Title: CFB 27 Ditches Controversial Microtransactions After Massive Blowback Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 14:12:33 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cfb-27-ditches-controversial-microtransactions-after-massive-blowback/ EA Sports has announced that it has removed the CFB 27 microtransaction system that people hated from the get-go. In a statement, EA said, "We will remove all paid progression options from Road to Glory and Online dynasty." For anyone just catching up, CFB 27 launched with a microtransaction system that allowed players to pay real money to instantly improve their coach or athlete in the Online Dynasty and Road to Glory modes. Alternatively, players could grind for this, but the effort would be substantial. CFB 27 has done away with its most controversial MTX options. It's also notable because Online Dynasty and Road to Glory were two modes that were largely untouched by microtransactions until this year. People mobilized a boycott of the pay-to-level options, and the #CFBPlayDontPay hashtag trended on social media. People on Reddit also said they would skip the game because this new in-game-purchase scheme has rubbed them the wrong way.  EA said an "unfortunate side effect" of the removal of paid progression in the two modes is that some people will be left with a College Point balance and this balance cannot be applied to Road to Glory or Online Dynasty because of the removal of the paid progression systems. Unspent College Points can be spent in Ultimate Team or other elements of the game, however. EA communicated the change to players on the evening of July 10, with the removal of the paid progression system being implemented on the morning of July 11. EA encouraged people to spend the points while they could, but there was not much time to do so. "Your feedback on Road to Glory and Dynasty is that we've missed the mark with the introduction of paid progression options. This was added independent of deeper mode progression with the aim to give players more choice, but what you've said is that they're not adding the value we intended," EA said. Also in the statement, EA said it will attempt to provide "greater transparency and communication" with the live-service plans for next year's game, CFB 28. "We love this game. We love this community. We love college football," EA said. While the paid progression microtransactions are now gone from CFB 27, the game still has microtransactions for the popular Ultimate Team mode. EA sells points in bundles that range from $5 to $150. EA has offered paid progression systems before, as multiple Battlefield games have offered plays "Shortcut" bundles that instantly unlock all weapons, gadgets, and vehicle upgrades without having to grind to unlock them. EA is in the process of selling itself to a group of investors led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. The $55 billion deal is structured as a leverage buyout (LBO), and it's the largest LBO in history for any market category. The deal comes with billions in debt, and many believe EA will make massive cuts to service the debt.
Title: The New PlayStation Black Ops Ports Feel Like The Bare Minimum Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 14:05:32 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-new-playstation-black-ops-ports-feel-like-the-bare-minimum/ The first two Call of Duty: Black Ops games have launched on PS5 and PS4, but they're not exactly the remasters that fans were expecting. Both games feature a high price considering their age--$40 each--while their respective DLC packs are being sold as optional extras, an odd move considering how most remasters include that content to sweeten the deal. To make things worse, it looks like the technical presentation isn't much to write home about either, as the PlayStation ports feature barely any noticeable improvements at all. According to Digital Foundry, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 have been updated to run at 1080p on PS5 and PS4, and that's it. No option for a 4K resolution on PS5 or the opportunity to push the framerate to 120Hz, no improved shadows or lighting, and no quality-of-life updates like you'd find in modern Call of Duty games at all. In comparison, the original Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 games get the resolution bump for free on Xbox Series X|S through the console's backwards compatibility program, while PC gamers have been creating custom mods for years now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUdEf79y7jw As mentioned above, each remaster is being sold for $40, and their map packs cost $30 each. That's $70 per game, but it is worth mentioning that Activision is offering a discount to PlayStation Plus subscribers, dropping the price to $20 per game and $10 per map pack. Still, paying $60 per complete edition of a game is expensive, especially when they aren't that much of an improvement compared to the original titles. "For a native PS5 title and a somewhat high-profile port, this is a deeply odd state of affairs. Even the game's obvious visual blemishes are preserved: shadow quality was necessarily poor back in the day, but why preserve that problem in the present day when so much more graphics horsepower is available?" Digital Foundry wrote. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was recently revealed and will be out later this year. Unlike the 2024 and 2025 games, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Game Pass at launch, and Activision is busy reminding players in ads for the game. Modern Warfare 4 will launch for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 on October 23.
Title: Everything New In Palworld 1.0 – New Pals, Mechanics, Tools, And More Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 13:49:55 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/everything-new-in-palworld-1-0/ Palworld has left early access with its 1.0 release that adds new areas, new pals, world improvements, new tools, and much more. Here, we detail everything new in the full release of Palworld, so you can see it all at a glance. For those that bought Palworld in its early access period, there's no additional cost to access the full release. https://youtu.be/1fpGg9wNM9A If you've not yet jumped on the hype train, developer Pocketpair announced that there will be no price increase between early access and the full release. Environment and New Areas Sunreach is a new series of islands. Sunreach Above Palpagos a new series of islands have appeared that are being held in the sky by Paldium--the game's element that you might recognize as being used in the crafting of Pal Spheres. Sunreach has new Pals, new tower bosses, and new ores. The World Tree holds many of Palworld's secrets. The World Tree While you're fighting over the ownership of the towers, you might be wondering why the fight exists in the first place. The World Tree is vital to Palworld's story, and you can finally visit it and take on the challenges it presents. Ancient Ruins Ancient Ruins are present across all of Palpagos. You can earn rewards, including schematics, for completing their minigames and exploration challenges. Watchtowers There are multiple watchtowers scattered around the map. Using one uncovers the surrounding map area--think Assassin's Creed--and also gives a new fast travel point. Small Islands There are seven small islands with three biomes--volcano, desert, and ruins. Each island has unique Pals, so they're worth exploring. New Settlements Small settlements have been added at the Bamboo Groves, Snowy Mountains, Sakurajima, and Sunreach. Each settlement has new NPCs, missions, and more. Enemy Bases New enemy bases have been added at sea, so when you're exploring a little further out, you have combat challenges to complete. Wildlife Sanctuaries were formerly called small islands. Wildlife Sanctuary Previously known as small islands, the Wildlife Sanctuaries have been reworked completely. They're now protected conservation areas intended to preserve the environment. There are three sanctuaries, and each has its own environment and unique scenery, unique Pals, rare materials, and powerful bosses. Defense drones are in operation, so you can opt for the stealthy approach or just go in all guns blazing. Rebalanced Pal Habitats The placement and spawn levels of Pals throughout Palpagos have been reworked. Pals will spawn in places that feel more suited to their typing. Increased Player Level Cap The player level cap has been increased from 65 to 80. There are new technologies per level. Minor Improvements A whole host of other minor improvements have been made to the world. Lifmunk Effigies are now known as Pal Effigies, and a new animation has been added when you collect them. Treasure chests, dungeon rewards, and item drops have been rebalanced. Dungeon layouts and lighting have also been improved. If a random dungeon is open, its entrance is shown more clearly, and there are 15 more of them throughout Feybreak. You can now earn exploration experience for clearing some dungeons and enemy bases. The numbers and positions of enemy bases on land have also been adjusted. Towers you have cleared now show as a different color on the map. Predator Pals are no longer at fixed locations, but spawn at a low rate across the entire map. The Free Pal Alliance tower has been moved to Crescent Moon Shore. The Great Eagle Statue has been removed from the top of tower bosses to improve visibility on the map. Junk and salvage targets are easier to find. Bounty target sizes now match regular NPCs. The description text for respawn points has been changed to suit the environment. Renamed Forgotten Island to Island of Chilling Winds and Windswept Hills to Plateau of Beginnings. Sealed Realms have been adjusted visually, so that their look now changes according to the strength of the boss inside. Two new variations have been added. An auto-run feature has been added, so you only need to press one button to automatically run. Wild Red Berry plants are now easier to spot, and there are more at the Sea Breeze Archipelago, Marsh Island, Eastern Wild Island, and Isle of Silence. Missions and Story Main Missions Rework The story of Palworld has changed significantly. The journey you undertake while explording Palpagos, fighting tower bosses, and heading to the World Tree now feels more authentic. Goals that once felt scattered have been organized so it feels like your adventure has more purpose and makes sense. You can now learn more about Palworld's story. New Sub-Missions, NPCs, and Journals Continuous, story-driven sub-missions have been added alongside new NPCs and Journals that teach more about Palworld and Palpagos. Some missions can now display multiple display markets at once, and reward NPC missions screens will always show the correct rewards now. Having said that, main and sub-mission progress has been reset, so everyone starts on a level playing field. Pals New Pals There are 72 new Pals in Palword, made up of 47 completely new ones and 25 variants. If you're missing some, head to Sunreach and the World Tree to find them. There are 72 new Pals to discover. Awakening This new mechanic allows you to strengthen your Pals. In the World Tree, gather Radiant Gems and use them on Pals to unveil a hidden true power. Mutation Mutation is a new mechanic where breeding has a low chance of producing a Pal stronger than it would normally be. Pals born from mutated eggs have higher stats and a unique passive skill. Alongside this, you can feed Pals cakes which will affect breeding: Mushroom Cake - Slightly increaases the likelihood that newly born Pals will have higher stats. Vegetable Cake - Produces two Pal Eggs at once. Deluxe Vegetable Cake - Increases the likelihood of mutations and makes stat growth more likely. Special Cake - Increases the chance of inheriting multiple passive skills from Pal parents. Partner Skills Partner Skills have been reworked, and new ones have been added. Some Pals can detect nearby Pal Effigies, some can increase weapon-wielding Pals' damage, and some can reduce the damage taken when that Pal is in your party. Partner Skills do not stack, so don't think you can have a complete team of Ribbuny Pals increasing your attack by 15% each--it will cap at 15%. Passive Skills There are also new passive skills with new characteristics, ideal for selective breeding. World Tree passive skills have been added that are more powerful but come at a cost. For example, Twin-Edged Holy Blade increases your attack by a huge 50%, but defense decreases. Dimensional Leap improves your movement speed by 50%, but hunger depletes faster. New Pal Motions Pals can now swim, sleep next to you, and have more varied idle animations. Pals will now feel like they have bigger personalities. Riding Control Improvements Shooting, dashing, switching weapons, and charging have all been reworked alongside the camera angle. The sense of speed is improved, and riding will feel more dynamic thanks to Pal behavior being changed while ridden. You can now cancel Pal skills while riding by jumping in any direction. Pals are now better at their jobs. Work Suitability There are now 10 levels of work suitability for Pals, and they've all been rebalanced. There will be more opportunities to find Pals better for the jobs you require them to do. Each time a Pal ranks up, one of its work suitability levels will also increase. Reaching the maximum rank will still increase all of the Pal's work suitability levels. The Applied Ranching Handbook will raise the work suitability level of ranching. Capture Bonus Requirements The number of captures required to complete a capture bonus is now five, down from 12. Condensation Adjustment The number of Pals required to reach the maximum rank has been reduced from 116 to 48. Other Adjustments If you remain idle for a while, Pals in your party will now stop and face you because they miss you (aww). Inherited active skills are now randomly selected from the three active skill slots of the parent Pals. The cost of resetting a Pal's soul enhancements has been reduced, and egg incubation time has been halved in new normal and hard difficulty worlds. The elemental damage bonus effects of Divine Heaven, Flame Emperor, Sea Emperor, Thunder Emperor, Spirit King, Ice Emperor, Earth Emperor, King of the Underworld, and Divine Dragon have been increased. Legend, Rare, Burly Body, and Diamond Body passive skills have been enhanced, while the Nocturnal passive skill has been renamed to Insomnia. When you respawn, you can now choose any fast-travel location instead of being forced to return to your base or starting location. The items that Pal Merchants and Black Marketeers carry will now closely reflect the region they appear in, and overall pricing has been adjusted to reflect Pal stats. Pals will no longer lose SAN when taking damage, and negative effects caused by hunger, fractures, and other status ailments have been reduced. Combat Player Motion Rework The dodge action has been changed to make it easier to close distance when avoiding enemy attacks, or adjust your position but maintain your aim. Attacks can be performed while dashing now, and reloading will continue without being interrupted when dodging. Controls remain responsive while dodging, allowing for greater range of movement. Combat should feel better than ever. Pal Active Skills The power, behavior, cooldowns, and usability of nearly all active skills have been reworked. Holy Burst, which previously dealt excessive damage, has had its hit count capped and power adjusted to 700. Pals in a party can now deal damage equal to or greater than the player. Skills that were difficult to use, like Dragon Meteor, have been improved. There are many new active skills too, not just for new Pals but existing ones. Fuddler now has an attack that burrows underground and bursts out from beneath enemies. Starryon has a charge attack, and Broncherry Aqua has a Water element tackle attack. You can now aim at an enemy and press your mouse wheel or click the right thumbstick to command a Pal to attack. Tower Bosses Every tower boss has a revamped tower with unique design. Some tower bosses have new motions and skills. The time limit to take these on has been reduced from 10 to 5 minutes. New Tower Boss designs. Wild Pals Wild Pals have had new behaviors added to improve combat capabilities. Dog-type Pals can bite, horse-type Pals can repeatedly charge, and fast-moving Pals can step back or reposition after attacking. Arena Legend You can take on fierce battles and attain a new Arena rank in Arena matches. Minor Adjustments Party Pals can more easily target nearby enemies, and they can move faster during combat. Armor will be less prone to breaking. Captured NPCs can use their original weapons. Muddy and Burn status effects will have their duration shortened when dodging. You can also cancel drawing your Bow with the reload button. You can change the type of arrows used by compatible weapons to enable the use of fire and poison arrows. The charge time of some active skills has been extended to make them easier to dodge, while the hit detection of swords, katanas, and beam swords has also been adjusted. Pals and NPCs will no longer target and attack enemies with a far higher level than their own. Flinch resistance, knockback resistance, and explosion resistance can be obtained through cooking. In the crime system, you can now clear your wanted status by avoiding detection for a while, but as your wanted level increases, stronger pursuers will seek you out. New Equipment and Items The Wing Pack allows you to fly without a Pal's help. Wing Pack The Wing Pack has been added, which consumes Wing Cells to allow for free flight without relying on a Pal. This means you can soar across Palpagos to your heart's content, finally. Plasma Multicutter The Plasma Multicutter can gather ore and wood, and can be used while riding, making for a far more efficient method of gathering essential materials. New Weapons 13 new weapons have been added. Mechanical Bow - Crafted using Soralite Ingots, and has improved velocity and penetration perfect for long-range shots. Combat SMG - Crafted using Soralite Ingots, and has an improved magazine with enhanced ammunition. Prototype Shotgun - Crafted using Soralite Ingots for overwhelming firepower at close range. Heavy Assault Rifle - Crafted using Soralite Ingots for versatility with powerful ammunition. Tactical Grenade Launcher - Crafted using Soralite Ingots and has improved projectile stability. Laser Sword - Beam sword crafted using Soralite Ingots that instantly cuts through targets. Beam Scatter - Close-quarters beam weapon with a wide beam. Drone Launcher - Deploys up to nine autonomous combat drones. Plasma Rifle - Chains electrical arcs between enemies. Beam Lancher - Triggers a large area explosion, but is susceptible to overheating. Primitive Sword - An early game close-quarters melee weapon. Metal Bat - Mid-game melee weapon. Enhanced Lily's Spear - An enhanced version of the existing weapon intended for use in the later game. To make the most of your new finds, craft an Extra Weapon Holster to equip up to six weapons. New Armor The Ancient Series helm, armor, and shield is now available. You can also take on the appearance of various bosses with new headgear. New Accessories 44 new accessories have been added, including the Air Walker which expands your freedom of movement, and the Command Baton that strengthens Pals in your party. Disposable Implants You can use these at the operating table. They are consumed on use, and grant more powerful passive skills. Soralite and Paloxite These new ores can only be mined in Sunreach and the World Tree respectively. You'll find them essential for new crafting and building purposes. Ancient Civilization Relics These can be converted into items and used for crafting and enhancement, but can only be found in the World Tree. Nutrient This consumable item will negate hunger decrease for a limited time when used on yourself or a Pal. Minor Adjustments Two new higher-tier Pal Spheres have been added. You can craft the Training Manual from the Ancient Pal Manuscript. The display and effects of food, implants, passive effects, and other systems have been adjusted. Bases and Building You can build on the coast now! New Building Parts There are new building parts available to spruce up your base. Why not add some Faux Greenery to create a homely, lush environment. The Aquatic Construction Kit allows you to build at sea or along the shoreline. There are also new variations added to the Wooden, Stone, Metal, Glass, Japanese-Style, and Clean furniture sets. Alongside this, ancient civilization base structures are now available. Work Pal Improvements Pals will now behave themselves when returning to work, hauling, or storing things at your base. Pals can collect nearby dropped items of the same type from a wider area at once. There are new storage interactions with chests, guild chests, medicine cabinets, and other containers that makes organizing more seamless. Improved Crafting UI Category filters and a search function make the crafting UI even more intuitive. With so many new items added, this is a vital inclusion. New Utility Buildings There are new structures to support crafting, including the Ancient Material Synthesizer which can produce various items, and the High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor that can extract crude oil even without an oil field. Minor Adjustments When within the base range, you can fast travel directly from the map. No more trekking to the nearest fast-travel point, or having to interact with the Palbox in your base. The variety of visiting merchants has been widely increased. There are now 18 different specialized NPC merchants. The Repair Kit that you previously needed in order to repair structures no longer exists. Instead, Pals with the Handiwork suitability can repair without needing items. The Clinic and Ancient Clinic have been added to the base. These facilities reduce SAN depletion and suppress illness among base Pals. Alongside these, the High-Quality Monitoring Stand and Ancient Monitoring Stand function in the same way as a standard Monitoring Stand but reduce SAN depletion for base Pals. You can now set fixed assignments for sleeping Pals, too. You can change the color of your lighting structures, and when shopping at your base, any gold stored in a chest will be taken into account. The Surgery Table can access items stored in chests, too. Chests now have an option to automatically deposit matching items without needing to open the chest, and the quick storage feature has an exclusion list so that any items you want to keep in your hand won't automatically get sorted into chests. You can also now paint your storage structures, rename chests, and more easily see the chest filter settings. Alongside a host of smaller UI improvements, including alerts, log messages, error messages, and distances between structures, you'll now find it easier to complete tasks since Pals will prioritize finishing partially-complete tasks. The overall ore distribution has been increased, and the amount of Pure Quartz available in snowy regions has been increased, too. Higher-tier pickaxes and axes will help to gather more resources faster. Raids and Base Defense There's a wider variety of base Raids. Raid System Rework The raid system has been overhauled into a wave-based system. Enemies will come in waves, and you'll receive rewards for defeating all waves. Base defense structures and the placement of work Pals are important now. The types of enemies that raid will now vary depending on the environment. The Free Pal Alliance will attack in Crescent Moon Shore, while the Eternal Pyre Faction will raid in Mount Obsidian. Defense structures will operate without consuming ammo, and there are countermeasures for situations where raiding enemies get stuck. The level of raiding enemies scales according to the level of work Pals assigned to the base. If a Gold Coin Assembly Line is present, a special raid event will happen. The Negotiator A negotiator may visit your base. They have the power to cancel raids if you pay them gold coins. You can choose whether to fight or resolve the situation with money. Multiplayer Joining up with friends is now easier. Voice Chat In-game voice chat now exists. It's only available when enabled in the world settings of a dedicated server. Alongside voice chat, the in-game chat is easier to use, with improved system messages and up to 200 lines of chat history. Improved Guild Features Multiple roles have been added to guilds, and permissions can be assigned to each role. Notification settings for members logging in and out and a guild marker feature have been added. Improved Servers The multiplayer joining experience is better than ever, with server password saving and restoration as well as IP address input. To reduce the risk of corruption, improvements have been made to the save process. Discord Integration You can link your Discord account to invite people you're friends with on Discord to play together. This is only available on Steam and Mac. Combat is more balanced. Balance Overhaul The experience table has been adjusted so that lower-level Pals can gain experience more easily. The calculation formula for Pal capture rates has been changed, making Pals easier to catch. The amount of gold coins you can find in treasure chests has been increased by around two-to-four times. The material requirements for crafting recipes, weapons, ammo, armor, schematics, and saddles have been adjusted to match game progression more closely. Instead of acquiring accessories physically, you can now craft them from schematics. These can be found in treasure chests, Ancient Ruins, large-scale oil rigs, and more. Shop stock, prices, and selling prices have been adjusted. Various rewards and exploration experience have been changed. The danger level of expedition destinations that unlock after clearing each tower boss has been changed to the highest, and the rewards for doing so have been improved. UI Improvements Finally, you can search for Pals. Improved Search There are search functions in the Pal Box and crafting menus, as well as category sorting. You can filter the Paldeck to show Pals whose capture bonuses have not yet been completed, or find Pals with specific elements. Improved Status Display Pal status details now display vonus values provided by Souls and Awakening. HP bonuses can now be seen, too. You can see an icon alongside damage numbers to indicate when a status effect has been inflicted. Icons indicating Burn, Poison, and other status ailments will show on the HP bar. Partner Skill descriptions have also been improved to make effect values easier to understand. Changes in Partner Skill effects by rank are reflected in their descriptions. Map Improvements The map controls better, and has a Guild Marker function to share with guild members. You can hover over a base, and a mark is now displayed on bases that are being raided. There are new marks on boss icons and Great Eagle Statues that are located within caves or below cliffs. Character Creation There are eight new hairstyles, five new face types, and 13 new hair accessories. The default facial model has been updated--we look so much better now. Minor Adjustments Changed the title screen to a key visual newly created for version 1.0. The inventory can now be opened with the I key. The loading screen has been completely renewed and now displays Tips.  New, improved UI for whenever the player gets a reward. Added support for vertical FOV settings to improve QoL when playing on ultrawide monitors. Added a conversation text skip function. When switching weapons, a weapon list is now displayed. On controllers, this can be shown by holding the Y button. You can now check capture bonus status on the HP gauge without readying a Sphere. This can be done by holding the “Use” button in the inventory.  Changed “Respawn” to “Emergency Escape.” Regardless of world settings, items will no longer be dropped.  Tutorial messages are now displayed according to the input device.  Improved clarity of hold input timing when activating Partner Skills.  Improved guidance for insufficient heat/cold resistance levels.  Added an error message for when fast travel is not available.  Improved messaging for elemental treasure chests.  Improved messaging when fishing without bait.  Added support for UI scrolling using the right stick.  Adjusted sort order for inventory and item lists.  Notifications will now be sent when Pals return from expeditions.  Added an expedition exclusion setting button.  The appearance of Pal Dimensional Storage now changes when set to private.  Fixed a display issue when changing graphics preset settings.  Fixed an issue where the virtual keyboard would cover input fields on ROG Ally.  Fixed an issue where dialogs were duplicated during touch input.  Added face icons for captured human characters.  In the build menu, structures requiring electricity now display an icon.  In the build menu, changed the classification of the “Summoning Altar” from “Other” to “Pal.”  When swapping a Pal’s Active Skills, learned skills are now displayed in element order.  Some items, such as “Training Manual” and “Technical Manual,” can now be used in bulk.  Renamed some items to better clarify their acquisition methods and usage.  Extended Decal Gun duration from 10 seconds to 2 minutes, and changed it so decals are no longer displayed beyond a certain distance.  When using Quick Stack to move items from your inventory to a chest, items will now be placed in an empty slot if all existing stacks of the same item are already at their maximum stack size.  Graphics The game looks better overall. Visual Brush-Up The overall graphics have been vastly improved. Water materials, coastline visuals, lighting, and environmental rendering have been revised to enhance the atmosphere. Title: Outer Worlds 2 Director Reacts To Mass Layoffs At Xbox And Dispels “Misinformation” Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 13:22:39 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/outer-worlds-2-director-reacts-to-mass-layoffs-at-xbox-and-dispels-misinformation/ The Outer Worlds 2 game director and 20-year Obsidian Entertainment veteran Brandon Adler has reacted to Microsoft's recent mass layoffs at Xbox and other notable changes, which included the reported cancellation of Avowed 2. Adler, who is the current game director on an unannounced project at Obsidian, said it was an "extremely difficult week at Obsidian" after the layoffs were announced on July 6. "Not only have I had to say goodbye to some amazing game developers, but I've had to say goodbye to some of my best friends. I truly feel for every one of them. Know that if you are looking to hire one of these former Obsidian devs, you are hiring some of the best people around--both professionally and personally," he said. Something that made recent days more challenging, Adler said, was how "a bunch of cold take artists" commented on "what Obsidian is what it isn't," he said. Specifically, Adler said he takes issue with people commenting on how Obsidian "isn't who they used to be" or that the company's DNA has changed."Most of the time they are not just wrong, but spreading an enormous amount of misinformation," he said. "In most circumstances, the people in lead or director roles are the same people that worked on games like The Outer Worlds, Pillars of Eternity, and New Vegas. Like, literally the same people. The through line from KotOR2 to our current games is pretty clear." Obsidian is "of course not" the same as it was 20 years ago, Adler admitted, and that's because in life, "nothing stays the same." However, Adler maintains that "the DNA at Obsidian is the same was it always was." The same studio DNA that led to popular and well-received games like Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout: New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2, and South Park: The Stick of Truth remains intact, he said. "I'm extremely proud of our history and I am also excited for who we have become," he said. "Just remember, when you are seeing people spouting off about Obsidian, running their mouths about who we are now vs. what we were then, you are listening to someone crow about something with zero insight into how a game is made and who contributed to our previous games." Adler started at Obsidian in January 2006 after spending four years in the United States Air Force where he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom as a senior airman. His first gig at Obsidian was a QA tester for Neverwinter Nights 2. He then became an associate producer on Alpha Protocol and later on New Vegas and The Stick of Truth. He left Obsidian in March 2012 to join MEDL Mobile, where he worked on mobile games and apps. He returned to Obsidian in June 2013 to become lead producer on Pillars of Eternity. He was the gameplay design director on Avowed and then became game director on The Outer Worlds 2 with Leonard Boyarsky. The layoffs at Obsidian reportedly went deep, with 25% of staff losing their jobs. A planned Avowed sequel was said to have been canceled, with Obsidian shifting focus instead to a new Fallout game from New Vegas director Josh Sawyer.
Title: TennoCon 2026: Every Big Warframe And Soulframe Announcement Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 13:08:55 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/tennocon-2026-every-big-warframe-and-soulframe-announcement/ The annual TennoCon event was held on the weekend, and once again, developer Digital Extremes had plenty of announcements regarding its two games, Warframe and Soulframe. The highlight was an extended look at Warframe's Tau expansion, followed by a closer look at Soulframe's new narrative questline and player-requested content like mounts. In case you missed it, you can catch up on all the reveals from TennoCon 2026 below. Warframe: Tau https://youtu.be/bRxDf7gu97g The headliner for Tennocon this year was the new look at Warframe: Tau, the next major Narrative Chapter in the game. Players will get to explore a new Star Chart, the Tau System, and uncover the mystery of the Sentient ring city of Fornax. Amidst a constant downpour of black rain and infighting between criminal factions, a ruthless crime boss known as The Hunra reigns supreme and will need to be removed from the picture. The new expansion launches later this year. New challenges require a new Warframe As you'd expect, taking down a deadly network of smugglers and enforcers is no small feat, and players can equip a new Chimera Warframe, called Brysko. A sentient Warframe that looks like it came straight out of a hard-boiled detective mystery--and voiced by Critical Role's Matthew Mercer--Brysko's arsenal includes brass knuckle attacks, explosive playing cards, and an Exalted revolver magnum known as the Corecracker. Warframe gets its first card minigame, Portau. When you're not blasting gangsters, you can kick back with a round of Portau. Billed as a "sentient" card game, Portau blends the rules of poker with its own suite of Blooms, Cores, Moons, and Suns. New enemies rise up Alongside the new Environment of Fornax that features high-end casinos, grimy shipping docks, and dilapidated slums, players can also take on the Fornax Drowners. Similar to the Sentients encountered within the Origin System, they've evolved into a deadlier form, and they'll put your Warframes to the test. Warframe is teaming up with Fortnite From one free-to-play game to another, Fortnite players can now purchase the Excalibur outfit, an in-game cosmetic. If you've purchased certain eligible items, you'll also get the cosmetic skin as a freebie. Updates aplenty in Warframe Ahead of the launch of Tau, Warframe players can look forward to several updates. Iceblade of Narin adds a new story quest, location, an ice-elemental Warframe, and a customizable Orokin vessel for their journey to the Tau galaxy. The major update will also rework several Warframes and make them more powerful than ever thanks to a range of Deluxe and Prime variants, gameplay is also being overhauled, and there'll be new Nightwave missions to jump into.  Soulframe recruits some Expedition 33 talent for its narrative. https://youtu.be/WiGRu3SQ-ZY While the fantasy-themed world of Soulframe is still in its alpha stage of development, Digital Extremes did show off more of the game and the features that'll make it feel both distinct and complementary to Warframe. Set in a world of high fantasy, the new trailer showed off the creeping blight threatening the world of Soulframe, and Digital Extremes also teased the new Warsongs missions. This questline is out later this year, and it'll provide plenty of exposition and plot beats that set up the main campaign of Soulframe. The new arc also features the talents of actors Ben Starr as the new antagonist, Tempest Bayor, and Jennifer English as the player ally, Empress of Eidvel. If both of those names sound familiar, that's because the actors previously starred in Expedition 33. Beyond Soulframe fleshing out its narrative even further, Digital Extremes will also continue to fine-tune the game with quality-of-life updates. Mounts are also coming to the game, alongside "Vegan Fishing" for some outdoor fun. TennoCon 2027 already has a date Next year's TennoCon event will be held roughly a year from now, July 16-17, 2027.

They lead the charge for six new games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. Steam Dreams Are Made of These Add to cart, not to storage. The Steam Summer Sale is here, bringing discounts across thousands of PC games as one of the year’s biggest opportunities to grow a gaming library. PC gamers are driven by one thing: the love of the game. But getting there can be complicated — setups take space, hardware takes planning and downloads take time. GeForce NOW removes the barriers and delivers instant access to games, high-performance GeForce RTX power in the cloud and the ability to play across nearly any device — all with one membership. Regular upgrades and new features continue to expand the experience, building the value of that membership over time.  Plus, GeForce NOW is always delivering new games — including epic adventures across Tyria. Guild Wars 3 is coming to GeForce NOW, bringing its next-generation massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) experience to the cloud at launch. While awaiting its arrival, the journey begins today with Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars Reforged, along with limited-time exclusive rewards. Instantly Elevate Every Device PC gaming demands more from players than ever. Bigger game files and more frequent updates can turn the urge to play into a long list of to-dos. GeForce NOW streamlines that experience. Installs, patches and updates are handled in the cloud, so games are ready to launch in just a click. Time that would’ve been spent waiting on progress bars can go back into playtime, making it easier to fit gaming into quick breaks on busy days. High-performance NVIDIA GPUs in the cloud means access to always-ready GeForce RTX performance without having to purchase new hardware. Members can tap into powerful servers that meet rising game requirements and keep pace with today’s games. And memberships continue to improve with platform upgrades — like the free Ultimate upgrade to the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture — extending their value, as well as the life of gamers’ devices, over time. All of the gaming. Laptops, phones, tablets and TVs — devices most gamers have at home and already use for school, work and everyday life — can all act as gaming screens. Streaming means not having to worry about hard drive space for installs and updates, or needing the latest devices.  Level up playing on Linux. These benefits are reinforced by continuous quality-of-life improvements like smoother sign-ins, new platforms — like Linux and Amazon Fire TV — and refinements that make it faster and easier to get into a gaming session. Together, these benefits make GeForce NOW the easiest way to enjoy PC gaming both instantly and over time, while keeping the focus on what matters most to gamers: getting into the game. The Biggest Gaming Upgrade, the Best Price of the Year Sale-ing into summer with huge savings. In Guild Wars Reforged, the “Vision of Lyssa” costume brings elegance and illusion to life and includes an account upgrade. In addition, RTX Spark supports all NVIDIA RTX technologies, including the recently announced DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, which features a second-generation transformer model for realistic image quality.  RTX Spark Ignites Korea’s Gaming Community Korea has played a major role in spearheading esports and driving the boom in PC bangs, or internet and gaming cafes. With longstanding collaborations rooted in the country, NVIDIA in October celebrated 25 years of GeForce in Korea with a free festival for gamers, highlighting the rich gaming ecosystem that has been built over decades.    On Friday, Huang headed to T1 Base Camp — a PC bang owned by T1, one of Korea’s top esports teams. There, he met with T1’s reigning League of Legends World Champion team, including six-time World Champion Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok to unveil RTX Spark.  NVIDIA and Riot Games — developer of League of Legends — are collaborating to bring the title as well as VALORANT to RTX Spark, expanding gamers’ access to high-performance gaming on slim laptops.  To mark the occasion, T1 Base Camp attendees had the chance to win RTX Spark laptops, League of Legends and T1 merch signed by Huang and Faker, as well as GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs.  Surprising PC-Bang Gamers  Later, Huang headed to Seoul’s Gangnam district, where he surprised PC-bang gamers with a first look at RTX Spark with KRAFTON and NC.  At the first stop, Optimum Zone PC, Huang and KRAFTON Chairman Byung-gyu Chang showcased PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and Subnautica 2 on RTX Spark to a captivated crowd of gamers.  Gamers then got the surprise chance to play with the unreleased PUBG Ally, a co-playable character built with NVIDIA ACE technologies on RTX Spark laptops. PUBG Ally resulted from AI research and development at KRAFTON and NVIDIA, part of an initiative to create next-generation game characters that act like teammates and enable more meaningful, immersive engagements with players. Next, Huang stopped at another PC bang, Portal PC, where he showcased NC’s CINDER CITY and AION 2 on RTX Spark, with support from Taekjin Kim, co-CEO of NC.  NC and NVIDIA began working together in the early 2000s on the Lineage franchise and have since collaborated to integrate RTX technology into many of NC’s flagship games, including Lineage 2, AION, Blade & Soul, AION 2 and CINDER CITY.  Gamers at Portal PC were given the chance to play a demo of NC’s highly anticipated open-world massively multiplayer online tactical shooter CINDER CITY on GeForce RTX-powered PCs.   CINDER CITY will support the DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution features at launch. Plus, gamers will be able to experience the title on slim RTX Spark laptops and compact desktops when the game is released later this year.  In addition to KRAFTON, NC, and Riot Games, 100+ Windows software providers and game developers are embracing RTX Spark. These partners include NetEase, Remedy Entertainment and XBOX.  Learn more about RTX Spark and its launch partners.

Title: The Blood of Dawnwalker: unique time-driven quest system and player choice detailed Date: Tue, 07 Jul 2026 16:01:28 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/07/07/the-blood-of-dawnwalker-unique-time-driven-quest-system-and-player-choice-detailed/ The world has gotten very small for you and your family, Coen. It was never a grand world to begin with, tied as you all were to your farm in the tiny village of Laslea, but with the arrival of the plague, your sister’s illness, and then the vampires, it has shrunk even further. When you wake up, it’s the day of the Blood Mass for Laslea. Tonight, the vampires, the vrakhiri, will arrive to collect the oblation of their livestock. Every adult in the village must attend and give of their blood to sustain their rulers, Brencis and his clique. It is known. It is normal. Shockingly, it’s becoming more normal every day as the hope of change or salvation withers among the people of Vale Sangora. Not everyone is cut out for this new normal. Your mother is barely able to hold herself upright under the weight of her fear. Your father, pulled in two directions by his family and his past, has become grim and hard. Your siblings are struggling to understand everything happening around them. And you, Coen, a young man in your prime, are stuck staring down a long future of being bled every fortnight, little hope for anything other than the life of cattle. Is it any wonder some say it’s the end of the world? And yet, the daily concerns of life must go on. Your mother is in no condition to attend the Blood Mass tonight and if she is not present, your family and maybe the entire village will suffer. The gates are guarded by Knyaz Brencis’s men – no one will be permitted to leave until the offering is extracted. Between dawn and sunset, the day is divided into 8 parts. You must use that time to find a solution. So, you wander the sunny dirt paths of Laslea. Somehow, in spite of the clamp of the vrakhiri around your neck, even in this tiny village, the possibilities are endless. You could decide to go directly to Anca, the local herbalist, and ask for medicine for your mother and wind up spending most of the day reading Latin, soaking up every moment you can in her presence. You could punch one of the Uriash, gigantic ram-like warriors occupying the village at Brencis’ command in an attempt to burst the boils of rage festering in your heart. You could go looking for an escaped pig or a lost neighbor, you could save the weaver by searching for a stolen tapestry commissioned by the vrakhiri, you could beat an upstart boy for insulting you, you could even uncover the start of a revolution against the vampires… but you may not be able to do it all. You see, as long as you are wandering, watching, listening, never intervening, the sun will stay high in the sky. The Blood Mass will not arrive. The day will never turn to night. To move time forward, you will have to choose. So you wander. You speak to an old woman weeping by an unearthed grave. You confront the man who lurks by the river. You ask your sister about the dark dreams that jolt you awake at night. You practice your sword skills on the animals in the woods. And, in your own time, you choose how your day unfolds. Yet it is quickly made clear to you that some choices are out of your hands. There is no combination of actions and words at Coen’s disposal that can stop the Blood Mass once the sun sets. Some events have their own tides that cannot be resisted. Everyone has their own free will and no matter how earnestly you try, you can’t control the power of grief, of fear, of revenge. The Blood Mass goes poorly. Decisions are made by you and your family that cannot be taken back, and deep in the night, you wake up in the bowels of Laslea’s silver mine with a strange new hunger. You are no longer fully human. The wrath of the vrakhiri at the defiance of Laslea has chosen you as its scion. Brencis picked you to turn into one of his own, a familiar face to destroy your friends and neighbors as one more twist of the knife. The surviving villagers, including your father, mother, and siblings, will be made a sacrifice to his coronation in 30 days. Your family has been crammed into the darkness of a cell, your existence squeezed down into the palm of Brencis’ hand. And yet. As the village burns, as the sun rises, you are given a new choice. All is not lost. The light of the sun does not burn you, sear your flesh. Not even the vrakhiri could control this. In that moment, the world opens up, the shackles fall away. For you now have all the power and ferocity of a vampire, but all the feelings and connections of a human. You have something denied to you for so long: the ability to choose. As you step out of the remains of your home, your village, the whole of Vale Sangora lays before you. There is a sword at your side. Your arm still aches from the magic runes Anca carved into your skin. The taste of copper lingers in the back of your throat. You realize that, with enough blood and rage, you could rip this valley from the vrakhiri’s claws and feast upon its riches yourself. You could join the revolution, save your family and dispose of the vrakhiri. You could wash your hands of the entire affair and pursue whatever pleasures the next moment offers you. You are a unique thing, Dawnwalker, and no one will ever write a future quite like yours. A new day is beginning; how will you spend it? The Blood of Dawnwalker rises on PlayStation 5 this September 3, 2026.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls' Steam backend no longer lists it as not being available for purchase in 132 countries. It's now only listed it as not being available for purchase in 117 countries. That's 15 whole countries removed from the list of excluded nations, which looks like it could be linked in some way to the need to have PSN account to access certain bits of the game. Read more
Title: Obsidian still have "the same DNA" that went into New Vegas and KOTOR 2, The Outer Worlds 2 director insists, following chatter around layoffs Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 12:16:11 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/obsidian-still-have-the-same-dna-that-went-into-new-vegas-and-kotor-2-the-outer-worlds-2-director-insists-following-chatter-around-layoffs Last week, Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 developers Obsidian lost around quarter of their staff to Microsoft's mass layoffs. The studio were subsequently reported to be pivoting to start work on a new Fallout game helmed by New Vegas director Josh Sawyer, with a sequel to Avowed all but canned in the process. Cue, naturally, people like me discussing what sort of game the shift towards a new Fallout all these years after New Vegas could result in, and also some voices declaring that Obsidian just aren't as good as they used to be. Outer Worlds 2 director Brandon Adler, naturally, disagrees with the latter group of loudmouths. Read more

Edwin’s been struck down by a post-TennoCon lurgy, and we were only too happy to allow him some rest, provided he file his Soulframe and Warframe: Tau stories before collapsing into a feverish heap. We even agreed to feed the Maw in his absence, albeit without reaching a similar accord on responsibility for the litter tray. Thus: new PC games this week. Here are some of them. Read more
Title: Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion gets an extra ending cutscene, made by a modder keen not to finish up on a rather awkward note Date: Mon, 13 Jul 2026 10:57:37 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/baldurs-gate-3s-astarion-gets-an-extra-ending-cutscene-made-by-a-modder-keen-not-to-finish-up-on-a-rather-awkward-note Warning: Spoilers for Baldur's Gate 3 lie ahead. Shagging Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3 might say various things about your taste in blokes, but it's understandably the way a lot of folks go. Not everyone's got the nerve to admit that they want to cast some spells with Gale's other wand. Anyway, a veteran BG3 modder's now come to the aid of those who reckon one of the white-haired fang lad's endings concludes a bit too abruptly for their liking, and without enough final hugs.
