Title: Microsoft’s 25th Anniversary Xbox Series X Could Be Its Most Expensive Console Yet Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2026 13:08:46 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-25th-anniversary-xbox-series-x-could-be-its-most-expensive-console-yet/ It's the 25th anniversary of Xbox this year, and to celebrate, Microsoft is releasing a limited-edition version of the Xbox Series X that is reportedly very expensive. Announced earlier this year, the new model could cost as much as $900, and a new leak claims that it'll be released on November 27. At the time of writing, that means you'd need to save up a little over $9 a day to afford this console. Would you pay extra for a limited-edition Xbox Series X? According to the usually reliable Dealabs, this version of the Xbox Series X will cost $100 more than the current Xbox Series X, which features a "carbon black" design. That's also the same price as a PlayStation 5 Pro, following its price increase earlier this year. While it's not as powerful as Sony's beefier machine, it does include a disc drive. It's also worth noting that this could be a sign of things to come, as Microsoft has already warned that it expects to raise Xbox console prices again in 2027 as the AI-driven components crisis continues to push prices for console storage and memory up. Chances are, if you're buying this, it's purely for looks. The console and its controller are dressed in a translucent green finish that allows you to peek at their inner workings, and Xbox says that owners will also discover a few hidden Easter eggs throughout the chassis. https://youtu.be/1-INYU6FLgI The console has 1TB of storage capacity--Microsoft has since discontinued its 2TB Xbox Series X thanks to rising memory costs--and the anniversary edition controller will also be available as a standalone purchase. This version of the peripheral is full of nods to Xbox's history, from the original face button colors to the rear bumpers referencing the black-and-white buttons on the original "Duke" controller. Meanwhile, Sony has also rolled out a new special edition of its PS5 console, with this new variant sporting a design that's inspired by Marvel's Wolverine. While it's not quite as snazzy as the Xbox Series X with its Mountain Dew green finish, the mustard-yellow, claw slashes, and a Wolverine illustration by superstar comic book artist Jock do make for an eye-catching design. If you're interested, you can preorder it now--or console covers if you already have a PS5--and the limited-edition DualSense controller through PlayStation Direct. Title: The Best Nintendo Switch Games In 2026 Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2026 12:50:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/best-nintendo-switch-games/2900-3828/ The Nintendo Switch and its successor, the Switch 2, is home to tons of great games, including dozens of titles you can only find on Nintendo's handheld hybrid systems. Many of these are published by Nintendo itself, since the company makes great use of its own hardware, but there are plenty of third-party and indie games exclusive to the Switch consoles as well. With such a strong catalog of games, narrowing down the standouts to the very best isn't super easy, but that's what we've attempted with our list of the best Nintendo Switch games. We aimed to include a mix of genres, franchises, and both AAA and indie games. The Switch era of gaming might be winding down now that its successor, the Switch 2, has arrived, but it looks like this groundbreaking hybrid handheld-console from Nintendo is going to have a lengthy retirement tour. Over the years we've seen Nintendo's biggest franchises reach new heights on the Switch, and the console has also established itself as a powerful platform for third-party releases. While some franchises nabbed multiple spots on this list--Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon--we tried to limit repetition where possible. The picks below aren't in any particular order, and to make things easier, we've listed them all in alphabetical order. For more Switch game recommendations, check out our lists of the best Switch games, the best multiplayer Switch games, and great Switch games for kids. If you're specifically looking for games from some of Nintendo's most famous franchises, we have roundups of every Zelda game and every Mario game on Switch. Animal Crossing: New Horizons Animal Crossing: New Horizons remains one of the most popular and wholesome games on Nintendo Switch. Just as lockdowns began happening across the world, Animal Crossing: New Horizons invited players to a tranquil island for a relaxing loop of activities like fishing, bug-catching, and perfecting the layout of their virtual homes. Nintendo has steadily introduced new features to New Horizons, including plenty of free content as well as the massive Happy Home Paradise DLC. New Horizons also has robust customization features, including a new terraforming feature that gives you complete control over the terrain of your island. Whether you're conversing with your fellow residents, trying to finish your museum catalog, or visiting your friends' islands, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a constant charmer. Read our Animal Crossing: New Horizons review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Bayonetta 3 A showstopper of confident combat and demonic dance-moves, Bayonetta 3 gets action in a way that few other games do. A cocky blast of fun that caps the Bayonetta trilogy off on a high note, Bayonetta 3 isn't afraid to mix up its formula with the arrival of a new character who's a perfect contrast to the elegant anarchy of the titular witch. With a multi-dimensional storyline, full-scale kaiju battles, and even a Hollywood-level chase sequence, Bayonetta 3 doesn't forget why fans fell in love with the series in the first place. Read our Bayonetta 3 review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Celeste A wonderful platformer with an important message, Celeste feels right at home on Nintendo Switch. Madeline makes the trip to the treacherous Mount Celeste, a snow-covered mountain filled with perilous cliffs and interesting characters. Rendered in gorgeous pixelated graphics, Celeste plays like an old-school platformer and relies largely on well-timed jumps. It feels superb in motion, and the level design gradually grows more challenging as you acquire new abilities that cleverly expand the gameplay. It's a difficult game, but you can tweak the settings to fit your skill level to enjoy the story. Celeste tells a moving tale about finding yourself and overcoming self-doubt that creeps into your mind. It's one of the most poignant games in recent years as well as one of the best side-scrolling platformers on Switch. See our Celeste review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Cuphead Studio MDHR's Cuphead is a glorious ode to classic cartoons and a tremendous run-and-gun. Cuphead originally released for Xbox One and PC before being ported to Nintendo Switch. It made a smooth transition and runs flawlessly on the Switch hardware whether you're playing on your TV or in handheld mode. Cuphead's art style immediately stands out. The hand-drawn characters and animations look ripped out of a 1930s cartoon, giving Cuphead a visual style that will always look great. The jazzy audio design rounds out the presentation, transporting players to a different time. Essentially, it's a playable cartoon. Cuphead is far more than just a beautiful artistic triumph; it's also an aptly designed run-and-gun filled with exciting boss fights and cleverly made side-scrolling levels. If you're not afraid of a challenge, Cuphead is an absolute must-play game whether you play solo or cooperatively with a friend. The Delicious Last Course expansion only added to Cuphead's greatness by offering a brand-new playable character and some of the most impressive boss fights and animations across the whole package. See our Cuphead and Cuphead DLC reviews. See at Best Buy Advertisement Dead Cells Dead Cells is an amalgamation of rogue-likes and metroidvanias, and the result is an influential game that will likely be considered one of the best in both genres for years to come. Set in a procedurally generated castle, you play as a reanimated mass of cells taking hold of a prisoner's body. The labyrinthine castle is crawling with dangerous enemies and littered with secrets waiting to be uncovered. Each time you die--which tends to happen fairly regularly--you have to start over again. Critically, there are permanent upgrades, which allow you to make progress and see new areas with each subsequent run. With finely tuned and stylish action combat, an array of cool abilities and weapons, and an expertly designed map that changes each time you play, Dead Cells compels you to see it through to the end. And like all good roguelikes, Dead Cells makes you want to play through it again and again. Dead Cells has a bunch of great add-on content, including a great Castlevania-themed DLC, which really does feel like a perfect pairing. Read our Dead Cells review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Donkey Kong Country Returns HD As Nintendo prepares to launch the Switch 2, it's increasingly reaching into its back catalog for more games. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD goes back to the original Wii, reintroducing the first time Retro Studios brought back the beloved DKC side-scroller series. The game is still tough-as-nails, but it packages the quality-of-life features from the 3DS port that allow you a little more flexibility. With impeccable stage design that pays homage to the classic Super NES DKC games, this is a solid platformer that deserves its flowers. Read our Donkey Kong Country Returns HD review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake One of the most influential RPGs of all time has finally gotten the glow-up it deserves. Dragon Quest III was an incredible, genre-defining classic in its day, helping to break new ground with innovations like a robust job system and party recruiting. The HD-2D Remake recontextualizes this in the retro-modern aesthetic of games like Octopath Traveler or Triangle Strategy. The gameplay is faithful to the original, while packing just enough quality-of-life enhancements to make it smoother for current day play. It's the best way to enjoy a true classic. Read our Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. See at Best Buy Advertisement Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition Square Enix's long-running Dragon Quest franchise has consistently stuck to its roots, and Dragon Quest 11 embraces its traditional JRPG identity. In an age where more and more JRPGs are injecting traditionally Western gameplay features into their systems, Dragon Quest 11 embraces what it has always done so well. It's simply a fantastic turn-based role-playing game filled with charming characters, a beautiful world, and a deeply satisfying combat system. On Switch, you can switch between two distinct styles: modern 3D visuals and a classic 8-bit top-down presentation. The latter is especially intriguing for handheld mode. Read our Dragon Quest 11 review. See at Walmart Advertisement Fire Emblem: Three Houses Relentlessly engaging and rife with variety, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the most impressive entry in the beloved strategy series. You play as a professor who oversees one of three houses at a mysterious monastery. There, you cultivate relationships and train your students to be prepared for the battles ahead. While recent Fire Emblem games have leaned more into social simulation, Three Houses takes this concept to the next level and includes some well-implemented management sim features. It strikes a wonderful balance between storytelling, preparation for the next battle, and the always-wonderful tactical combat scenarios the series is known for. With deftly written characters, an exceedingly good tale, and smart tweaks to the layered combat system, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is an astonishing experience from start to finish. And more than any other Fire Emblem game before it, Three Houses encourages multiple playthroughs to see the whole story, and each playthrough is different. Read our Fire Emblem: Three Houses review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Hades 2 Any follow-up to a critically acclaimed game is going to have its work cut out for it, as developers have to tread a fine line between familiar gameplay and enhancing it with new ideas. The original Hades already felt like a complete and superb dive into the Greek underworld, but Hades 2 builds on that foundation to deliver not just a beautifully polished experience but also one that feels fresh and exciting. Combining a captivating narrative with best-in-class roguelite gameplay, Hades 2 improves on its predecessor meaningfully and in every way possible. Not only does it feel better than ever to play, but new weapons, abilities, and an impressive amount of content will keep you hooked to your Switch screen for a very long time as you attempt yet another perfect run in the underworld. Read our Hades 2 review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Hollow Knight It's a good thing that Hollow Knight is such a good metroidvania that you can comfortably hop into whenever the fancy strikes you, because it makes the wait for its sequel Silksong that much more bearable. The original game had some rough edges, but these were smoothed over in time and the bug's life adventure that came out of this was nothing short of exceptional. Hollow Knight is haunting and elegant: an aggressive collection of combat and exploration that feels right at home on the Switch. This version also contains all of its DLC, a sizable chunk of content that expands on the game massively and is enhanced by its gorgeous visual design. Read our Hollow Knight review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Hollow Knight: Silksong Years of development behind locked doors lent a mythic quality to Hollow Knight: Silksong, but the wait was more than worth it for this confident sequel. Doubling down on everything that made 2017's Hollow Knight a smash hit, Silksong is a masterfully crafted game full of deep character-building options, challenging combat, and beautifully designed levels. It's undeniably frustratingly difficult at times, but few games can elicit a sensation of triumph as powerful as the fist-pumping moments you'll regularly find in Silksong when you overcome deadly challenges. It doesn't reinvent the metroidvania formula, but it does perfect it. Read our Hollow Knight: Silksong review. Advertisement The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy There's no shortage of great tactical-RPGs on the Switch, and you can add The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy to that list. The fourth game from developer Too Kyo Games, The Hundred Line offers a rich narrative full of mystery and intriguing characters, relationship-building diversions, and strategic action that carries a high sense of risk and reward. If it sinks its hooks into you, expect to spend a lot of time playing The Hundred Line, as it features strong performances and dozens of potential endings to unlock. See at Best Buy Advertisement Into The Breach Subset Games' Into the Breach is a rare type of game that feels and plays like nothing before it. Developed by FTL studio Subset Games, Into the Breach is a roguelike tactics game that takes place on tiny grids. In the distant future, the monstrous Vek are threatening humanity. To save the world from monsters, you assemble a team of three mechs who take on the Vek in small-scale battles on eight-by-eight grids. Each battle only lasts several turns, and the goal isn't to overpower the Vek; instead, you're trying to deter their attacks and limit damage on critical infrastructure. You can also see a preview of each Vek's next move at the start of every turn, allowing you to strategize for the best possible outcome. Into the Breach is more like chess than a traditional tactics game, and you'd be surprised at how involved the matches can get. Into the Breach innovates on the form more than any other game in recent memory. See our Into the Breach review. See at Walmart Advertisement Kirby and the Forgotten Land Simply put, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the best game in series history. As Kirby's first 3D platforming adventure, Forgotten Land offers remarkable variety and depth compared to earlier entries in the series. Kirby's iconic Copy ability works incredibly well in 3D, adding depth to both puzzles and combat. With six unique worlds that each contain levels that are littered with secrets and novel design quirks, Kirby and the Forgotten is one of those platformers that constantly surprises. Kirby's new Mouthful Mode ability is a charmer and spices up gameplay even more. The lengthy mainline stages are complemented by short and sweet time trials dubbed Treasure Road. These optional levels utilize Kirby's Copy and Mouthful abilities in fun and interesting ways, and completing them feeds into the overall loop that compels you to upgrade Copy abilities to make them even cooler. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an absolute delight from start to finish whether you're playing solo or alongside a friend or loved one in local co-op. Read our Kirby and the Forgotten Land review. See at Best Buy Advertisement The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a Switch launch title, but it remains one of the best games on the platform all these years later. Many fans have called it the best game in the entire franchise--though the next game on this list has a strong argument, too. Breath of the Wild was Nintendo's first real foray into open-world games, and it's easily one of the best in class. Breath of the Wild provides a sense of exploration never before seen in the series. The sprawling open world of Hyrule is gorgeous and serves as Link’s personal playground. He can climb virtually anything, which creates an incredible sense of scale and freedom. This overarching change extends to the central progression as well. Replacing elaborate dungeons with tons of small-scale Shrines allows you to approach the adventure in your own way. Breath of the Wild is one of the few open-world games that isn't littered with extraneous systems and objectives. It prides itself on offering a slower pace and a more scenic, desolate world that's ripe for exploring, whether you're on foot, horseback, or scaling a cliff searching for a new discovery. Breath of the Wild is a stunning, brilliant adventure. Read our The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild review. See at Best Buy Advertisement The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom After decades of playing the damsel in distress or a sidekick to Link's heroism, Zelda is now finally taking center stage in her own adventure. Echoes of Wisdom looks remarkably similar to the Link's Awakening remake for Switch, with the same playfully animated aesthetic. But Zelda takes the lead this time with her own distinct mechanics. Using a special wand, she can summon "Echoes" of the objects and enemies she encounters, using them to cleverly solve puzzles and fight in combat encounters. While Zelda can take the form of a swordfighter like Link, her combat hooks are different enough to set this game apart and let Zelda forge her own path at last. Read our The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom review. See at Best Buy Advertisement The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Six years after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo captured lightning in a bottle again with its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom. Building on the foundation of the groundbreaking Switch launch game, Tears of the Kingdom hits all the right notes for a sequel. It's bigger, bolder, and even more ambitious than the first game, and at the same time, it makes great strides towards addressing some of the more lingering issues from Breath of the Wild. The Legend of Zelda at its very best, Tears of the Kingdom links to the past by borrowing the best elements from older games in the franchise, and delivers a rewarding experience that's endlessly captivating. The end result is a masterpiece of intelligent engineering and fun gameplay that will become a new gold standard for future Zelda games. Read our The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Who would have thought that a tag team of Mushroom Kingdom superstars and Ubisoft's Rabbids could produce such a gem? Following up on the absurd strategy of 2017's Kingdom Battle, Sparks of Hope refines the turn-based strategy formula with genuinely clever improvements. It's a game that the rest of the genre should pay attention to, as Ubisoft Milan and Paris make big changes that help create a better game with an even better sense of pacing. It's also just a hoot to play, with the sheer joy woven into every pixel shining in this sequel. From Luigi's barely contained cowardice to the hilarious silliness of the Rabbids, Sparks of Hope is a chaotic but clever little masterpiece on the Switch. Read our Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Mario Kart 8 Deluxe An expanded port of the excellent Wii U game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best racing game on Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe currently contains more than 40 racers and 48 tracks, including many of the best courses from Mario Kart history. Deluxe adds several notable features, including driving assistance settings for new players and two item slots. It also has an extended Battle mode, which winds up making Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the most content-rich and well-rounded entry in series history. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released during the Switch's launch window, but it remains one of the most popular multiplayer games on the console for good reason. It should be in every Nintendo Switch owner's library. See our Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Mega Man: Star Force Legacy Collection When you think of Mega Man, you think of Capcom's iconic hero running and gunning through stages full of hazards and gimmicky bosses. But for a time, some of the best Mega Man games were redefining what the franchise could be. Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is a rarity, a collection of classic Nintendo DS games given a new lease on life. The full trilogy and its variants are available to play, and not only do they still look superb thanks to their adorable pixel-art, but they've been enhanced with meaningful quality-of-life additions to boot. A return to the trilogy is a reminder of just how strong the storytelling was, as the games tell a touching coming-of-age tale. You've also got the original Nintendo DS two-screen layout seamlessly converted into a crisp single-screen experience that perfectly balances multiple displays, while the restored online features help complete the package. Advertisement Metroid Dread After a nearly two-decade wait, Metroid returned to its side-scrolling roots for an adventure that closed out the current Metroid saga. Remarkably, Metroid Dread lives up to the high expectations set by longtime fans. Developed by Mercury Steam (Metroid: Samus Returns), Metroid Dread is a wonderful adventure that sticks to its roots. Dread shines mechanically, with fast-paced combat, a wide range of upgrades to acquire, and a stable of bosses that test your fortitude and counterattack skills. Dread also introduces the EMMI, creepy robots who patrol designated zones and cause instant game overs if you're caught. It's an absolute joy to explore the maze-like locales, and Dread's huge swath of secrets to uncover encourages multiple playthroughs. Metroid Dread is easily one of the best side-scrollers on Switch, and it's a reminder that going back to your roots can be a truly excellent idea. Read our Metroid Dread review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Metroid Prime Remastered Few games stand the test of time, but Metroid Prime is one of the select few titles from a bygone era that still feels as good to play today as it did on the GameCube back in 2002. More than two decades later, it's even better as this first-person shooter got a massive facelift for Nintendo's hybrid console. Looking better than ever, Samus Aran's shift to the third dimension is a great example of evergreen gameplay design that influenced an entire generation of action games in its wake. It's still Metroid right down to its first-person bones, but the slick action and well-paced exploration can be enjoyed without needing to don some nostalgia-goggles. Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games has proven that it's no flash-in-the-pan studio, as Mina the Hollower is a masterful adventure from start to finish. Set in a beautifully hostile world that feels like it was ripped straight out of a punishing NES game, it combines the open-world flow of classic The Legend of Zelda games with souls-like combat that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The end result? A magical tour through a haunting world, enhanced by catchy chiptune tracks, secrets around every corner, and combat that tasks you with being creatively cunning. Advertisement Monster Hunter Rise The Monster Hunter series has a long history on Nintendo platforms dating back nearly a decade, and though Monster Hunter World didn't release for the Switch, Capcom rectified that with the excellent Monster Hunter Rise. Though it started as a Switch exclusive, Rise has since been ported to other platforms and received a massive DLC, Sunbreak, that makes it all the more enjoyable. Rise adds a level of verticality through the Wirebug tool. Though perfect for shorter gameplay sessions, it also fits comfortably as a mainline entry with a big map, online multiplayer action, and a ton of depth in the various weapon types for players looking to experiment. With a mix of classic monsters and newcomers, it's a great entry point and perfect for the series' veterans. Read our Monster Hunter Rise review. See at Amazon Advertisement Mouse P.I. For Hire How does a boomer shooter stand out in a crowded genre? In the case of Mouse P.I. For Hire, going very retro is one way to make an impression. Combining old-school rubber-hose animation with satisfying shoot-'em-up action, Mouse P.I. For Hire hits a sweet spot between riveting gunfights and absurd comedy that's bolstered by its polished animation. Presented as a cartoon caper with film noir aesthetics, the retro-style shooter offers plenty of style and substance inside of a charming package. Read our Mouse P.I. For Hire review. Advertisement Octopath Traveler 2 The Switch has become a hub for classic JRPG goodness, and Octopath Traveler II is a prime example of this. Square Enix's follow-up to the original game retains all the classic charm of the SNES era, mixed with graphics that blur the line between modern and retro gaming. Not just a good-looking game, Octopath Traveler II is satisfying to play thanks to its combo of non-linear storytelling, freeform exploration, and strategic combat, all of which serve to deliver a challenging adventure told across multiple viewpoints. Like the best sequels, it builds on the ideas that the original game pioneered, improving and iterating on its unique elements. If you're looking for a cozy JRPG that'll easily consume dozens of your hours, Octopath Traveler II is worth picking up. Read our Octopath Traveler 2 review. See at Amazon Advertisement Opus: Prism Peak Fans of Opus: Echo of Starsong were in for a long wait--and a few delays--with Opus: Prism Peak, but it was worth it. Like its predecessor, Opus: Prism Peak is the kind of game that pulls at the heartstrings, delivering an emotional story and fusing it with gameplay that perfectly complements it. A bittersweet narrative adventure about a world-weary photographer and an amnesiac girl, it's the kind of game that's perfect for anyone who feels jaded by life, as it's a story of loss, hope, and perseverance told through a camera lens. Advertisement Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Perhaps the most beloved of Mario's many RPG incarnations, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door received an excellent and loving remake on Nintendo Switch this year. The bright, colorful visuals look better than ever thanks to an HD remaster, the heartfelt and often funny dialogue still shines through years later, and the turn-based battle system still feels dynamic and incredibly balanced. In addition to remastering a beloved game, a new fast-travel, hint, and training options help streamline the experience and make it more approachable for newcomers. This is the definitive way to experience a classic all over again, or for the first time. Read our Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo plays--and looks--like a love-letter to the Zelda-likes of the Game Boy Advance era, but with some neat twists on the formula. Like the best games in this genre, there's a satisfying sense of reward for exploration and experimentation, and when combined with a novel gameplay system that asks you to take on some "debt" and clear it, Pipistrello shines. It's a quirky tribute to a bygone era of gaming, all wrapped up in a package of energetic visuals and catchy music. Advertisement The Plucky Squire At first glance, The Plucky Squire appears to be another indie Zelda-like, albeit one with a particularly lovely storybook art style. But it takes a turn when the hero of the story is thrown out of his book, and into the real world of a fan's bedroom, by the villain. The adventure then has you jumping in and out of the book at will, manipulating the words on the page, and even opening and closing the book to slide objects around for puzzle-solving. It's an inventive hook with loads of cool applications, and on top of that, The Plucky Squire keeps you on your toes with an impressive level of variety. Read our The Plucky Squire review. Taking place well before the events of any other RPG entry in the series, Arceus sends players to the Hisui region (Sinnoh) to complete the first Pokedex. Arceus' core gameplay revolves already scouring the land in search of Pokemon, which can be caught by simply lobbing Poke Balls. Arceus also has the familiar turn-based battle system, which makes it feel like a mainline game in many respects. Mainline story missions take place in sprawling areas, which gives Arceus an open-world feel, and with plenty of optional missions as well, Arceus boasts a surprising amount of compelling content. Crafting systems and resource management incentivize exploration, and it's pretty easy to lose hours simply exploring the locales in search of new Pokemon and resources. Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a must-play for Pokemon fans, and even lapsed fans might enjoy the refreshing loop. Read our Pokemon Legends: Arceus review. The Spanish-influenced locales and punchy soundtrack combined with dozens of new Pokemon to catch and secrets to uncover make for a thrilling adventure, one that's hard to put down once the signature "gotta catch 'em all" gameplay sinks its hooks into you. The sheer inventiveness on display across its 12 worlds (including four challenging bonus worlds) is enough to make this one of the better modern Mario games, and the fact you can play the entire campaign with up to four players makes it a great pick for families. Bowser's Fury brings something entirely different to the table with an open-world design with a series of mini levels that gradually unlock as you collect Cat Shines and square off against a very large and angry Bowser. See at Amazon Advertisement Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced might not hit the peaks that its source material, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, hit 13 years ago, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad game. Divorced from the high bar that its predecessor set, this remake of the classic high-seas adventure is a faithful modernization, one that offers gorgeous visuals and polished gameplay while also sanding away the rougher edges. It might not have any real surprises to offer players, but on its own, the Black Flag remake is still a seaworthy entry in the franchise that's worth checking out, especially if you never played the original. Advertisement Astro Bot PlayStation mascot Astro had already debuted on PlayStation 5 with Astro's Playroom, a pre-installed tech demo that showed off the capabilities of the DualSense controller. Not only does Astro Bot squeeze technical wonder out of the PS5 capabilities, but it's also just a constantly surprising and impeccably well-crafted platformer that earns a place next to the very best the genre has to offer. It's a can't-miss on PS5, especially if you enjoyed the little taste from Astro's Playroom. See our Astro Bot review. The Ultimate edition comes with both of Control’s expansions, which expand on a story that’s full of surprises and gripping performances. In Control, you play as Jesse Faden, the new director of the Federal Bureau of Control, a secretive agency that investigates supernatural events. Control’s combat is thrilling, with a great mix of standard third-person gunplay and abilities that ooze with style. The story is thought-provoking and, at times, mind-bending. The new Warlock and Paladin classes are a blast of fun that make you feel like a powerhouse in Sanctuary, endgame content is more approachable, and the much-needed update to skill trees is well-designed. See on Amazon Advertisement Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Final Fantasy VII Remake impressed us with how it rethought the very structure of what a classic game remake could be. The second in the planned trilogy, Rebirth, expands its scope outside the steampunk city of Midgar and into a lush open world, giving you no shortage of activities and minigames to occupy your time as you pursue the deadly Sephiroth. While this middle chapter loses some of the focus of its predecessor, it makes up for it by further polishing the already tightly designed combat, introducing a wide cast of new and familiar faces, and deepening the mysteries at the heart of the remake trilogy. Plus, we just can't get enough Queen's Blood, the new card game that's so good it could stand on its own as a separate release. See our Final Fantasy VII Rebirth review. See at Amazon Advertisement Ghost of Tsushima / Ghost of Yotei Ghost of Tsushima was the last major exclusive to release on PS4 and made the most of the hardware since it already looked incredible and ran extremely well. The free PS5 upgrade makes the details of Tsushima’s lush open world even more rich and expressive. If you missed out on Ghost of Tsushima at the end of the PS4’s lifecycle, the upgrade, which supports gameplay at 60fps and 4K resolution, makes it look and feel like a native PS5 game. You play as Jin Sakai, a samurai who barely staves off a violent death and sets off on an adventure to thwart the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Ghost of Tsushima has great, fluid combat and well-integrated stealth mechanics. The open-world quest structure does feel fairly familiar, but all of the other aspects make it worth the occasional repetition. Outside of the campaign, there’s a surprisingly awesome co-op multiplayer mode dubbed Legends that adds numerous new layers to an already-great game. You can also opt for the Director's Cut, which includes a brand-new story expansion that adds to the overall narrative. See our Ghost of Tsushima review. Its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, sticks very closely to the template set by Ghost of Tsushima, making for a comfortably familiar game. It might offer few surprises in the gameplay department, but Ghost of Yotei still excels as a tentpole PS5 release: it's gorgeous, you can sink dozens of hours into its romanticized slice of feudal Japan, and its gripping tale of revenge is full of surprises along the way. Read our Ghost of Yotei review. See at Amazon Advertisement God of War / God of War Ragnarok God of War is one of the most stunning PS4 games, and it is even prettier on PS5. The PS5 update adds a performance mode with 4K resolution that runs at 60fps. God of War is one of the best PlayStation exclusives in a long time already, so it’s definitely worth revisiting or playing for the first time on PS5 if you haven't yet. Its sequel, God of War Ragnarok, is a massive expansion of the concept and a continuation of the story. It's just as visually outstanding, while refining the already stellar combat and giving you new tools and RPG-like features to help you make the combat your own. It also continues, and possibly concludes, the apocalyptic story that the first game began, making these two a perfect duology to experience on your PS5. See our God of War Ragnarok review. See at Amazon Advertisement Hades 2 The original Hades was a sublime roguelite, but its sequel takes everything that made the first game great and transforms it into an exceptional follow-up. A good roguelite is all about working toward that one perfect run, an idea that Hades 2 excels at with its polished gameplay, varied arsenal, and powerful boons from the gods. At its core lies a captivating narrative, a story that'll keep you coming back for more, and as a sum of its parts, Hades 2 is a sublime sequel. Read our Hades 2 review. Advertisement Hitman: World of Assassination IO Interactive’s Hitman reboot trilogy has proven to be one of the most inventive and interesting stealth-action series ever made. Hitman 3 caps off the World of Assassination trilogy on an all-time high note for the franchise as a whole. The hallmark of the trilogy has been player choice in intricate sandbox-style levels, and that is readily on display in Hitman 3, giving players a dizzying number of ways to tackle objectives as Agent 47. Brilliant level design is complemented by lively characters who draw you into this mesmerizing and often absurd world. Hitman 3 also places a greater emphasis on its story, which trickles down to the atmosphere to create a campaign that feels more consequential. With the "World of Assassination" update, you can play through all three games of content along with the engaging roguelike Freelancer mode. See our Hitman 3 review. See at Amazon Advertisement Horizon Forbidden West Horizon Forbidden West is an excellent demonstration of the power of the PS5. Aloy's second adventure takes place after the events of Zero Dawn, with the heroine on a new quest to unearth answers to the past in order to save the future of the world. Horizon Forbidden West has a nice mix of stealth and action-oriented combat when it comes to the signature machines (robot dinosaurs). If you're looking for a gorgeous open-world game with near endless activities, Horizon Forbidden West is bursting at the seams with content. The main quests are the stars of the show, but there are a bunch of compelling sidequests that encourage players to explore. While there might actually be too many systems in Forbidden West, those who like these sorts of open-world games will undoubtedly appreciate how much there is to see and do. See our Horizon Forbidden West review. See at Amazon Advertisement Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 The historical epic RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a surprise hit in 2018, and now its sequel has come to expand upon the world. This is a role-playing game with an emphasis on actually playing a role, as both the combat and conversation systems are rich with layers to explore and craft your own path through the world. The combat has been streamlined and feels more fluid, but not at the expense of its predecessor's depth. And the quests are well-written and draw you deeper into the world. Read our Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 review. See on Amazon Advertisement Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess Capcom has had a string of wins with its established franchises, recently releasing a steady stream of well-received new games like Street Fighter 6 alongside remakes like Resident Evil 4. Kunitsu-Gami shows the publisher hasn't lost its step for new franchises, producing an inventive blend of demon-slaying action and tower defense strategy that each feel intense and satisfying in their own ways, and especially combined together. Inspired by Japanese folklore, you need to constantly balance purging the demons, rescuing villagers, and building traps. It's a lot to manage, but spinning these plates simultaneously creates a compelling gameplay loop that's hard to put down. Read our Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess review. See at Best Buy Advertisement Returnal Returnal is not a game for everyone--it's extremely difficult and its roguelite structure can feel overwhelming at first--but those who keep playing will be rewarded with one of Housemarque's best games. Essentially a AAA-level third-person shooter with arcade sensibilities, it retains the essence of Housemarque's older, smaller games like Nex Machina and Resogun, with dodging through enemy projectiles and memorizing their attacks playing a huge role. But on top of this is a surprisingly deep story focused on an astronaut named Selene and a planet that she just can't seem to escape, even in death. Shortcuts and a little bit of luck can make the run between the game's six different biomes much less daunting, and little tidbits of exposition and world-building make even your failed runs feel worthwhile. Title: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Finally Has A Release Date, And Netflix Has More Anime On The Way Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-edgerunners-2-finally-has-a-release-date-and-netflix-has-more-anime-on-the-way/ Anime has become a key pillar of entertainment for several streaming services, and this is one genre where Netflix has made a concerted effort to lock in a few exclusive shows. The anime jewel in its crown is easily Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the wildly popular prequel and spin-off to CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077. While the game had its fans following its big turnaround after a disastrous launch, Edgerunners is considered to be a key driving force behind the resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077 several years ago. A second season was a given, and during a stacked block of reveals at the Anime NYC convention, Netflix showed off a new teaser for the show and an official October release date. Alongside that news, we also got a new look at the upcoming second season of the anime-inspired Blue Eye Samurai, a preview of the adorable Lego One Piece show, a teaser for Bass X Machina, and more. In case you missed it, we've rounded up all the reveals for you to check out below. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyeHKMfswHk Out on October 20, the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer showed off more of Night City's seedy underbelly and the new cast of characters that viewers will follow. Full of blood, neon, and cyber-psychosis, the new season follows washed-up legend Weak, the revenge-seeking nomad D, chrome-obsessed Talia, and young cinephile Roman across a 10-episode story focused on family, obsession, and legacy. Bass X Machina https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWbZBIrEfqI A wild and weird Western spin on the story of Bass Reeves--a real-life person who escaped slavery and later became the first Black deputy US Marshal--the new series imagines the legend as a cyborg looking for revenge. Set in a steampunk world, the series is being produced by the anime studios Mappa and Madhouse, and it features Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta, Transformers One) as Bass. It'll be hitting Netflix on November 3. Sakamoto Days: Season 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld4PMbghy78 What if the soft-spoken clerk behind the counter of your local convenience store was secretly the world's greatest assassin? You'd get Sakamoto Days, a hit anime series that earned rave reviews following its first season. The new teaser was light on animation, but it did feature new characters for the second season--Amane, Etsuko Satoda, and Yotsumura--who'll feature prominently in it. The second season of Sakamoto Days launches in January 2027. Fool Night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we-eaYBtUDE Unveiled earlier this year, Fool Night is an adaptation of Kasumi Yasuda's manga of the same name. The animation is by Sunrise (Mobile Suit Gundam) and Shaft (Puella Magi Madoka Magica), and the show is set in a dystopian future where Earth has been plunged into eternal night. As oxygen ran out and plants began to die, scientists started transforming humans into hybrid plant creatures using a technique called transfloration. The series follows a boy named Toshiro Kamiya, who undergoes a procedure to cover his mother's medical expenses, but the operation causes his life to fall apart. It'll debut on Netflix on November 26. Blue Eye Samurai: Season 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oCx6HcYz9k The first season of Blue Eye Samurai was a sleeper hit for Netflix, blending slick animation with hard-hitting storytelling and even harder-hitting action scenes. Season Two shifts locations from 17th-century Japan to London, as Mizu continues her vengeance-fueled journey. It'll arrive January 2027 on Netflix.  Lego One Piece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z8oBbmkgXo Based on Netflix's live-action One Piece TV series--which is in turn adapted from the One Piece manga by Eiichiro Oda--Lego One Piece features the voices of the cast as they sail the Grand Line in Lego form. It looks adorable, and with Usopp spinning the tallest of tales, Lego feels like the perfect medium to bring his outlandish stories to life. This one is out soon on September 29. The One Piece The One Piece There's no trailer yet for The One Piece, but we did get some new key art for this show. A reimagining of Monkey D. Luffy's early adventures in East Blue from Attack on Titan's Studio Wit, it'll premiere in 2027.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/ Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all. With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.  When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. From A+ to AAA Gaming  This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming. With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks. The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead. The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own. A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too. Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices. Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way. Everyone, at Their Stations Needlers never looked so sharp. Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.” Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play. Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan. From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission. Let’s Play Today In addition, members can stream the following games this week: Halo: Campaign Evolved (New release on Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass July 28) Mistfall Hunter (New release on Steam July 29) Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (New release on Ubisoft Connect July 30) Sudden Attack Zero Point (New release on Steam, July 30) The Ranchers (New release on Steam, available July 30) Corsair Cove (New release on Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass July 31) Funnel Runners (Steam) Pathogenic (Steam) What are you planning to play this weekend? Title: Code Vein II Mask of Idris DLC launches September 9 Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2026 14:00:56 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/20/code-vein-ii-mask-of-idris-dlc-launches-september-9/ Earlier this year, Code Vein II invited players into a post-apocalyptic action RPG where they fight alongside unique partners, wield powerful blood-based abilities, and battle fierce enemies to prevent the world’s destruction. Today, we’re excited to announce that the Mask of Idris DLC launches on September 9, 2026. This all new DLC introduces a history-altering story separate from the main campaign, taking players on a new adventure alongside two new partners. As you progress through the DLC, you’ll unlock new weapons and Formae to help overcome formidable new bosses. Launching alongside the DLC is a free update for all players, introducing additional features to further enhance the gameplay experience. However, today, we’ll take a closer look at everything coming in the Mask of Idris DLC. (SPOILER WARNING: The trailer content includes story details from the base game) Play Video Please note that certain play conditions must be met before you can access the Mask of Idris DLC. For full details on the required conditions, please visit our official Bandai Namco channels. Once you’ve met the requirements, you’ll embark on a new adventure that transcends time and space to uncover a history-altering story in The Forsaken World. The Forsaken World Throughout Code Vein II, history has been altered countless times, leaving behind scattered pockets of alternate space worlds known as Temporal Rifts. These spaces preserve residual traces of branching paths of history created by the past intervention of the great hero Idris. Though they were meant to disappear over time, the Temporal Rift continued to expand, eventually becoming what is now known as The Forsaken World. At its center lies the Spindle of Pathos, a colossal, swirling force that draws in emotions from across time and space. As its influence continues to grow, it now threatens to consume the world the protagonists are fighting to protect. It is here that your journey begins as you battle to save the world from its impending fate. As you venture into the Forsaken World, you’ll be joined by a new partner, Liv Voda, and Lou Magmell, a familiar face with a different story to tell. Together, you’ll confront powerful new threats and uncover the mysteries hidden in this fractured realm. Liv Voda – The alluring guardian of time and space Liv Voda is the original guardian of The Temporal Rift, and half-sister of Valentin Voda. She had abandoned her duties out of boredom and been away from the frontier region for many years. She has a combative personality, and her hair and eyes glow brightly when her emotions run high. Liv’s preferred combat style is aggressive attacks with a focus on melee combat. Her weapon of choice is the Halberd. She gracefully dances across the battlefield, relentlessly assailing enemies with continuous attacks from her Formae Chariot Rave and nimble evasive steps. Her Linkage Trait makes enemies more susceptible to staggering from weapon attacks. This trait, combined with her support Formae Mad Blood Dance (which boosts both her own and the protagonist’s attack power, with its effect extending upon each successful hit), forms a powerful synergy. Overwhelm your foes with coordinated teamwork. Lou MagMell – A lonely girl in the Forsaken World Lou Magmell is not the same Revenant girl the protagonist encounters in the main story but a different individual who entered the Forsaken World after experiencing a separate tragedy. The truth behind her past will gradually unfold as the story progresses. Despite her own hardships, she joins the protagonists in their fight to halt the expansion of the Forsaken World. New weapons and formae To prepare players for the challenges ahead, the Mask of Idris DLC introduces a collection of new weapons that broaden your combat options. Whether you prefer swift strikes or devastating power, these additions provide new ways to customize your fighting style. Grave Knocker is a martial arts Formae compatible with all weapon types, allowing players to unleash a powerful aerial kick that creates shockwaves to stagger surrounding enemies. Upon landing, a second shockwave expands, making it an effective ability for controlling groups of enemies. Sword of Karma: Idris summons a great sword imbued with the flames of Pathos, allowing players to unleash a series of powerful strikes and extended combo options. With its long reach and devastating final blow that sends flames of Pathos forward, this Formae provides both offensive power and flexibility in combat. Prepare to journey into the Forsaken World with the Mask of Idris DLC, featuring a new story, powerful allies, new weapons, and challenging battles. Whether you’re a returning player or discovering Code Vein II for the first time, experience this new adventure when the DLC launches on September 9.

Title: Inside the brutal puzzles of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival  Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 12:15:07 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/19/inside-the-brutal-puzzles-of-clive-barkers-hellraiser-revival/ It’s dark. The walls are oppressively grey, spikey and close. And there’s a disturbing noise of chattering teeth that sounds like it’s coming from, well, everywhere. Then, I see him. Flesh warped, eyeless sockets sunken, mouth wide, teeth full. The Chatterer – the source of the ever-present and unnerving noise. Player character, Aidan, runs away, but seconds later Chatterer remerges in front of him in a crackle of electricity. Aidan tries another path of escape and Chatterer again fizzles into view. Down a seething red, fleshy corridor and the chattering figure zaps in front of him again. But there is a way to escape, you just need to know how. Play Video This is just part of my introduction to Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, a first-person survival horror hitting PlayStation 5 on October 8. And while this is a fairly straightforward puzzle element that I’m being shown, there are far more elaborate and equally disturbing ones that Assistant Game Director Vid Rajin is eager to walk me – or more accurately in this case, run – through. A labyrinth of terror Although Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival features a number of firearms and weapons, that’s not the purpose of the demonstration I’m immersed in. The focus is very much on how the game aims to test your nerve through its reality warping environments and the mysteries they hold, all encased with the gruesome tension the series is famous for. In fact, Hellraiser is a franchise which doesn’t necessarily lend itself to combative action, given its psychological and deeply disturbing investigation of the lines between pleasure and pain. To translate that into a game was one of the challenges faced by the teams at Mad Head Games and Saber Interactive, aiming to give the puzzles an appropriate edge. “We use the Genesis Configuration – a puzzle box – at the centre of things,” explains Vid. “Mysterious puzzle boxes are literally key to everything in Clive Barker’s universe, so it writes itself in terms of helping to craft puzzles and how to manipulate the world. We have a background in adventure games and hidden object puzzle titles, so we took our experience from those, but we want to make sure we have a narrative purpose for puzzles wherever we can.” The earlier example of our encounter with Chatterer is a clear sign of that bleeding of narrative and puzzles, as is another environmental teaser where Aidan is wandering through his house near the start of the game. At first it appears normal – but twisted little elements, such as photos on a wall being crooked or distorted soon become clear. And trying to escape the various rooms only leads to them repeating. The only way to solve this tormenting loop? By turning back instead of trying to move forward, which changes the entire setting. “The labyrinth Aidan is trapped in is intertwined with the real world,” says Vid. “So in the case of the looping rooms, the environment is almost trying to tell Aidan something, to get him to change his perspective, and make the player figure out another approach to what they might have been doing.” Controlling the Genesis Configuration Learning lessons is a fundamental part of any horror story, which makes Vid’s point fit smartly into the game, aping one of the mainstay themes of the genre no matter the medium – you learn or you die. Be it reversing your course to escape the looping room or outmanoeuvring Chatterer by discovering which corridor he doesn’t teleport in front of you in, understanding the importance of finding unconventional routes is crucial. Hints are offered by the labyrinth itself, although for some of the more traditional puzzles, like opening a safe via a sliding picture lock, clues can be something far less intimidating, such as discovering a diagram on a desk. But a chunk of progressing through Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is through using the Genesis Configuration itself. While it can channel power for offensive abilities like setting enemies on fire, Vid reveals how it’s essential for overcoming many of the present environmental puzzles.  Some puzzles have clear binary solutions. One example is using the Genesis Configuration to rotate a giant wheel, which in turn would realign the narrow walkways Aidan found himself on within a spike-laden room to plot a safe route through. Another demoed its transformative properties: we stood in a courtyard hub, with three main gates. Each one could only be opened by retrieving a statue’s missing item – such as an appropriately macabre tongue or hand – and then changing the Genesis Configuration into the correct shape to act as a key. But there are others which have multiple ways of solving them. What those are, the studio remain tight-lipped, keen for players to discover themselves.  And while many revolve around traversal, the labyrinth itself, and all the horror that await within, there are a few incidental and familiar parts for survival horror fans. “We have classic lock pick mechanism puzzles as well [such as]safe combinations which reward you with useful items, like crafting resources, ammo, some nice upgrades, or even like a new weapon,” says Vid. “And you have to manage your inventory in a similar way to the Resident Evil games.” Inspiration outside of hell Between these types of traditional survival horror puzzles and more surreal, M.C. Escher inspired interiors that help fashion the environment, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is shaping up to be something fans will appreciate. The development team – fans themselves – also had the advantage of Clive Barker himself advising from its initial conception and Doug Bradley reprising his role as Pinhead from many of the movies, to help keep them on track. “They were a huge help, especially in giving us small details,” says Vid. “The pressure to make something to honor the franchise is always there, but it’s been alleviated by the positive response from the fans so far.” Prepare for oblivion With a campaign that Vid suggests could take over 12 hours to complete, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival aims to deliver a sharp experience that captures the visceral and psychological intensity of its source material. And if you own a PS5 Pro, you can expect higher graphic settings and PSSR sSupport to hone in on the horror. Can your chattering nerves handle a piercing face to face with Pinhead and his cenobites? Find out on October 8 when Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival launches on PS5, available for pre-order now.

All game modes within The City are completely co-ed, with full access to The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up, Starting Five, plus the all-new Crew HQ and Casual Corner. One thing to note: Female MyPlayers are a City-only experience. New environments to hoop in The Rec, The Theater, Ante-Up, and Seasonal Parks all feature brand-new environments. Based on community feedback, The Rec now rotates randomly between five unique environments available right at launch: High School Gym Outdoor Court Private Gym Crowded Arena Season-Themed Venue Builder customization & new Badge Tokens The biggest game-changer is the introduction of Badge Tokens, which you’ll use to equip Badges. In the Builder, you can see in real time how your selected size and position affect which Badges you qualify for and how many tokens each Badge will cost. The Builder provides real-time feedback, showing you the exact tokens required as you adjust your attributes.  There are 53 Badges in 2K27, including 19 brand-new Badges built to create a more balanced playing field. Badge synergy Unleash your full potential with the all-new Synergy system, the next evolution of Badges and boosts.  Synergy slots provide a +1 boost, or a massive +2 boost to your Badges. They are broken into two parts: Fuse and Reaction. Fuse Badges receive a permanent +1 or +2 boost for the entire game, pushing that Badge beyond its current tier to maximize its potential, even up to Legend tier.  Reaction Badges are directly paired with Fuse Badges. The effect is triggered automatically once you’ve activated your Fuse Badge a set number of times during a game. Once triggered, the Reaction Badge receives the same +1 or +2 boost for the rest of the game. Exchange without limits For the first time in MyTeam, you can exchange any of your Player Cards (Free Agent cards excluded), even cards earned from Season level rewards, for elite rewards. Every single card you earn, pull, or unlock is a meaningful asset toward building an unstoppable lineup. Even when you complete a Collection for a Collection Reward, cards will now become unauctionable rather than locked in, meaning they can still be used in The Exchange after being used to get a Collection Reward. MyNBA Legacy: Build a 100-Year Dynasty The headline addition to MyNBA in NBA 2K27 is MyNBA Legacy, a single-player, player-locked mode that bridges the gap between running the front office and dominating on the hardwood. Choose any player in the Modern Era, earn experience to upgrade their Attributes and Badges, and create a legend. Whether you’re committed to writing the next century of NBA history, or looking for a casual sandbox experience, MyNBA Legacy has something for everyone. MyCareer Eras For the first time in MyCareer, you can choose to step outside the modern NBA and build your career in one of five historical eras. We took the foundation of MyNBA Eras and brought it directly into MyCareer, allowing you to insert your MyPlayer into the exact moments that defined basketball history. Compete across five iconic eras: The Magic vs. Bird Era The Jordan Era The Kobe Era The LeBron Era The Steph Era Co-op MyCareer We’re bringing a massive community request to life: for the first time ever, you can invite a friend with NBA 2K27 to play co-op multiplayer directly in your MyCareer. This is made possible by your Running Mate, Trace Miller—a custom teammate you meet in the G League who stays with you all the way through your NBA career. When Trace is introduced, you choose one of nine build templates that feature shades of NBA superstars and earn points through gameplay to upgrade his attributes, Badges, and playstyle.  Your co-op partner takes control of Trace exactly as you’ve built him, and you both earn your own separate, full amounts of VC and Season XP.  Trace is the ultimate Running Mate, helping you unlock your full potential on the court. Grab your Crew and hit the courts in The City early by pre-ordering NBA 2K27 Deluxe Edition or Ultra Edition to receive up to 9 days of Early Access*, starting August 26. *Early access begins at 9:00am PT, August 26. Availability may vary by region and time zone.

Title: Among Shadows is a Nightreign-style dark fantasy RPG with a touch of Among Us that makes me think wistfully of Dark Souls at its most treacherous Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2026 11:42:55 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/among-shadows-is-a-nightreign-style-dark-fantasy-rpg-with-a-touch-of-among-us-that-makes-me-think-wistfully-of-dark-souls-at-its-most-treacherous Among Shadows is the kind of videogame genre arithmetic that often proves less than the sum of its parts, but I'm cautiously enthused by its talk of disease, betrayal and Elden Ring: Nightreign-flavoured swordwizarding. The gist: this is a fantasy action-RPG with an Among Us-style social deduction element. You are a member of the Order of the Secret Fire, sent into a supernaturally blighted region to track down sources of corruption, while looting gear and levelling yourself up. Read more
Title: “We’re going to take things slow": South of Midnight devs now own the rights to all their games again, after quitting Xbox, and are working on a new game Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2026 10:25:45 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/were-going-to-take-things-slow-south-of-midnight-devs-now-own-the-rights-to-all-their-games-again-after-quitting-xbox-and-are-working-on-a-new-game We Happy Few and South of Midnight developers Compulsion Games have announced that they are fully broken up with Microsoft and Xbox, after completing a management buyout. They now once again own the rights to all their own original intellectual properties. Amongst other things, this means that you can buy South of Midnight – summarised by Brendy (RPS in peace) as "a beautiful folkloric tale" and a "plain and unambitious" action-adventure – while still taking part in the BDS boycott against Microsoft's Israeli military connections. When you buy the Steam version of South of Midnight, all your money (after Valve's revenue cut) will go to Compulsion. Read more

With speculation rampant as to what exactly the hackers known as Cyberleek may have access to, now is not the time to be downloading any files claiming to be GTA 6. Read more
Title: Mortal Shell 2's first balance patch makes its in-game economy a lot more lenient and nerfs some enemies and bosses for a smoother ride Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2026 21:53:50 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/mortal-shell-2s-first-balance-patch-makes-its-in-game-economy-a-lot-more-lenient-and-nerfs-some-enemies-and-bosses-for-a-smoother-ride Heavy is the burden of being a game developer, as even as a game launches, there is always still work to be done. Mortal Shell 2 is out today, and while it generally seems to be doing quite well for itself, a game of its ilk, i.e. a Soulslike, doesn't necessarily get everything right the first go around (or I guess second first in this case). So, to smooth out some edges, developer Cold Symmetry have already released the game's first balance patch. Read more
