is a short but unforgettable emotional journey that follows two doctors who enter a dying man's memories to fulfill his final wish. It's a beautifully written story about love, regret, memories, and the choices that shape lives. The stunning pixel art makes it a joy to behold, and its haunting soundtrack is the ideal background for the narrative. It hits hard, so don't go into this one if you're feeling emotional, but it's one of the best storytelling experiences I've witnessed. See at Fanatical Portal 2 Price: $9.99 Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch If you've never played Portal, where have you been? Regardless of its massive popularity, we couldn't have a list of the best cheap games without including it. The co-op feature, while a little broken connectivity-wise sometimes, is one of the funniest and most engaging ways to experience Portal 2. The game is a masterclass in puzzle design, satire, and storytelling as you and a friend return to Aperture Science labs using a portal gun to solve challenges and escape. It's a must-play. See at Steam Vampire Survivors Price: $4.99 Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS Vampire Survivors is a deceptively simple game, but a dangerously compelling gameplay loop. With automatic attacks and an arsenal of weapons, you'll battle near-endless waves of monsters and collect experience to create a ridiculous build. Those builds can fill the screen with all manner of glorious chaos. You'll get sucked into the "just one more run" mentality before you know it. Don't forget to brush up on the weapon evolutions for the game's true potential. See at Steam Sheepy: A Short Adventure Price: FREE Platforms: PC Although Sheepy: A Short Adventure is exclusive to PC, it made it onto this list because of its delightful charm. The bite-sized journey won't take you more than 90 minutes on first playthrough and proves that you don't need massive worldbuilding or much dialogue to tell an unforgettable story. As the titular character, you explore an underground facility with clever platforming and hidden secrets. The cozy visuals are accompanied by one of my all-time favorite gaming soundtracks. It's the perfect pick if you're looking for a small indie gem that leaves a surprisingly big impression. See at Steam A Short Hike Price: $7.99 Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One This cozy exploration adventure focuses on slowing down and enjoying the journey. You'll play as Claire, a young bird on a mission to reach the summit of Hawk Peak. Hiking, gliding, climbing, and meeting others along the way is interspersed with finding treasure and discovering side activities. If you like to wander without feeling rushed, A Short Hike is for you. See at Steam Left 4 Dead 2 Price: $9.99 Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S Left 4 Dead 2 is one of the greatest co-op shooters ever made, and I will hear no differently. You and up to three friends will enter a relentless zombie-filled campaign mode where you'll only survive if your teamwork skills are up to scratch. The characters have amusing banter between them, there are fun weapons to choose from, and every run feels equally fresh and chaotic. There are also a bunch of community-made maps to discover. Left 4 Dead 2 is an endlessly replayable classic that's just as fun now as it was at release. See at Steam The WereCleaner Price: FREE Platforms: PC The WereCleaner is a stealth adventure of sorts, where your biggest challenge isn't actually cleaning up the workplace, but hiding the fact that you transform into a werewolf. Your office mates believe you to be a regular janitor by day, but as it creeps toward nighttime you'll have to avoid your coworkers while finishing your chores and hiding your lupine alter ego. It's funny, charming, absurd, and surprisingly wholesome. See at Steam Half-Life 2 Price: $9.99 Platforms: PC I doubt this list would make it past my editors if Half-Life 2 weren't included. Valve's first-person shooter has a gripping storyline, as you'll play scientist Gordon Freeman returning to a world taken over by Combine. Half-Life 2's tense combat, clever puzzles, and memorable locations are the reason half the world is waiting on tenterhooks for Half-Life 3. See at Steam Payday 2 Price: $9.99 Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch Payday 2 is the ultimate heist game. Along with up to four friends, you'll (try to) pull of bank robberies and jewelry store raids, scaling up to multi-stage criminal operations as you progress. Whether you sneak through undetected, or go in all guns blazing, it really is your choice. Use the vast arsenal of weapons, masks, skills, and builds to craft your own heist. See at Fanatical Librarian: Tidy Up The Arcane Library! Price: $4.99 Platforms: PC This charming organizational challenge tasks you with clearing up a magical library. Entering the chaotic collection of enchanted books, artifacts, and other clutter, it's impossible not to find joy in the satisfying cleanup mechanics and cozy atmosphere. See at Steam
Title: Remembering The Lord Of The Rings Game That Ripped Off Final Fantasy 10 Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 19:44:05 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/remembering-the-lord-of-the-rings-game-that-ripped-off-final-fantasy-10/ With a surprise remaster of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North dropping earlier this month and Andy Serkis’ film, Hunt for Gollum, now in production, I’ve had a real desire to jump back into Middle-earth recently. It was a formative fictional world for millions, whether you read J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic novels or fell deeply in love with the fantasy universe through Peter Jackson’s masterful film trilogy. If you have a beating heart, chances are you love LOTR.  But as a lifelong fan of turn-based JRPGs who grew up with classics like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, there is one LOTR video game in the avalanche of tie-ins that stood out above all others, and despite the hostile nature of this piece’s headline, I have plenty of nice things to say about it: The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. Developed by EA Redwood Shores (the team who would go on to make Dead Space and Dante’s Inferno), this turn-based effort tells an original story within Tolkien's setting, with a cute cast of characters and gameplay mechanics that might seem a teensy bit familiar. And it’s basically a dead ringer for Final Fantasy 10.  All Right Then, Keep Your Blitzball  I suppose if you’re going to rip something off like this, you might as well pick one of the strongest games of the sixth console generation. Final Fantasy 10 arguably perfected the turn-based combat formula, while telling a legendary story that is fondly remembered decades later. To many, it stood as the last chapter in Final Fantasy’s golden era, and what a darling swansong it turned out to be.  Released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, The Third Age tells a simple yet compelling story that takes place parallel to the events of Jackson’s movie trilogy.  Your journey begins in the outskirts of Moria as Berethor, a captain of the Citadel Guard of Gondor travelling to his homeland in search of Boromir (uh oh). Shortly into the game, Berethor is rescued by Idrial, an Elf in service of Galadriel who must deliver a vitally important message to her people. If you are starting to notice a pattern here, yes, pretty much every main character in The Third Age is a secret friend of a more important character from the main story.  It’s an easy-breezy excuse to connect our adventure to the classic tale, while simultaneously making the game a roller coaster ride through familiar locales. Other party members include a bow-wielding ranger known as Elegost and a grumpy, hard-hitting dwarf called Hadhod. The gang is all here and the character dynamics even feel similar to Square’s classic RPG. Each party member is given their time to shine through individual arcs, while it often feels like they’re becoming better and more well-rounded people right up until the credits roll.  Moment-to-moment gameplay has you walking through moody environments ranging from decaying forests to elven meadows to snowy mountains, all of which are designed to look like-- but not precisely be-- exact locations from the films. But it gets the job done, even if you only have a single path to tread aside from a few treasure-packed side routes. Each area also comes with a quest, such as defeating a certain number of enemies or finding shrines dedicated to specific deities. It’s simple, - far more so than Final Fantasy 10 - but it works. I adored retracing the steps of Frodo and company, stumbling upon the ashes of fading campfires and fighting through the Mines of Moria just like they did. It’s an effective, albeit hollow, form of fan service, one that’s ideal for a game like this, in which you likely want to celebrate everything you loved about the films. You even team up with Gandalf to take on the Balrog at one point.  They’re Taking The Hobbits To Zanarkand  If you’ve ever played Final Fantasy before, you will immediately guffaw at how transparent the inspiration for The Third Age's combat is. The user interface is almost identical, with the actions list and characters lined up in a similar fashion while the turn order uses face icons in the same way. While I think the combat in The Third Age is more sluggish when performing moves or watching characters go about their business, it undeniably uses the classic JRPG as a foundation. I bet that acted as the original pitch and everything else spawned from there.  But there are ways in which it expands upon Final Fantasy 10, particularly with skill points you can assign to each character upon levelling up, or more comprehensive ways to switch up how each character looks and moves throughout the game world. Cutscenes are also far more dynamic, although don’t expect to see any hyperbudget CGI sequences for the major story moments. But whenever characters sprint across the environment with harsh urgency or a gaggle or orcs emerge from the deathly woods to ambush you it is wrought with great atmosphere. Similar to The Two Towers and Return of the King movie tie-ins, the sauce of Peter Jackson is everywhere in The Third Age.  Lack of originality aside though, The Third Age remains incredibly fun to play. Each character takes on a meaningful role in the party, and there are few better feelings than unleashing Limit Break-esque attacks that wipe out the entire field in one move. I also love that you’ll constantly unlock "Epic Scenes" to watch while progressing through the story, which are 360p clips of the films with narration from Sir Ian McKellen, who plays Gandalf. The scenes are supposed to work with the context of where these new characters are in the story, and man, are there a lot of them.  My personal favourite feature, however, is how customisable your party is. Each new weapon or piece or armour is reflected in their appearance, encouraging you to return to the menu constantly in order to allocate new skill points or see what equipment you have to play with. A number of modern RPGs don’t have this level of aesthetic depth so here I am, praising a licensed game from 2004 for such a thing. It will hardly steal the genre crown, but this gem is still well worth seeking out.  Unfortunately, unless you’re willing to hunt down original hardware and have a physical copy to hand, there is no way to play The Third Age in 2026 without emulation. This is the tragic reality for several beloved licensed games from the era. Games people fell deeply in love with during their childhoods have increasingly become untouchable relics of the past, either due to outdated licenses or companies simply not caring.  However, with the recent surprise release of War in the North, there might still be hope for The Third Age yet. It would take a dedicated team with the right expertise to enhance the visuals, spruce up the user interface, and make all those movie clips look like they aren’t playing on a potato. But a quirky RPG from such a timeless franchise deserves a second lease of life.

Title: MTG Hobbit Secret Lair Bonus Sheet: Diabolic Intent gets the perfect LOTR art Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 21:13:08 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/mtg-hobbit-bonus-sheet-secret-lair-spoilers-diabolic-intent/ Early on in The Hobbit, Thorin's Company narrowly avoids getting eaten by a trio of trolls by allowing them to argue so long that they turn to stone in the sunlight. Then they raid the trolls' treasure. That's when Bilbo Baggins gets Sting, the shortsword that glows when orcs are near. Gandalf claims Glamdring and Thorin picks up Orcrist. When the group is captured in chapter 4 by goblins, however, the Great Goblin flies into a rage upon seeing Orcrist. Gandalf, who had kept himself hidden, suddenly extinguishes all the light in the chamber and slays the Goblin King in a single blow.

Title: Luna Abyss is quietly one of the best shooters of 2026 Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 20:59:06 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/luna-abyss-impressions-game-pass/ Now that summer is winding down, one thing is clear: 2026 has been a killer year for shooters. Pragmata’s hack-and-shoot twist offered an inventive spin on the formula, Marathonis a killer extraction shooter once you get the taste for it, Mouse: P.I. for Hire teed up delightful cartoon visuals, and Sarosdelivers a fast-paced bullet hell spectacle on par with 2021’s excellent Returnal. Now you can add another great game to that growing list: Luna Abyss.
Title: BG3 Fans Just Found a Secret Voice Line That Shouldn't Exist Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 20:00:12 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/baldurs-gate-3-cut-content-mods-voice-lines/ Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for three years. In that time, it has been fully datamined, endlessly modded, and picked apart by millions of detail-loving players. You might be tempted to think that everything to be discovered in the game has come to light. You’d be wrong. This month, a Redditor unearthed a line of dialogue that only plays if you’re a mind flayer before the first act even begins — voiced by an actor who left before the game launched. And that’s just one small finding from the Baldur’s Gate 3 community’s crowdsourced, unofficial preservation society. This year alone, modders have resurrected an entire scrapped fan-fave dream visitor.

It might seem slightly unusual based on Nintendo's release patterns, though it's entirely keeping with how the company viewed Fire Emblem when the series was at its high points.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/ Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all. With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.  When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. From A+ to AAA Gaming  This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming. With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks. The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead. The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own. A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too. Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices. Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way. Everyone, at Their Stations Needlers never looked so sharp. Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.” Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play. Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan. From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission. Title: Hands-on report: Marvel’s Wolverine Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 15:00:03 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/13/hands-on-report-marvels-wolverine/ It’s been a big week for fans of Marvel’s Wolverine, starting with the announcement of sharp-looking PS5 hardware and accessories. Now, with just over a month away until its September 15 launch, Insomniac is sharing a deep dive on the game’s story, combat, and exploration thanks to an extensive hands-on session with the game.   Our two-hour session kicked off with the game’s opening mission in the wilds of Telambang, where Wolverine has reunited with Team X to carry out a critical mission infiltrating the facility of anti-mutant industrialist Bolivar Trask. After slicing our way to a daring rescue, we jumped ahead in the game to a bombastic boss fight and a taste of Madripoor’s Lowtown. Between brutal barrages, stealthy scouting, and a range of rage-filled takedowns, we got to cut to the bone of the game’s story, flesh out Wolverine’s allies and foes, and uncover a piece of his buried past.   Taking on Trask  From the game’s opening moments flashing back to a feral, mangy-haired, and memory-wiped Wolverine, every sequence tested the balance between his rage and humanity. The first mission reunites him with Team X, a mutant task force formed by Nathaniel Essex to help protect mutants. Wolverine had stepped away from the group, something that has rankled his teammates, a wry Mystique and ever-savage Sabretooth.   Their mission takes them from the hidden facility of billionaire Bolivar Trask to the seedy backstreets of Madripoor, presenting Wolverine with the grim reality of what mutants in this world are facing. With mutants largely unknown by society, Trask has been spending his billions abducting, studying, and cruelly disposing of mutants with little regard for his victims in a quest to maintain human superiority. As the nefarious reality of the facility’s purpose becomes clearer, the horror Wolverine feels quickly pools into an unbridled rage. That rage drives him forward through throngs of Reaver enemies and a run in with Omega Red to eventually free Essex, who has been held captive by Trask.   Essex is the one who found Wolverine years before in that feral state, and formed Team X to protect mutants and build a world where mutants can be open. Between Essex and Trask, Wolverine is faced with the lengths some will go to protect the future of their kind, and will challenge him to face what kind of person he wants to be in this future.   Sink your claws in  Between storylines and set pieces, my biggest takeaway from my time with Marvel’s Wolverine was that it feels dang good to sink those claws in. Wolverine doesn’t just attack enemies, he catapults himself at them, targeting and launching himself from across the room to stun or barrage. Every combat encounter becomes a furious flurry, where my adrenaline feels directly tied to Wolverine’s increasing rage.  While a simple parry and barrage can get the job done, Wolverine can unlock a number of Special Techniques, skills that can be upgraded and mapped to the directional buttons for an extra flair in a fight. In my playthrough, I could cleave through a group surrounding me with Tornado Spin, or interrupt enemy attacks with Knee Breaker. Players can also unlock Adaptations, which upgrade long-term effects and skills like Logan’s health and rage meter.  That rage will come in handy. Successful combos build up Wolverine’s rage meter, which rises through three Rage Tiers to dramatically alter his fighting style. As Wolverine enters Rage Tier 2, his combos become more powerful and he unlocks Last Stand, which allows him to use his rage to heal his body if fully downed. But things really go over the edge when Wolverine’s meter fills to Rage Tier 3. His attacks become significantly more powerful, while brutal critical strikes become available. His vision seems to close in, his breathing getting louder and more primal as he darts between enemies, slicing and dicing with ease. Those critical strikes can lead to some dangerously fun takedowns, like snatching a member of The Hand’s katana or bow to slam back into them.   Sometimes, Wolverine needs a more methodical approach. He can use his Enhanced Senses to track and takedown enemies more stealthily. Trask also has Ability Inhibitors at his disposal that block Wolverine and his teammates from using their abilities. In these moments, he must work past the pain and fight without healing, focusing on taking enemies down with classic combat moves and destroying the Inhibitors before it’s too late.  It took all the skills I had gathered so far to take on the looming Sentinel Prototype towards the end of my preview. Built by Trask to detect and destroy mutants, this fight took all of Wolverine’s patience and strategy, dodging or parrying the Sentinel’s powerful attacks, while waiting for the perfect moments to strike. This sequence was thrilling both to use Wolverine’s abilities to their fullest potential, and to watch as he worked in tandem with Mystique and Sabretooth. By the time I was busting through the Sentinel’s head victorious, I had a wild grin on my face and felt amped and ready to take on anyone.   More to explore  Luckily after that fight, there was still more to explore. In Madripoor, surrounded by allies new and old, we took a moment of respite in Princess Bar (run by Tyger). Here we got to interact with newly acquired ally Jean Grey, and the mutant teens she has been protecting. Though they are still a mystery to one another, Jean and Wolverine’s connection is immediate. It’s with her that he can admit that his anger sometimes scares him and that he wants to be better.  I enjoyed that Wolverine also makes time here for his teammates Mystique and Sabretooth. Mystique stays focused and on mission during combat, shifting through identities when needed. Here in Princess Bar, she can just be herself, and encourages Wolverine to do the same through a friendly but vulnerable game of Never Have I Ever. Sabretooth spends most of the game’s opening antagonizing Wolverine and calling him a runt, which is fair enough given he stands about as tall as Sabretooth’s navel. But it’s clear their relationship runs deeper, and Sabretooth feels spurned by Wolverine’s original exit from the group.   While exploring the streets of Lowtown, I could take the time to check out some of Wolverine’s other looks and claw types, which ranged from a classic undershirt and jeans outfit to a Weapon X helmeted style. While walking around the Princess Bar, Wolverine’s Enhanced Senses could pick up on conversation or music that could guide him to specific rooms, or trail a teammate’s scent to find where they’ve run off to. Exploring each room sometimes led to a conversation, or finding easter eggs, like Mystique’s wedding pictures, or an IOU written on an ace of spades card from one Remy LeBeau.   Take the time to explore each new location, as Wolverine can discover hidden crates with raw upgrade materials or collectable whisky bottles. Logan can also stumble across Nightmare Doors, which transport him to a dreamlike cabin to take part in a Nightmare Trial. These timed speed trials reimagine different locations from the game into a vertical fever dream, where he can race to the end to unlock a forgotten memory from his past.   Players can sink their claws into Wolverine’s story and tap into his rage when Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15 on PS5 consoles.

Title: The US Senate are investigating Roblox for prioritising "revenue and engagement metrics over the safety and well-being of our children" Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 16:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-us-senate-are-investigating-roblox-for-prioritising-revenue-and-engagement-metrics-over-the-safety-and-well-being-of-our-children US senators have launched an investigation of game creation platform Roblox on a broad charge of putting money before child safety. They accuse Roblox of being a venue for "sexually explicit (and often violent) virtual 'experiences' with children", and have requested a range of documents and records, including details of the company's collaborations with Sesame Street, the NFL and FIFA. Title: I'm not saying Bethesda are trolling me specifically, but Fallout 4 and Skyrim updates are imminent just as I've modded up the latter for the first time in ages Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 15:51:22 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/fallout-4-and-skyrim-updates-are-imminent-just-as-ive-modded-up-the-latter-for-the-first-time-in-ages Right, just a couple more location overhauls and there we go. A fresh Skyrim load order created for my first modded toe-dip into Tamriel for quite a while, outside of grabbing the odd article image. Phew, now to relax and sink another 50 hou-wait. Fallout 4 and Skyrim updates are inbound, say Bethesda? Well, that would be my luck, wouldn't it? Read more
Title: Mortal Shell 2 review: A monumental heavy metal sequel with the spirit of a '90s PC game Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 14:33:22 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/mortal-shell-2-review-a-monumental-heavy-metal-sequel-with-the-spirit-of-a-90s-pc-game A few hours into your sojourn across Mortal Shell 2's harsh realm of Fainweald, you might stumble upon a tavern called The One Legged Wolf. In a monstrous land inhabited by pasty-faced brigands who refer to you as "brev" right before shanking you, this watering hole exudes novelty. Here, said thugs congregate to make merry and listen to the strums of the shirtless lute-player on stage. Even if you do as I did, and accidentally massacre the guy with a shot from your sidearm, nobody minds. The One Legged Wolf is a weird, memorable place where folk are free to do their own thing. In many ways, The One Legged Wolf is emblematic of Mortal Shell 2, a sequel that stands out from the pack by melding the modern dark fantasy Soulslike with a willingness to ditch genre formula, a cheeky sense of humour, and the DNA of a PC-only game from yesteryear. The result is a goth cousin of more mainstream fare like Elden Ring, not to mention a phenomenal effort that outclasses its predecessor in a manner that we probably haven't seen since The Witcher III. Title: Sraëka Lillian's one-a-week RPG "sketches" are a lovely series of experiments with hoary old conventions from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 13:39:43 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/sraeka-lillians-one-a-week-rpg-sketches-are-a-lovely-series-of-experiments-with-hoary-old-conventions-from-final-fantasy-and-dragon-quest There's a running joke in the world of THEA-TAH that Shakespeare's Hamlet is a play made up entirely of quotations. I often get the same feeling when I play a fantasy RPG, and especially a fantasy RPG created with toolkits such as EasyRPG or RPG Maker that come with their own freely reusable assets, resulting in a slew of homebrew RPGs that can seem interchangeable, on the surface.
