Title: New Borderlands 4 Character Short Introduces Rafa's Violent Past Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2025 13:31:00 -0700 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-borderlands-4-character-short-introduces-rafas-violent-past/1100-6533568/?ftag=CAD-01-10abi2f Gearbox Software has released a new character short for the upcoming looter shooter, Borderlands 4. Called “Yolt”, this video introduces Rafa the Exo-Soldier moments before he cuts ties with the morally bankrupt Tediore Corporation. It also displays a few of his abilities, including the Arc-knives--powerful energy-based swords deployed by Rafa’s exosuit.Early on in the short, Rafa can be seen proudly wearing a new exoskeleton during a live Tediore Corp. showcase. Things take a turn for the worse when his commanding officer reveals the finer points of the suit--like how it can operate even if the wearer dies--as well as the company’s desire to cut expenses. The ensuing chaos is comically violent; Rafa goes from standing at attention to fighting to blasting enemies to bits in a manner of seconds. What’s interesting about Rafa’s short is its inherently darker tone. While the events are still campy/in line with past Borderlands games, there is a seriousness to the themes being introduced. It’s possible that Borderlands 4 will not only have plenty of jokes for fans come September, but an engaging character-driven story as well.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Title: Get 30 Classic D&D PC Games For $10 Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2025 13:17:00 -0700 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/get-30-classic-dd-pc-games-for-10/1100-6533569/?ftag=CAD-01-10abi2f These days, Baldur's Gate 3 is probably the first thing that comes to mind when people think "Dungeons & Dragons video games," but there's a long history of D&D video games stretching back to before Baldur's Gate 3--or even its predecessors like Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape Torment, and Neverwinter Nights--ever existed. Throughout the '80s and early '90s, there was a long list of titles like Eye of the Beholder, Pool of Radiance, and Champions of Krynn that adapted older D&D editions into video game form--and many are still considered important classics that are worth revisiting today. If you've ever been curious about these beloved PC games, you'll want to check out Humble's Dungeons & Dragons Classic Collection game bundle, which includes up to 30 old-school D&D PC RPGs, strategy, and action games, for just $10. But you'll want to act fast, as the bundle will only be available until August 7. See at Humble Like other Humble bundles, a portion of all Dungeons & Dragons Classic Collection revenue is donated directly to charity. For this deal, Humble is donating proceeds to Covenant House, which provides food, shelter, and ongoing services to homeless and trafficked young people. If you want to donate more, you can increase your pledge beyond $10 and change the revenue split between Humble, the game publishers, and Covenant House before checkout.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Title: Gigantamax Butterfree counters, weakness, and battle tips in Pokémon Go Date: 2025-07-30T13:16:52-04:00 Link: https://www.polygon.com/pokemon-go-guide/617646/gigantamax-butterfree-counters-weakness-tips-max-battle-raid Gigantamax Butterfree is the latest addition to the list of Gigantamax Pokémon introduced to Pokémon Go, and is available in Max Battles as part of the Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battle Day on Aug. 3 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time. This big bug will only have niche uses (as is the way for bug-type Pokémon), but if you like to collect Gigantamax Pokémon, you’ll want one for your collection regardless. Below, we list out some general Gigantamax Max Battle tips and counters for Gigantamax Butterfree in Pokémon Go. Gigantamax Butterfree weakness Gigantamax Butterfree has a ton of weaknesses: flying-, rock-, fire-, electric, and ice-type moves. On top of that, Butterfree actually has doubled weakness against rock-type moves, though we won’t be able to make much use of that yet. You’ll want to avoid using ground-, fighting-, bug-, and grass-type moves, as Butterfree has a resistance against those types. Gigantamax Butterfree best counters With the above in mind, there’s a good number of counters to bring to Butterfree. We recommend the following to focus on offensive moves: Gigantamax Cinderace with Tackle (G-Max Fireball) Gigantamax Toxtricity with Spark (G-Max Stun Shock) Gigantamax Charizard with Dragon Breath (G-Max Wildfire) Dynamax Darmanitan with Fire Fang (Max Flare) You can also bring the Dynamax versions of the above Pokémon (though, yes, they will deal less damage than their Gigantamax counterparts). If you’re running D-Max versions of the above, Cinderace and Charizard will both want Fire Spin instead as their fast moves. Since D-Max moves pull typing from the fast move, it’ll want this over the listed attacks, which we only recommend on the G-Max versions because they’re faster and thus builds up the gauge more. As a reminder, there is a set of Timed Research that will give you an encounter with a Dynamax Darumaka, Darumaka Candy, and some particles ahead of the weekend. It’s actually a pretty decent option if you don’t have Toxtricity, Cinderace, or Charizard, so don’t sleep on this Timed Research. If you want to be an ally to your team, you can bring the following Pokémon with Max Guard and/or Max Spirit to help out defensively: Crowned Shield Zamazenta with Metal Claw Crowned Sword Zacian with Metal Claw Dynamax Corviknight with Sand Attack Dynamax Blissey with Pound These moves will allow you to build up shields quickly, and their bulk will let them last long against Butterfree. Even if you don’t have these powered up, consider just bringing the strongest Dynamax Pokémon you have. If you have a maxed out Dynamax Gengar and your Dynamax Charizard isn’t leveled (and you don’t have the means to power it up), just bring your Gengar. General Gigantamax Butterfree tips If you’ve been struggling in Max Battles, here’s some general tips to survive — and make sure you’re an asset to your team. Gigantamax battles involve way more strategy than the usual rampant tapping that you do in raids, so make sure to know what you’re doing before jumping in. Make sure you have enough players. High-efficiency groups with maxed out investments can take down the Butterfree with fewer people, but practically, if you don’t have hundreds of spare candy and even more Stardust laying around, this isn’t going to be an option for you. Make sure you have as many people as possible to ensure that you get your musically inclined cruise ship-shell creature. Don’t sleep on Max Spirit and Max Guard. Teams work best when there’s a variety of moves, not just maxed-out attacks. Each player should bring Pokémon with the defensive and healing moves unlocked as well. Max Guard will focus single-target damage towards you and reduce the damage taken and Max Spirit will heal the whole party, so these moves are really important to make sure your damage-dealers can keep dishing. Remember to swap to super effective moves when it’s time to Dynamax. For Dynamax Pokémon, their max moves will be whatever type their fast move is. This means if you have a Rillaboom with Razor Leaf, it will know Max Overgrowth. A Gengar with Shadow Claw will know Max Phantasm. Take advantage of this and make sure to swap to a Pokémon that will deal super effective damage to your target before Dynamaxing, if you can. Level up a few ‘mons, but you don’t have to go too hard. Depending on your group size, you absolutely do not need to max out all your Dynamax Pokémon to level 40-50. While this will make it easier on the rest of your group, if this isn’t an investment you can make, you don’t have to stress about it. Power things up as high as you can afford to, but don’t fret if you don’t have a maxed out Pokémon. That all being said, make sure to come as prepared as you can be. This is a team effort and there’s a reason why groups of 30-40 people can still fail. Do not just bring your unleveled Dynamax Wooloo expecting a free ride to a powerful Pokémon. After all, if everyone does that, then you certainly won’t clear the battle. Again, you don’t have to completely max out your Pokémon, but it will be better for everyone involved if you bring something helpful to the table. Keep your eye out for a shiny Butterfree! If you clear the raid, there is a chance that the Butterfree you catch will be shiny — which also means it’ll be a guaranteed catch. Use a Pinap Berry to score extra candy if you get lucky enough to find a sparkly Butterfree.
Title: What is the briefcase code in Grounded 2? Date: 2025-07-30T17:39:39-04:00 Link: https://www.polygon.com/guides/617852/grounded-2-briefcase-code-how-to-open If you want to open the briefcase in Grounded 2, you need the briefcase code, a two-part set of numbers that pops the lid and lets you explore inside. There’s not all that much to see, but there is one very useful item inside to help you on your way. You can also enter the briefcase code without finding it in the game, which is handy, since half of the code is at the park’s far end. Below, we list the briefcase code in Grounded 2, where to find it, and what you’ll get after opening the briefcase. Where to find the briefcase in Grounded 2 The briefcase is on one of the picnic table benches northeast of the snackbar, which you can access anytime, though it’s easier to reach with a buggy mount. We outline how to climb the table in our Grounded 2 blueberry guide, but the short version is that you need to climb the tablecloth, go under the little cloth tunnel, and then cross to the other bench via the pole bridging the gap between both sides. On the other bench, you’ll find a few cockroach nymphs, which are docile, some lawn mites, which aren’t, and the briefcase. What is the briefcase code in Grounded 2? The briefcase has two locks, one to the left of the handle and one to the right. If you want to find them yourself, the code for the left is scribbled on a torn crossword puzzle sheet at the top of the picnic table. The right-side code is on a scrap of paper on the podium front of the statue in the park’s far east, which Obsidian conveniently showed in the game’s launch trailer. The left code is: 137 The right code is: 514 Interact with each dial to turn it until it displays the correct number, and then press the button next to the dials to unlock the latch. Inside the briefcase, you’ll find a plastic mint holder with a Milk Molar, which you can use to upgrade your character’s stats in the SCA.B menu. There’s also a blob of raw science worth 500 points under some junk on the case’s left side. If you’re just getting started in Grounded 2, head over to our essential beginner tips guide for some helpful ways to stay alive longer, and check out our guides for where to find acorn shells and acorn tops, where to find weed stems, how to get lingonberries, and how to get grass seeds for the Omni-Tool’s shovel.
Title: How to beat Blightweaver Great Centipede in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Date: 2025-07-30T17:36:38-04:00 Link: https://www.polygon.com/guides/617463/wuchang-fallen-feathers-blightweaver-great-centipede-how-to-beat-boss-fight-weaknesses Blightweaver – Great Centipede is the first real difficulty spike in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. While the boss is optional, you could easily stumble into its arena through the normal course of play. On the plus side, defeating it will reward the Astral Blade, a one-handed sword and a valuable weapon for spellcasters. Our Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Great Centipede boss fight guide will walk you through how to prepare for the fight, where to find it, and also help you deal with both phases. Where to find Blightweaver Great Centipede in Wuchang You can find the Blightweaver in the Bandit Cave (Worship’s Rise) location. From the Bandit Camp Shrine, if you follow the downward path to the right, it will lead you into a large cavern arena where the Blightweaver resides. How to prepare for the Great Centipede Don’t get discouraged if this battle feels overwhelming. Again, it’s optional, and all too possible to wander into the arena underprepared. Blightweaver’s attacks deal physical damage and can inflict both Corruption and Burn. The beast itself is weak to Lightning attacks and the Paralysis status ailment, but its most significant weakness is blunt damage from axes. Level Up & Upgrade If you find yourself taking too much damage in your first few tries against the Great Centipede, don’t be afraid to level up and upgrade your Manna Vase for more healing. Explore some of the other areas nearby and come back stronger! Exploit Blightweaver’s weaknesses As stated above, the Blightweaver Great Centipede has a few weaknesses that are easily exploitable. To give you the very best chances of beating this beast, you should make use of Jade Pendants as well as the Impetus and Tempering mechanics. In Shu Sanctum, you’ll find an NPC who sells the Fiend-Felling Pendant, which increases damage dealt to large enemies. Another powerful pendant is the Dracolich Pendant, which you can stumble across find on your way to the Blightweaver fight. If you’ve unlocked the Impetus skill tree and tempering, you would be wise to infuse your weapon with Lightning or Poise Break effects. Alternatively, if you preordered Wuchang and have access to the Vermillion War Club axe, its “Misty Breath” ability is also powerful in this fight, for how quickly it builds Poise Break. How to beat Blightweaver Great Centipede (phase one) The Blightweaver boss fight is straightforward once you see all of its attacks at least once. The key to the boss’s first phase is patience — and avoiding lingering at its flanks or tail. Both the boss’s sides and tail are the primary source of its Corruption gas, so being greedy in your offense will quickly spell defeat. The environment is also extremely useful in this fight. Scattered in the cavern are electrified stone pillars. You can use these pillars as covers between the Blightweaver’s melee attacks, and if it smashes into the pillar, the beast will be stunned long enough you to land a full combo for free. Blightweaver Great Centipede’s first phase consists of the first half of its health bar. Its attacks are a series of combos and pincer swipes that are all well telegraphed and straightforward to dodge. Until it drops below 50% HP, try to only attack near its head and sides after it finishes an attack. Patience is key. Dodge, attack once or twice, and then be ready to rinse and repeat. How to beat Blightweaver Great Centipede (phase two) Once you get the boss’s health to under 50%, it gains a few new attacks, but the method stays the same. Be patient. The Blightweaver’s aggression can be scary, but keeping a level head and making use of all tools in your repertoire can make short work of the Great Centipede. The magic circle laser attack can catch you off guard if you’re not paying attention, as while you’re focusing on dodging the lasers, Blightweaver can be queuing up another attack. As long as you keep the boss in view while dodging, you should be fine, and also don’t be afraid to take a laser hit — better that than a full-on pincer combo. The other attack the centipede uses is its burrowing attack, which forces you to play defensively as it is not open to attacks until after its fourth burrow strike. If you’re able to time your dodges perfectly and stay close to it after the fourth dodge, you can land heavy damage on its exposed head. Be aware. Keep chipping away, and then the Great Centipede will eventually be no more.
Title: How many layers are in Donkey Kong Bananza? Date: 2025-07-30T17:28:57-04:00 Link: https://www.polygon.com/donkey-kong-bananza-guides-dk/614013/how-many-layers-list-all How many layers are in Donkey Kong Bananza is a slightly more complex subject than you might initially think. Every layer is structured differently, some with multiple sublayers, and all with varying numbers of Banandium Gems to grab. The way Bananza is structured means that you’re free to tackle it all at your own pace, though, and can (usually) hop back to an earlier layer to grab collectibles you might’ve missed the first time. Below, we list how many layers are in Donkey Kong Bananza, including how many additional sublayers each main level has. How many layers are in Donkey Kong Bananza? Donkey Kong Bananza has 17 layers in total. However, they vary in size and complexity, and how long it takes to get through them depends on your playstyle. The first layer, for example, is just Ingot Isle, a tutorial with just a few regions to explore and even fewer Banandium Gems to gather (until later in the game, at least). Others, like The Divide, are stopping points where you hoover up a few gems before deciding your next, bigger destination. Some have Ancient Ruins to explore, each with secrets of their own, or change after you complete certain objectives and let you reach previously inaccessible areas. All layers list in Donkey Kong Bananza These are all the layers in Donkey Kong Bananza: Ingot Isle: Sublayer 1-10 Lagoon Layer: Sublayer 100-102 Hilltop Layer: Sublayer 200 Canyon Layer: Sublayer 300-302 The Divide: Sublayer 400 Freezer Layer: Sublayer 500-503 Forest Layer: Sublayer 600-602 The Junction: Sublayer 700 Resort Layer: Sublayer 800 Tempest Layer: Sublayer 900-902 Landfill Layer: Sublayer 1000-1001 Racing Layer: Sublayer 1100 Radiance Layer: Sublayer 1200-1204 Groove Layer: Sublayer 1300 Feast Layer: Sublayer 1400-1401 Forbidden Layer: Sublayer 1500 Planet Core: Sublayer 1600-1609 The Planet Core is the final area, but it’s not structured like all the layers before it and is more what you’d expect from a Final Area. You’ll reach new layers by progressing through Bananza‘s main story objectives, though you’re free to do that at your own pace, whether you want to grab every Banandium Gem before moving on or would rather speed through and unlock every layer first. You’re mostly free to return to previous layers to grab bananas, fossils, outfits, and anything else you might’ve missed the first time — though there are story beats where you can’t leave until you finish a certain part. Each sublayer after Lagoon Layer has a spot where you can summon an eel to take you back to any layer you’ve previously visited.
Title: All Planet Core Layer Banandium Gem locations in Donkey Kong Bananza Date: 2025-07-30T17:17:22-04:00 Link: https://www.polygon.com/donkey-kong-bananza-guides-dk/616592/planet-core-layer-banandium-gem-golden-banana-locations-list-map-all In Donkey Kong Bananza, the Planet Core Layer is the 16th layer where you’ll soon reach the conclusion of the story. Even though it’s close to the end, there are still a lot of Banandium Gems for you to find and collect. The Planet Core is full of your usual enemies, gold, and a bunch of thorns. You’ll need to navigate your way through the dangerous terrain and utilize all of your Bananza forms to grab all of these bananas. [Ed. note: As this is the finale of Donkey Kong Bananza, everything beyond this point can potentially spoil the game for you. If you’re not on the Planet Core Layer, and are for some reason looking at the bananas on this layer, consider this your final warning!] Below, we list where to find all of the Banandium Gems in the Planet Core Layer in Donkey Kong Bananza. Sublayer 1600 Banandium Gems There are three Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1600 in the Planet Core Layer. #1: Victory over Void Kong! This bunch of bananas is directly in front of you once you drop down to this layer. #2: A View of the King From where you land on the sublayer, turn directly around to see this banana on top of a platform in the distance. You can use Ostrich Bananza to glide over here and then Snake Bananza to climb the tower. #3: In the Belly of K. Rool Punch through the K. Rool statue’s stomach to find this banana inside. Yuck? Sublayer 1601 Banandium Gems There are four Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1601 in the Planet Core Layer. #4: Floating over Fractone Fort Climb to the top of the cliff behind the Warp Gong at Fractone Fort. If you look towards the center of the fort, you’ll find a floating shifty platform. Throw a chunk at it and fly over as an ostrich. Quickly swap to a snake and charge jump to the barrel that’ll shoot you to a platform with a banana on it. #5: Shifty Smash: Inhale and Destroy This banana is earned after you complete the Shifty Smash challenge on the cliff above the Warp Gong. To complete it, turn into an elephant and suck up all of the lava. Then, swap to Kong Bananza and smash through the concrete and shifty wall. #6: Planet Core Smashin’ Stats Speak to the Smashintone next to the Warp Gong after you’ve destroyed 70,000 cubic meters of gold to get a banana. #7: Planet Core Chip Exchange Exchange Banandium Chips and gold with a concierge at a getaway or at the Chip Exchange on Sublayer 1606 (pictured above). Sublayer 1602 Banandium Gems There is one Banandium Gem in Sublayer 1602 in the Planet Core Layer. #8: Survived the Gravel Gauntlet You’ll get this banana from naturally going through the path, after that horrendous dirt road. Sublayer 1603 Banandium Gems There are two Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1603 in the Planet Core Layer. #9: Klaptrapped behind the Goo After you land on Sublayer 1603, you’ll see a golden banana in the distance. Step onto the first pink goo pathway and allow the hungry, hungry crocodile build a blue goo pathway for you. Quickly cross the blue and pink goo paths to grab the banana while the second hungry, hungry crocodile creates a blue goo wall for you to climb to the next floor. #10: The Switcheroo Chase This banana is found naturally through following the path, at the top of the pink/blue goo path. Sublayer 1604 Banandium Gems There are two Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1604 in the Planet Core Layer. #11: Korner of the Krevasse After you set off the explosives on the spinning circular platform, look below you to find a banana on a floating platform. #12: Cracking Open the Way This is another story progression banana. You’ll see it after you complete the portion with the switches and gliding. Sublayer 1605 Banandium Gems There are two Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1605 in the Planet Core Layer. #13: The Kremling Krew’s Last Stand This is a post-game banana, meaning you won’t be able to grab it until you roll credits and come back to this area. Return to the arena on Sublayer 1605 to face off against multiple waves of Kremlings. Once you land, a Kremling version of a wallopoid will immediately slam down in front of you, so be ready to dodge. You do just need to punch away at these enemies, but many of them have spiked-concrete exteriors. Pluck gold off of nearby veins and toss it at these enemies to deal with them swiftly. #14: Stomped Stompenclomper! Again! You get this banana as part of the story, after you defeat the Stompenclomper. Sublayer 1606 Banandium Gems There are three Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1606 in the Planet Core Layer. #15: Planet Core Quiz Master After you ride the minecart to Sublayer 1606, look under the minecart station to spot Quiztone on the platform below. Drop down and get all of their questions correct to get a banana. If you’re having a hard time answering their questions, here are all of the correct answers: Seals Powerful Quiztone #16: Shifty Smash: Skyward Smashing Before you drop down into the hole on Sublayer 1606, climb onto the stone on the right side and look over the edge. You’ll spot a shifty smash challenge on a platform below. Before starting, we recommend transforming into a snake and grabbing a chunk. To complete the challenge, charge jump through the shifty platforms with a chunk in hand all the way to the top. #17: Fractone Cradle Climb Before you drop into the hole, look up and across from you to see a banana at the peak. Climb onto the stone on your right and walk along the edge until you reach the large metal structure. Transform into a snake, charge jump, and then double jump at the peak to reach the top. To make things a little easier, you can also upgrade your charge jump in the skills menu. Sublayer 1607 Banandium Gems There are two Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1607 in the Planet Core Layer. #18: Turf Surf Pit Stop As you’re turf surfing across the thorns, you’ll spot a pillar of thorns on the left side of the track. Hit an enemy into the pillar to remove the thorns and climb up to find a banana. #19: Turf Surf Finish Line You get this banana at the end of the Turf Surfing segment on this sublayer. Sublayer 1608 Banandium Gems There are no Banandium Gems on Sublayer 1608 in the Planet Core Layer. Sublayer 1609 Banandium Gems There are four Banandium Gems in Sublayer 1609 in the Planet Core Layer. #20: Cranky’s Planet Core Rant Cranky Kong is to the left on a heightened platform before you take the mine cart to the core. Listen to him to get this banana. #21: Rocked King K. Rool! You get this bunch of orange bananas after you take out K. Rool. #22: Halfway through the Harmoneel To get Banandium Gems #22 and #23, you’ll need to have completed all five Elder Rehearsal challenges. After you’ve done that, make your way to the the center of the Planet Core on Sublayer 1609, but before you start, you should do the following: Unlock the gold Kong Bananza skill, Golden Punch, and the gold Elephant Bananza skill, Golden Vacuum Max out the snake’s Charge Jump skill Max out the ostrich’s Flutter and Glide skills Max out the health upgrades Max out the Bananza form duration Equip Pauline’s Prime Feast Apparel outfit from the Feast Layer Purchase red balloons, apple juice, and melon juice That is a lot of suggestions, but this is the toughest challenge in Donkey Kong Bananza for a reason. Additionally, if you lose all of your hearts (and apple juice), you’ll need to start over from the very beginning, so you’ll want all of these buffs. For this first banana, you’ll need to complete three challenges. The first challenge requires you to bob and weave through thorns in the air. Transform into an ostrich and hit the melon again to refill your Bananergy gauge. This section is somewhat timed as you need to make it through this entire portion before your ostrich transformation runs out. One general tip for this portion is that your Egg Bombs can blow up the thorns below you, but they move very slow. To counteract that, drop your eggs at the very top of the hole. Slowly glide around and then quickly drop through the hole that your Egg Bomb created. For this next section, you’ll need to make your way through a familiar challenge course, but this time, it’s been upgraded with spiky concrete. However, you can easily smash your way through everything with your gold Kong Bananza skill, Golden Punch. Charge up a punch and watch the waves leave a path of destruction. Alternatively, the gold Elephant Bananza skill, Golden Vacuum, will work on some surfaces, but not others. Use either ability to create pits that the spiky balls will fall into and punch your way through the concrete walls. For the last section, we recommend clearing an area underneath the spiky ball’s landing zone and then throwing gold chunks with in your elephant form. Alternatively, you can climb to the top and quickly vacuum a pit in the area before any spiky balls hit you. For the last section before the first banana, you’ll need to hit the blue balloon to make the platform descend to the bottom, but enemies will come out of their caves and try to attack you. The simplest solution for this portion is to just spam your roll (L button) and punch (Y button) through the blue balloon to attack and parry every enemy that comes your way. Once you reach the bottom, quickly leave through the door and claim your banana. #23: End of the Harmoneel Before you drop down the hole, we recommend to transform into your elephant form and punch the melon again to refill your Bananergy gauge. Note that if you die in the second half of the challenge, you’ll have to start from the beginning — even before the ostrich and thorns part, so be very careful. There are a few ways to go through this next section, but we recommend using the elephant form and sucking up the first glow stone platform to have 10 stored glow stone chunks. Continuously have a glow stone chunk out and swing at the shade ore stompoids and shade ore barriers to safely make it to the end. Then, use the glow stone to hit the coil and open the door at the end, which leads to the next section. Before you attempt to turf surf across the railway, use your Golden Vacuum skill to suck up the concrete behind you and refill your Bananergy gauge. Now, transform into Kong form and grab a chunk off of the concrete Fractone. Rather than turf surfing across the rails, we’re going to skip this whole section with our snake and ostrich forms. With the concrete chunk in hand, transform into a snake and charge jump into the air. At the peak jump height, transform into an ostrich and glide the rest of the way. Make sure you glide over the middle rail because you will have to turf surf when you get close. A good indicator to when you need to start turf surfing is when you’re close to the three gold balls near the barrel. Press ZL when you’re close and launch yourself from the barrel into the next area. For this very last section, you’ll need to use your Kong Bananza form to break through the concrete barriers and weave your way in between the flaming barrels until you break through a golden wall. Behind the wall, you’ll find another melon and a path made out of water. If you’re low on health, we recommend transforming into any Bananza form and regenerating your health to full due to Pauline’s Prime Feast Apparel outfit. Once you’re ready, transform into a zebra and charge dash over the water. Make sure to jump over the pits and watch out for the falling flaming barrels. If you do get hit, roll and jump forward to prevent yourself from falling to the bottom. Once you make it to the mine cart, you’ve successfully completed the challenge! Ride the mine cart to the end to claim your banana. While yes, this is the last area in the game, a new spot has re-opened for you to find bananas in: Ingot Isle, the starting area! Onward to more bananas! Monkeying around in Donkey Kong Bananza? We have guides to help you plow through this collectathon, including where to find Banandium Gems on Groove Layer, Feast Layer, and Forbidden Layer. We also have guides on how to unlock music discs and explainers on the various Ancient Bananza Powers and the skill tree.

Title: Shantae’s new costumes revealed in Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2025 15:00:19 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2025/07/30/shantaes-new-costumes-revealed-in-shantae-advance-risky-revolution/ Hi, everyone. I’m Matt Bozon, director of the Shantae series. Today I’d like to fill you in on some exciting news about Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, and share more details about the project! If you’re familiar with the Shantae video game series, you might have heard that the original Shantae game had an unfinished sequel that never saw the light of day. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is that long-lost sequel. The original production ended in 2004, leaving the game only half finished – but the story didn’t end there. A long-lost genie adventure Twenty years later the original Shantae Advance team was reunited thanks to WayForward and Limited Run Games. We opened our archives, dove into old files, and set out to complete the project in its original code base using the tools of a bygone era. It was a labor of love, preservation, and improvisation. Now, the project is finally complete after over two decades, and will be “Ret-2-Go” on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. So, is Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution an old game or a new game? Is it game #2 in the series? Or game #6? Great questions. First and foremost, this is a brand-new, never-before-released Shantae game that was completed in 2025. But canonically, it’s the 2nd game in the series. The story takes place directly after the events of Shantae 1, but before Risky’s Revenge. The overall play style builds on lessons learned from all previous Shantae efforts. Combat and platforming are quick and snappy, writing and humor are on point, and quality-of-life elements are in line with the modern series. As for features, the game contains three stand-alone experiences; First, there’s the modern version built for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which contains high-resolution portrait artwork, UI, and cinematics. Second is Classic Mode, which preserves all of 2004-era pixel artwork in its original resolution, and can be played as a stand alone game – effectively bonus content. Third is Battle Mode, which is a two-to-four player local party game in which players try to clobber each other and collect power ups, while navigating a rotating arena.  Play Video Shanae’s new costumes But wait, there’s more. All of the above is included in the Standard Edition, but we’re also offering a Deluxe Edition, which contains three exclusive costumes made especially for fans. See Shantae as you’ve never seen her before – in her Relic Hunter Costume, High Voltage Costume, and Sizzle Armor Costume. Not only do these costumes change Shantae’s in-world sprites, but they also change her high-res dialogue portraits and the properties of her magic attacks. With the Deluxe Edition, all three of these costumes are available from the get-go. Let’s dig in: The Relic Hunter Costume is inspired by Uncle Mimic’s old geezer friends, the Relic Hunters, who feature prominently in the game. For this costume we wondered what would happen if Shantae cosplayed as Uncle Mimic. She’d definitely want to make some adjustments of her own. What do you think? Wearing this adventurous getup grants a permanent power-up to Shantae’s Pike Ball Magic. The High Voltage Costume grants hyper energy to Shantae’s electrical Storm Puff magic. The modern style and holographic ponytail are as nonsensical as it gets – right down to the “1994” graphical text on the pant leg – signifying the year that Shantae was created. We thought it would be fun to give her a techwear-inspired outfit with dayglow colors. Last – and in this case, least – is the Sizzle Armor Costume. This impressive “swimsuit” of armor provides a significant boost to Shantae’s Fireball Magic. This design is inspired by 1980s anime bikini armor, with fluorescent reds, dragonslayer-esque plating, and gleaming gemstones and baubles. Shantae’s ponytail even changes into a fire-whip. So there you have it – all the details on the all-new Deluxe Edition content for Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution. Both the Standard Edition and the Deluxe Edition will be available to purchase and download on August 19 – less than a month away. After waiting 20 years to get this game into your hands, I can hardly believe it’s finally about to happen. I hope you all are as excited to play the game as we are. Thank you for supporting this series.
Title: Hell is Us: New trailer and emotional insight from the creative director Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2025 14:18:54 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2025/07/30/hell-is-us-new-trailer-and-emotional-insight-from-the-creative-director/ Play Video Rogue Factor’s mysterious and brutal action adventure, Hell is Us, is clawing its way out of our darkest dreams and onto PlayStation 5 September 4. With an atmospheric new trailer fresh from the depths, the game’s Creative and Art Director, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête took me through its secrets to reveal more about the game’s enemies, dungeons, and emotional commentary. What was the inspiration behind the Hollow Walker enemy designs and the strange blue Haze (around 1 minute in)? There’s no singular inspiration. I look more to creating themes that we want to explore. So we wanted the enemies to be a physical manifestation of human emotions, and I then started thinking about how those emotions behave. Hazes are expressions of the emotions, using Robert Plutchik’s emotion wheel as inspiration for their colours, and the Hollow Walkers are white and emotionless, acting as a sort of facsimile of a human being that is emotion’s anchor. We could have just made regular monsters that were expressions of emotion, like a rage monster, but I thought it would have been a little cliché. What if it was more cosmic horror, something unexplainable? How many types of Hollow Walkers can we expect in the game? There are five types – the Primeval, the Feral, the Protector, the Artillery and the Negator – each having three tiers, so a total of 15 variants. And then there are the Hazes, which are four emotions – grief, ecstasy, rage and terror – each with three tiers as well, which makes 12. So that gives us 27 enemies in the game. Which ones are you most fond of? So the Primeval, which is kind of the more basic and humanoid one, is the most iconic. I quite like it because it looked really cool in the early concept art. The Feral is cool too, because I’m always going to remember the motion capture sessions. They walk on these pointy, weird arms, so we hired dancers for them who literally had stilts on their hands for the mocap, which was really interesting. The Negator also has these weird ears that are actually his legs, and the way that he attacks with them is quite clever, but yeah, I think the Primeval is our little baby Hollow Walker, so that’s my favourite. Can you tell us a bit more about the Hollow Walker with multiple Hazes we see at the end of the trailer? It’s definitely one of the most memorable moments of that specific dungeon. The game isn’t really about typical bosses as such, but more about meaningful fights at key moments in the story. When multiple Hollow Walkers are connected to one Haze, we call it a Herder, but what we have at the end of the trailer is a Fervent, where a Hollow Walker – a Protector in this case – is attached to multiple Hazes. What you see at the end of the trailer is the end of Act One. That Act is very much about grief, so you’re going through all the stages of grief, with each Haze having a name based on those stages. The combat loop is that these Hazes split out after you kill one, a bit like enemy slimes from RPGs, and the final one goes inside the Protector, which you then have to kill. In the trailer we also see a dungeon which incorporates water wheels, while one is more like a mountain mine. Can you expand on the ideas behind these specific dungeons? Each dungeon has a theme, and they’re related to a specific emotion as well. That’s also tied to the story of why this particular place exists. What was very important for me at the beginning of the project was having dungeons which weren’t contemporary even though the game takes place in a contemporary setting. I wanted them to be these impressive, fantasy things that feel out of this world. And we wanted to have fun with the types of puzzles that we couldn’t have had in a realistic, contemporary dungeon, like an abandoned factory or metro station. Some of the dungeons have a lot more puzzles than others, some are more about combat, and some have a lot of environmental changes, like the one in the trailer where you have to play with the water levels and things like that. So they’re all different and tied to lore, which you sometimes need to understand in order to solve a puzzle. One of our themes is ‘history always repeats itself’, and even though you figure out these artefacts from ages ago, you realize that it relates to what’s going on right now. There’s lots to discover and play around with. What other details would you encourage players to take a closer look at in the trailer? So at around the 1.45 mark there’s a huge pile of something which you should maybe pay attention to. See what’s there. And then imagine how many things this represents. Because you could just think it’s a rocky hill in the middle of the dungeon, but if you pay attention to what it actually is, you start to ask questions. How did this happen? How did they create this? What was the machinery around this? It could be quite horrific, but interesting. There’s symbolism everywhere. Hell is Us launches on September 4.

Title: How sound can save or doom you in I Hate This Place Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2025 16:01:04 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2025/07/29/how-sound-can-save-or-doom-you-in-i-hate-this-place/ Hi there, I’m Miki Majka, Game Producer at Rock Square Thunder. Today, I want to give you a first look at the official gameplay trailer for our upcoming game, I Hate This Place, which is coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. It’s a craft-based, isometric survival horror experience all wrapped in bold comic-style visuals and soaked in a gritty 1980s horror atmosphere. I also want to take you a little deeper into how we’re using sound as more than just atmosphere. In I Hate This Place, silence isn’t simply golden — it can mean the difference between life and death. But first, let’s take a look at the gameplay trailer: Play Video These creatures hunt by sound As you probably noticed in the video, the world of I Hate This Place is filled with a lot of nightmarish, otherworldly creatures from a rather eerie and distorted world. But what might not be so clear is that many of these hulking monstrosities can barely see. Instead, they stalk their prey (you) by sound, so all your actions and movements need to be thought out. Every footstep, every gunshot, every clang of metal can give off your location. So whether you’re creeping through overgrown woods or navigating decrepit facilities, the surface beneath your sneakers matters. A slow, crouched shuffle across grass will likely be ignored. A careless stomp on broken glass, not so much. Verify your age to view this content. Verify your age to view this content. Making visual noise To take this system further and make it more clever to players, we also made sound into a visual language, where noise is color-coded. It’s a unique visual system inspired to tie in with the game’s comic book art style. For example: Green footsteps mean you’re quiet, crouched, moving slowly, minimizing riskYellow signals you’re walking at a normal pace and making moderate noiseRed means you’re running or being loud, and you’re a beacon for danger This color-coded feedback system doesn’t just apply to footsteps, though. Gunfire, thrown objects, even the howls and attacks of enemies all follow the same noise-visibility rules, helping you judge just how much noise all of your actions are creating. Sound as a weapon Just as sound can get you killed, it can also be used to your advantage and become your most useful weapon. With a bit of strategy and planning, you can lure monsters away from key areas or into your cleverly laid traps. Tossing an empty can down a hallway or into the underbrush might attract a nearby creature, giving you the opening you need to escape. With a bit more planning and thought, you can try to herd enemies together into the perfect spot to then toss that grenade or molatov cocktail you happened to scrounge. Stealth is your friend Combat in I Hate This Place is about choosing your battles wisely. Many of the creatures you’ll encounter are brutal, and even more so when night falls. Going in guns blazing is doable, but maybe not always the right move. Ammo is scarce, noise is dangerous, and enemies are unforgiving. Verify your age to view this content. Verify your age to view this content. So the next time you feel tempted to sprint across an open field or you think firing off a shotgun blast in a tight corridor is a good idea, think twice. In I Hate This Place, it is not just what you do, it is how loud you are when you do it. Instead, you can rely on stealth, movement, and manipulation. Using the terrain, sound cues, and enemy behavior against them becomes second nature as you learn to navigate the environment and survive it. Verify your age to view this content. Title: Subnautica 2 delay actually proves Krafton aren't mismanaging their games, says exec Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2025 17:41:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/subnautica-2-delay-actually-proves-krafton-arent-mismanaging-their-games-says-exec If the messy situation regarding Subnautica 2 and those ousted studio heads has led you to wonder if publishers Krafton might be mismanaging the development of their games, the company's chief financial officer reckons you're diving in the wrong sea. According to Dongkeun Bae, Subnautica 2's delay from 2025 release to 2026 is proof that Krafton are doing a good job with that, actually. The exec said as much via translator during a recent earnings call that, among many other things, featured the publishers' own version of the events surrounding Striking Distance CEO Steve Papoutsis being parachuted in at Unknown Worlds to replace senior executives Charlie Cleveland, Max McGuire, and Ted Gill last month. Whether Subnautica 2 was genuinely ready to release in early access this year is a key part of the whole fracas. Krafton say no, the three fired leads say yes, and now the latter are suing. The complicating factor is that there was a big bonus for the studio's workers tied to the game releasing this year. Read more

Title: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 review: Starting, and finishing, at the bottom Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2025 15:27:31 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5050-review There was a time when I’d be chuffed to bits to be clicking a new entry-level graphics card into its PCIe home. Think back to the GTX 1050 Ti or the Radeon RX 570 – these weren’t just great GPUs because they were accessible, but because you could practically feel the scrappiness bouncing off their circuitry. Like barking little chihuahuas, throwing down against a pack of mastiffs. You can see they’re no match for the bigger boys. But you kind of love them for not caring. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 is no such card. It is the most affordable of the RTX 50 series, undercutting the RTX 5060 by about £40 / $50, and it does come with a full set of DLSS 4 tools including Multi Frame Generation (MFG) support. Its performance, sadly, leans more slow than scrappy, and it isn’t even really that cheap. Prices start around £220 / $250 and this overclocked Zotac model I’ve tested is £248 / $270, so it’s still going to be by far the priciest component in any budget PC build. Read more
